Yankees @ Cubs: Pineda vs Hendricks (Game 29)

NYY (17-9): RHP Michael Pineda (3-1, 3.15)
CHC (16-12): RHP Kyle Hendricks (2-1, 4.18)
First pitch: 1:20pmCST

Hendricks gave up 2 ER over 6 innings but ended up with a no-decision in Boston on Sunday. He was 2-1 with a 1.89 in three interleague starts last year. Only Holliday (7-15, 3 HR--yikes) and Carter (3-9, HR) have faced him.

Pineda went 5.1 of shutout ball and beat the Orioles on Saturday. He was 0-1 with a 5.00 against the NL last year. Only Zobrist (2-12), Rizzo (1-2), and Heyward (1-3) have faced him.

The Cubs last played the Yankees in 2014 and last hosted them in 2011, when our rotation featured the likes of Doug Davis and Randy Wells. (I think I just threw up in my mouth a little bit.) The Yanks were no match for Davis but won 2 of 3.

Aroldis Chapman and (remember?) Adam Warren will get their World Series rings today, and Starlin Castro will be honored for being traded.

Castro, by the way, is having a nice start to his season: .362/.402/.543. You know he wants to do some damage this weekend. He might even run out a grounder.

Two lefties, Jordan Montgomery and Brett Anderson, square off tomorrow at 6:15pmCST--thanks, Fox.

Go Cubs!

I honestly believe that Warren intentionally sucked with the Cubs. His ERA was so sky-high with the team, compared to the Yankees years, I can only make that conclusion. Its a shame he had to end up as a returned merch in that trade.

Anderson Saturday and Lester for the dreaded Sunday Night game. The two lefties are now back-to-back? But, I thought they spent all of spring training aligning the rotation to avoid this? Very short pen today. Probably no Davis, Koji or Monty, and they don't like CJ on consecutive days. It's all yours, Professor.

AZ PHIL: How were the post-game reports on Albertos after his EXST start? All good health-wise? Thanks.

holy wtf rondon. 0-2 game, top 9th, 2 out...3 run HR on his 30th pitch (wtf 30 pitches) 3-2 yanks lead.

WELL THAT SUCKED. at least contreras seems to be fine.

Saw Cubs up 2-0 with 1 out in the 9th. Shut phone down and went to meeting Opened score Gah. suck.

Phil: Great to see what Rosario is doing!

Do you think having Rosario may have influenced/impacted the front office's decision on including Hope in the trade for Busch at all?

it's so crazy we got a new "barnstorming" harlem globetrotters-type baseball product that was introduced less than 5 years ago and is wildly popular all over the nation.

a notion left long in the past, unearthed, polished for modern audiences and popular as ever.

No question right now Alfonsin Rosario is one of the Cubs Top 20 prospects (probably Top 15). Rosario is to the Cubs what Zyhir Hope is to the Dodgers.

The Savannah Bananas will be playing the Party Animals at Sloan Park in Mesa this coming Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights. The games are sold out (15,000+ each night), and berm tickets are going for well over $100.

RAISIN: In the game versus the A's at Fitch Park last Friday, Mule threw half FB and half SL (16/16), and one CH (which coincidentally was the only hard-hit ball off him -- a near HR line-drive double off the LF fence). FB was 91-94 and the SL (really more of a "slurve") was 80-82, and he got three swing & miss on each pitch (six swing & miss total out of his 20 strikes). So I think it is safe to say that right now, Mule is strictly a two-pitch pitcher (FB/SL),

Recalled it was sampled in a Nas song.  Did a little sleuthing.  It was a Nas song called "Hate Me Now" that featured Puff Daddy.  Imploring the crowd to hate somebody seems a bit overly dramatic for a keyboardist but perhaps there is some other connection to the song.

In general there has been a weird overuse of Carmina Burana's O Fortuna in sports and commercials in past decade or so.  Maybe it is a fallback choice if there isn't anything else.

Sidenote, while the O Fortuna part has become a bit pop-culture cliched; the overall piece is very interesting and rather expansive in scope. I played percussion in a production of it while in college.  There is a rather jovial movement set in a tavern.  In the score it calls for the clinking of beer steins.  Let's just say we did a lot of research to determine the best sounding beer steins.

ooof...this is just as likely as anything.  professional organists are weird humans.

Maybe it is only played when the hitter thus far in the game is "oh for two"-na at the plate?

who was AB when it was being played?  it could be something as corny as playing it for nick fortes because fortes/fortuna...fortes...marlins...fish...tuna...sigh.

while the cubs organ player isn't a frequent groaner weaponizing the organ song selection, they all dabble in it.
