Diamondbacks @ Cubs: Greinke vs Quintana (Game 107)

AZ (61-46): RHP Zack Greinke (13-4, 2.84)
CHC (57-49): LHP José Quintana (6-9, 4.16)
First pitch: 1:20pmCST

Quintana gave up 2 ER in 6 innings and ended up with the loss in Milwaukee on Friday. Overall, the D’backs are 24-81 (.296) against him. Martinez, the former Tiger, is 9-28.

Greinke is having a nice bounce-back season after a rough 2016. He beat the Cardinals his last time out, winning his 5th straight decision. He went 4-0 with a 2.12 in July. He’s 3-4 with a 3.45 on the road this season. Overall, the Cubs are 29-113 (.257) against him. Zobrist is 8-25.

Hendricks (4-3) opens against (probably not) Strasburg (10-3) and the Nationals tomorrow at 1:20pmCST.

Go Cubs!

rain delay. anticipated rain, but no rain yet.

Since all-star break: Road: 10-1 Home: 4-3 (not including today)

RALLY!

did theo/jed keep the receipt for j.wilson? *checks candelario's stats since the trade* no, seriously.

The Cubs have released LHRP David "U-Haul" Rollins to make room for Justin Grimm on the I-Cubs roster.

TIED!

crap

Crazy monsoon here in AZ so the DTV is out... now I'm listening to Pat and Ron on Satelite radio, which at least is better than listening to the D-backs announcers on their Fox sports channel. Let's pull off this victory Cubbies! Edit: Well F me for thinking we had a chance...

I was at the game today -- the third rain delay was absolutely ridiculous and screwed over Davis & the Cubs. It was drizzling, rained moderately hard for about 30 seconds, and the umps waived the teams off the field. By the time Heyward made it to the dugout, it had stopped raining and never rained again. They should have checked the radar and gone right back out and played. Davis had fully warmed up and completed his warm-up throws. For a closer to then go sit down and wait is counter to what he does every other time he pitches. That really sucked. Nice to come back against Greinke, and quite a day for Wilson. I wonder if the first delay also messed with Q. He had begin his warm-up routine and was throwing in the outfield when the first delay came. And I agree once again -- CJ throw the damn ball over the plate. Late inning walks are killers.

steele MRI on friday.  counsell expects an IL stint.

no current plans for his rotation replacement.

I would say also in the bright side column is Busch looked pretty good overall at the plate. Alzolay…man, that hurts but most of the time he’s not giving up a homer to that guy. To me the worst was almonte hanging that pitch to Garcia. He hung another one to the next hitter too and got away with it on an 0-1.

amaya blocked like 6-8 of smyly's pitches in the dirt very cleanly...not even an exaggeration, smyly threw a ton of pitches bouncing in tonight.

neris looking like his old self was a relief (no pun), too.

In looking for bright spots the defense was outstanding tonight. The “stars” are going to need to shine quite a bit brighter than they did tonight offensively though for this to be a successful season.

Good baseball game. Hopefully Steele is pitching again in April (but I’m not counting on it).

    boo.

smyly to face the 2/3/4 hitters with a man on 2nd in extras.

this doesn't seem like a 8 million dollar managerial decision.

i 100% agree with you, but i dunno how jed wants to run things.  the default is delay.  i would choose brown.

like hellfrozeover says, could be smyly since he's technically fresh and stretched.

anyway, on a pure talent basis....brown is the best option.

Use pitchers when you believe they're good. Don't plan their clock.

I'm sorry. I'm simply anti-clock/contract management. Play guys when they show real MLB potential talent.

If Brown hadn't been hurt with the Lat Strain he would've gotten the call, and not Wick.

    Give him a chance.

    But Wesneski probably gets it
