Brewers @ Cubs: Anderson vs Lackey (Game 13)

MIL (7-6): RHP Chase Anderson (1-0, 0.60)
CHC (6-6): RHP John Lackey (1-1, 3.00)
First pitch: 7:05pmCST

Lackey pitched well enough to win on Wednesday against the Dodgers (6 IP, 1 ER, 10 K, 3 BB) but ended up with the loss thanks to the Cubs bats, which were shut out. Lackey was 0-1 with a 3.79 in three games against the Brewers last year.  Overall, they are 22-80 (.275) against him. Nieuwenhuis is 4-9 with a HR.

Anderson added to Toronto's troubles in his last start, keeping them off the board in their home park for seven innings and getting the win. He went 1-0 with a 2.35 in three games against the Cubs last year. They are 8-51 (.157) against him. Almora is 1-2 with a HR.

Anderson vs Nelson tomorrow at 7:05pmCST.

Go Cubs!

i wonder if j.jay is wondering when he's gonna get ABs...or if he's happy to get an $8m check to chill with a team that's probably a sure thing to make the playoffs. awesome luxury. i was assuming they might stash almora in AAA when they picked up jay thanks to the excessive bats and heyward playing CF in spring more than a few times.

Since Jon Jay came up through the Cardinals organization I'm sure he understands what it means to be a good teammate. I think he also understands that it's a long season and things will happen, and he'll likely get his chance at some extended play time at some point. Even at $8M, I'm happy he's on our team. He's a good hitter and a better than average defender who can play all 3 OF positions. We like flexibility... touch your toes crunch... no bending at the knees!!! Too bad J. Jay couldn't get us some outs from the mound this weekend. I think the Pirates aren't going away like we hoped they would. Makes it more interesting that they got up to play these last 3 games against us. I think they still have nightmares about that wildcard game in 2015, and I don't see them letting that go anytime soon. If Almora goes into any sort of slump while we still have LaStella or Szczur on our roster, I can see Almora being sent down, but I'd say that's unlikely.

wow hammel was extra stoked to get his ring. he was "10 year old kid getting a nintendo for xmas in the 80s" level happy.

montero is no contreras...sigh doh...that was contreras subbing for montero. contreras is no contreras...sigh

barf. cubs lose...the worst record in all of mlb...officially mathematically eliminated from the post-season...koji uehara named to the new position of club ritual suicide coach...team sale and move to las vegas imminent. worst season ever.

koji uehara named to the new position of club ritual suicide coach. --- hari-kari Can he still sing the 7th inning stretch, Take me out to the ballgame? Ah, maybe he needs (big) glasses!

Cubs dead last in NL in HR, but 3rd in OBP. 11th in runs. Hit the damn ball over the wall. Brewers with 3 HR tonight -- 1/3 of Cubs season total. Losing streaks suck. Particularly home losing streaks. Feels like you are never going to win again. Cubs have zero hot hitters. Maybe they should bring Muni back.

    Hi Arizona Phil!

Exciting to see Naz Mule in box scores a few times. What's his stuff like now after the TJS?

    Mastrobuoni can't come back, yet

Wisdom does have an option left. He can hide in Iowa if Jed DFA's someone else

Does Brennan Davis get shown the door? I know it's too early for that, but these injuries are crunching the roster of a 12-7 team playoff demands and BDavis isn't going to help anytime soon.

Someone has to go to add Peralta. And Canario isn't going to get to play everyday regardless of RHers or LHers. Neither is Tauchman. Also don't see PCA getting a chance over Peralta.

    If Jed does those moves:

4 OF: Belli, Peralta, Canny, Tauch

    2 C: Gomes and Amaya

    2 DH: Cooper and Mervis

5 INF: Busch, Nico, Dansby, Morel, Madrigal

Little short on OF depth but two injuries will do that

I have had the pleasure of watching some of the young A's pitchers lately (first Joe Boyle the last day of Minor League Spring Training in March, and more recently Luis Morales last week and Steven Echavarria yesterday at Extended Spring Training), and it reminds me of the Miami Marlins a couple of years ago. A really nice collection of young pitchers. It will be interesting to see what the A's will get for two years of ex-Cub Paul Blackburn at the Trade Deadline (there should be a robust market for Blackburn).

    Good deal

    MB needs some talent infusion!

    Childersb3: Very possible. Suriel, too.

DJL: if a pitcher is recalled to be the 27th man for a doubleheader and then is optioned back to the minors the next day, the 15-day "clock" does NOT reset. The one day call-up for the doubleheader is treated like it never happened with respect to a pitcher having to spend at least 15 days on optional assignment before he can be recalled.

Probably the only reason David Peralta is still in the organization (he is at AAA Iowa) is to be available in case anything bad were to happen to Ian Happ (which it just did). So if Happ needs to go on the IL, the Cubs can select Peralta to play LF, DFA Wisdom (and hope he and what remains of his $2.725M salary gets claimed off waivers), and recall Mervis to platoon at DH with Cooper (with Canario / Tauchman sharing RF), at least until Suzuki and Happ are back...

i'd just like to take a moment to express to the world i'm still pissed willson contreras is not a cub when the pricetag was 5/87m (17.5m/yr).

it would be nice to have a legacy-type player to stick around, especially one with his leadership and the respect he gets from his peers.  cubs fans deserved more than 1 season of contreras + morel...that was gold.

happ, right hamstring tightness, day-to-day (hopefully 0 days).

    he will be reevaluated tomorrow.

I guess I'm not looking for that type of AB

    Just a difference of opinion
