Hammel lost against AZ last weekend, giving up 4 ER over 7. He did strike out 9 and walked only 1 in the 4-3 loss.
Hammel is 1-3 with a 4.68 ERA in his 8 starts against the Marlins. Cub starters are 4th in the League and 6th overall. The bullpen is currently ranked 11th and 24th, respectively.

Urena, Miami’s number two prospect, gave up 5 ER in 4.2 in a loss to PIT in his last appearance. It was his first start since being called up from AAA--he also had a couple of relief appearances--where he was kicking a 1.21 ERA in 6 starts.

Stanton (15 HR and 44 RBIs on the year) is 5-12 (.417) with a HR against Hammel. If the name Bour sounds familiar, it’s because he was a Rule 5 Draft pick from the Cubs in 2013. He’s hitting .369 with 5 HRs in 29 games this year. Former Marlin and 2009 ROY Coghlan is batting .385 against the fish.

The Cubs are 11-11 on the road so far this year, including going 3-3 on their trip out west. We’re headed to DC and Detroit next, so let’s make sure we bag the easy ones.

Go Cubs!

I don’t buy that. They had been doing that for years.

They did it with Matt Holliday. They did it with John Lackey. They did it with Mark Mulder. They did it with Jason Heyward, who had a great year for them. I’m sure there’s more but those come to mind immediately.

I attribute it more to a breakdown in what they’re doing in terms of development than a culture thing.

They won those trades and sacrificed their culture. That’s exactly their problem.

The other part that’s kind of crazy is they made two very high profile trades, one for Goldschmidt and one for Arenado, and they very clearly won those trades. They just haven’t been able to develop players the last handful of years the way they usually do.

I guess the moral there is it’s hard to stay on top of your game and be good at what you do in perpetuity.

Marmol was extended at the beginning of the year. Two years I believe.

Craig Counsell doesn’t have a timetable for Cody Bellinger who technically has two cracked ribs on his right side. CT scan showed it today.

Thought it might have been David Peralta given the open 40 man spot and how PCA has played so far.

I hope they keep Mozeliak a few more years. Marmol too!

wow, counsell coming with the early lineup.  rarity.

    PCA called up.

    welp...

    bellinger...fractured rib.

a not-very-ready PCA will probably be called up when it would be much better for him to be in AAA getting regular ABs.
