Personally, for a site that doesn't have thousands of posts a day, I think it is unnecessary. Even if someone thinks I'm saying something that is wrong or dumb, I'd rather them tell me why in the comments versus taking the easy way out. With that said, we are adults (mostly), so it shouldn't be a bother either way.

i don't care, honestly...i'm just poking fun at an easy target then moving on. the only request i had for the site overhaul was quickly implemented (easier to ID "new" posts). it's been interesting watching the vote totals on some things, though. some are disagreements, some are out of spite, and some make so little sense i wonder how many were accidentally were voted on by quick-scrolling or lulz-trolling people.

maddon re: baez "Of course, you have to consider him [for the playoff roster], just for his glove, if anything," Maddon said of Baez. "What he's done defensively is pretty spectacular." maddon re: soler getting back into playing shape "He needs to play some," Maddon said. "You can't throw him out in a pertinent game now -- he might be OK. We'll have to wait and see." http://m.cubs.mlb.com/news/article/148536430/cubs-joe-maddon-to-shift-p…

Kyle Lohse gets the save as the Brewers beat PIT in 13 -- 7th straight win for the Brew Crew over the Pirates. Meanwhile, the Reds maul the Cards. Tough night for the top Central teams -- maybe a good thing we got rained out.

So Cards have given up 38 runs in 5 games, and have exactly 1 run against starting pitching (we'll ignore the 8 against Cubs relief). Pretty impressive streak. Yesterday, I truly shrugged and didn't care much about the loss. Now, I'm thinking how much more interesting and intense things would be if we were 1.5 games behind Pit and 5 behind STL instead of 2.5 and 7. Oh well.

Myrtle Beach Pelicans just beat (White Sox affiliate) Winston-Salem Dash to tie their Carolina League Southern Division best-of-three playoff series. The deciding game is scheduled for tomorrow (Friday) at Myrtle Beach. Brad Markey took a no-hitter and a 4-0 lead into the eighth, but lost the no-hitter on a lead-off double, and the shutout on an error by Gleyber Torres, who was promoted last week to the playoff-bound Pelicans. Torres had a home run in the first game of the series. Michael Heesch took the mound with a three-run lead in the ninth but gave up a single and two walks. Then the rains came and the game was halted for a couple of hours. When play resumed, David Berg retired the three batters he faced, two on run-scoring ground balls and the third on a swinging strike three with the tying run on third. Pelicans 4, Dash 3.

a whole lot of these new "fresh/young style" manager types hired over the past few years without a whole lot of minors managing or majors coaching experience (if any at all) are failing rather spectacularly. for the most part it seems to be the players rather than the managers failing, though...dunno...not been following that closely with all the nice distractions the 2015 cubs have been providing.

That's a good point Crunch. Tiger fans seem divided on Ausmus' managing abilities, but this season wasn't entirely his fault. Replacing Scherzer, Drew Smyly, and Rick Porcello with Shane Greene, Alfredo Simon, and Kyle Lobstein....A subpar Verlander...losing V-Mart and Miggy for long stretches... these things hardly seem to be in his control as manager.

I don’t buy that. They had been doing that for years.

They did it with Matt Holliday. They did it with John Lackey. They did it with Mark Mulder. They did it with Jason Heyward, who had a great year for them. I’m sure there’s more but those come to mind immediately.

I attribute it more to a breakdown in what they’re doing in terms of development than a culture thing.

  • TarzanJoeWallis (view)

They won those trades and sacrificed their culture. That’s exactly their problem.

The other part that’s kind of crazy is they made two very high profile trades, one for Goldschmidt and one for Arenado, and they very clearly won those trades. They just haven’t been able to develop players the last handful of years the way they usually do.

I guess the moral there is it’s hard to stay on top of your game and be good at what you do in perpetuity.

Marmol was extended at the beginning of the year. Two years I believe.

Craig Counsell doesn’t have a timetable for Cody Bellinger who technically has two cracked ribs on his right side. CT scan showed it today.

Thought it might have been David Peralta given the open 40 man spot and how PCA has played so far.

I hope they keep Mozeliak a few more years. Marmol too!

    PCA called up.

    welp...

    bellinger...fractured rib.

a not-very-ready PCA will probably be called up when it would be much better for him to be in AAA getting regular ABs.
