Candy Triple Not So Sweet for Angels

Jeimer Candelario belted a two-out game-tying bases-loaded three-run triple off the RF fence and Rafael Lopez followed with an RBI double into the RF corner to drive-in the go-ahead run, as the Cubs rallied for four runs in the bottom of the 6th en route to a 5-4 victory over the Angels in Arizona Instructional League action this morning at Fitch Park Field #3 in Mesa.

David Bote drove-in the Cubs first run of the game in the 5th with a two-out RBI double into the LF corner.

Making his first game appearance since throwing two innings for Peoria at Kane County on September 3rd, RHP Ben Wells got the start for the Cubs today and tossed two shutout innings with four strikeouts, allowing one harmless single.

RHP Jose Arias relieved Wells and hurled 2.2 IP of no-hit ball with three strikeouts, and after the Cubs took a 5-4 lead in the 6th, LHP Nathan Dorris threw three shutout innings of one-hit ball with four strikeouts to record his second three-inning save this week (and third save in five games).

Kaleb Cowart (Angels 2010 1st round draft pick - 18th overall pick) provided most of the offense for the Angels in today's game, with a two-run double, a single, and a walk, in three PA. Cowart is playing temporarily with the Angels Instructs squad while preparing for the Arizona Fall League (AFL), where he will be a member of the Scottsdale Scorpions. The AFL begins play on Tuesday.

Several Cubs executives were at the game today, including Assistant GM Randy Bush and Scouting & Player Development Director Jason McLeod.
