For The Series Win

Poor Juan Mateo is scouring up memories of Sergio Mitre from last year when he had to face Clemens and Halladay , although not in back-to-back starts. Of course Mitre went out and threw two of the best games he'll probably ever pitch. I'm all for a repeat. Cubs are only a half game behind the Nationals in the wild card race. Dick Pole: So here are the numbers against Carpenter, looks like Nevin has had all sorts of problems against him. Dusty: (Snore) Dick Pole: Oh yeah and Neifi is one of the worst hitters to ever play baseball. Dusty: (Snore) Dick Pole: Um, Dusty, wake up man. Dusty: (Waking up) Dude, here's the lineup for today, my grandma once told me that you've got to breathe, eat right and always start the gnome-like shorstop. Dick Pole: What? Dusty: All I know is that Nevin is due for a hit. Dick Pole: (under breath) All I know is that you're an idiot. Slap a first basemen's glove on Z for god's sake or something. So what's up with Barrett?

Dusty: "Blanco's in there. Michael's not quite ready yet."

Whatever that means.

Cubs just traded Neifi to the Tigers for their third-round pick.

ahaha Joel I win

Neifi traded to Tigers as reported by Pat and Ron for Chris Robinson

Woooo! Bye bye Neifi! Good riddance!

See you in Hell, Niefi. I'm now rooting against the Tigers, as no Niefi should ever win the WS.

Who will we pick on now? Macias, where are you?

Maybe Hendry will trade to get him back during the offseason. I'm having trouble imagining the team without him...

I haven't been this excited about a trade since the Nomar deal. One down and one to go.

There's some Jason Schmidt money!

Maybe Hendry can learn from his mistakes.

Too bad Rusch offers no value whatsoever. Even being LH isn't enough for him.

jumbo - the Cubs team caterers are likely to attempt to void any Rusch trade

Maybe the Reds will take Rusch, they're trying everybody.

Will the Cubs retire #13 you think???

Remember to send X-Mas cards to Placido Polanco!!!!!!!!!!!! and Dave Dombrowski

Do you think Perez will be signed in 2008 by the Cubs?

but neifi is worthless and only the cubs would want him cuz hendry hates us and blah blah blah...thank f'n god.

if dusty goes, no one will have anything to talk about anymore.

bye TCR posters...i'll miss you.

Oh forgot about Rusch, one down two to go.(Dustbag).

"bye TCR posters...i'll miss you."

We'll miss you too, Crunch.

Maybe you and your Neifi love can live on at:

Anyone else feel like it's Christmas morning with no more Neifi?

We're getting schooled by Carpenter, and I don't even care!

Neifi's gone! Neifi's gone! Neifi's gone!

neal...quit your whining.

go back to that last post you're embarrasing yourself on if you wanna cry about me some more.

This might be the best trade Hendry has made since the Lee one. Though I am assuming given the caliber of talent we got back that were paying all of Neifi's deal. Brenley said that Robinson was rated by BA as the best defensive catcher in the Tigers system. He will replace Fox as the top catching prospect in the our system.

on the way out!

Actually - I never would have minded Neifi on this team - IF - he was used sparingly off the bench.

He's a decent defensive replacement at a modest salary on most contending teams.

NOT every other day!!

Now he'll be a FULL-time replacement as an everyday player on a contending team.

HE sure ain't no Palanco!

I doubt that chifan, he's not much of a hitter and he's just the best in the tigers system and they have no catching prospects.

was any money changed hands?

seems like the only real plus of moving neifi would be to save a million or 2...take the bite outta izturis's contract.

Where was I whining? Admittedly I did do a bit of dancing...

Did you figure out Neifi used to play in Colorado yet?

neal...seriously, just shut up or drop it or keep blah blah blahing. make your own rules, make yourself 1000ab's to 10,000ab's.

and please...totally ignore the fact you wanna have a discussion about stats that i never even started yet you keep rearraging your arguement on.

i cant talk to you if you're gonna keep changing the way you make your points and just flat out MAKE STUFF UP in other places.

That sounds like whining!

Is scott crying and holding himself somewhere. His dream has come true.

I never had anything against neifi... just his overuse. thank god that's over here.

  • From Keith Law:

  • This from a Kiley McDaniel chat a couple weeks ago...

    "Comment From Wrenzie
Who has more ceiling between Yusniel Diaz or Eddy Julio Martinez?

Kiley McDaniel: Martinez. I have Eddy (20 years old) as a 65 runner with a 55 arm and 50 raw power that profiles as an everyday CF that could be above average depending on if the bat is a 45 or a 55. I have Yusniel (19) as a 60 runner with a 55 arm and 40 raw power that can be an everyday guy if he hits enough (50 or 55)."

  • "Per Jesse Sanchez at, Cubs reportedly have signed 20-year old Cuban OF Eddy Julio Martinez for $3M bonus.
Arizona Phil 7 hours 23 min ago"

  • it's day old news, and it's got nothing to do with the cubs, but ichiro signed a $2m deal with MIA (with a $2m option for 2017).

neat. 41 years old and damn close to 3000 hits.

    also, rain delays suck.

  • take that giants

  • I think that if a team objects to the 1-game wildcard playin game so much, they could just win the pennant and avoid themselves the trouble.

  • Per Jesse Sanchez at, Cubs reportedly have signed 20-year old Cuban OF Eddy Julio Martinez for $3M bonus.

  • BLOCK: Of course any advantage is an advantage. An MLB, NBA, or NHL team getting the extra game at home in a seven game series is an advantage, I just don't think it is enough of an advantage for winning a division and/or having the best record in a conference or league over the course of an 82-game season (NBA and NHL) or 162 game series (MLB).

  • TEX takes the opening game from TOR (@TOR) 5-3.

TOR lost bautista + donaldson in-game due to injuries...TEX lost beltre...dunno if any will be lingering issues leading to missed games.

  • Ride the Kid Magic! Schwarber hadn't homered in a long time before last night.

  • Greg Maddux was 8-18 in his rookie season. Kyle has the 8 wins down pat.

    Think Baby Maddux.

Prof. Harold Hill's THINK system at work.

Kyle is on the far left.

  • I support this. Hendricks has not only looked better lately but seems to start struggling after a few innings which is better than the 1st in the playoffs.

  • Just tweeted via Jesse Rogers: Hendricks starting Game 2. Wow. Just wow.

  • That was good!

  • Well said. On one hand, I thought the HBP was a bad baseball play -- down 4 runs, put a runner on for a red-hot Fowler. On the other hand, they needed to do something -- I hadn't thought about the warning/pitching inside point. Is Hurdle that smart? He does not strike me that way. By the way -- not clear which fan base you are referring to in your "first" 3rd point.

  • My unsolicited opinions on topics covered in this thread:
    1. I hate the fact that after 162 games, a team could be out after 1 game. However, I think the system is pretty close to perfect right now. 2 of 3 isn't feasible unless they shorten the regular season, and it ices the division winners for way too long. This creates excitement, and rewards the division winners.
