Numerous radio reports say that Rocky Cherry has been called up and Wade Miller has been sent to the disabled list with back spasms. I guess that's the medical term for "excessive amount of suckage". UPDATE: Here's the confirming link from cubs.com; "middle back spasms" are the culprit.

Comments

A friend who was listening told me that Stone reported on WSCR earlier that Theriot would not be in the starting lineup today.

I guess that’s the medical term for “excessive amount of suckage (syndrome)”... Yes, that is the correct diagnosis (EX-ASS)

"Wade, could I interest you in a couple of weeks of back spasms?" "Well, now that you mention it, my neck did wake up a little sore this mornin' from all those sudden jerks of the head yesterday..."

Lest me remind everyone that unfortunately, if we trade JJones - and his 27HR's from '06 - we have only Cliff Floyd and his health track record left as a power threat. Unless of course, you are counting Itz-TURD-is or Pie. We're stuck ya'll. Unless something unforseen happens. A LH hitting SS w/power?

RobG. i wasn't exclaiming at you.....i am just hoping that theriot is in the lineup - where he belongs.

Is Izturis hurt? If he is supposedly the starting SS, why is he sitting AGAIN? I am not wild about Cedeno, either.

I'm all for keeping JJ, but I'll trade-off a few homers for a steady lineup and the better defensive outfield that Pie will get us, assuming he's not a complete bust up here. But no rush and only if the deal for JJ is dollar for dollar. Anyone have any excess starters anymore? Dodgers and Phils were two teams in spring training but that seems to have gone away, although I'm sure they'd still deal Lieber to save money. Angels just got Colon/Weaver back, wonder if they'd move Saunders or Mosely but neither is a much better option than Guzman or Marmol imo...

Oh, sorry Rob. I missed that little footnote. It seems like, with a righty pitching tonight, you would want Izturis's switch bat in the lineup. And since he supposed to be SO SPECTACULAR as a fielder, that would be another reason to put him in.

E man, is Jones a power threat? At the rate he is going, the threat must be something like a barely perceptible power threat.

yeah, last time I do that... See, I usually write these up earlier in the day and I take a stab at what I think the lineup will be, which of course is usually wrong because there's always something wrong with the Cubs. I kind of wanted to get the Rocky Cherry news out, and didn't want to go through the effort of deleting the lineup and then doing all that copying and pasting so I just thought I'd share my guess with you all. Silly me.

Lineup Cubs Soriano, LF Floyd, RF Lee, 1B Ramirez, 3B Jones, CF DeRosa, 2B Blanco, C Izturis, SS Zambrano, P

hehe, how many starts does he have to make before he's available? and I think W2 is directly wired into the Internet...

Not sure, it took a few days before Vanden Hurk was available. ..what? I thought he'd be good...but, yeah, there's little chance of W2 missing it.

Yes, probably should've included the Brewers as well. Weeks, 2b Hardy, SS Fielder, 1B Hall, CF Estrada, C Jenkins, LF Gross, RF Counsell, 3B Vargas, P

Why not just hit Zambrano 7th...gives us a much better chance to drive in Lee, Ramirez, Jones, et al.

seems Hill, Lilly and Marquis are doing just fine when Barrett catches Z did have his one good start this year with hank behind the plate though. I do think that Z and Barrett don't get along too well, not that it should matter on the field.

What did Hank say to Zambrano last year when he was pitching poorly? Something like 'throw a strike or I'll hit you'? I can't remember, but it's probably true that he needs someone to get in his face like that.

W2 already on top of the Hughes situation The Joe, if you check our fantasy site.

Hmmm... Deciding whether Izzy or Hank deserved to hit 7th must have been a bitch...

I'm betting that he finds some damage, cleans it up, and they declare that he'll need a few months to heal, but come next ST, he'll be as good as new. Then it'll be the same thing next spring.

what do you think are the chances of a BCB tonight in light of zombie's bulletin board comments towards the brewers? i can see it now, fielder, jenkins, whoever, goes deep, zombie hits the next guy, and it's on!

Hughes had a 7.71 ERA in Spring Training, and just under 4.00 at AAA Scranton. My guess is he gets lit up in the AL East. The Yanks are desperate.

Mike, it took me a couple of seconds to figure out what you were talking about. Until i finished your post, I thought you were saying "chances of a Bleed Cubbie Blue tonight".

this is the worst camera work i've ever seen from a so-called big league broadcast

z is a head case. I know that's not news, but with prior and wood done, which they are, he is the ace, and he has to learn how to take a lead given to him and close the deal. makes me crazy.

the cubs had better be in the Santana sweepstakes, b/c they need a legit #1 starter...

2nd and 3rd, no outs, bottom of the 7th --- annnnd Soriano, Murton and Lee all fail to get a run home. Wonder why we can't win close games?

4-0 lead @ home, w/ the 'ace' going & here we are again...lou is all in w/ the bench...

South Bend just lost the lead in the bottom of the 9th on the weirdest scenario, ever.

It's absolutely pouring rain....men on 1st and 2nd, 1out....JPatterson asks for a new ball, but no time out was called....he throws the old ball toward the dugout (not sure if it rolled out of play).....the ump declares the runners get two bases each so one run scores. Then a single up the middle ties the game.

The rain was coming down in buckets at this point.

    Just weird

...and bellinger is gone in the 7th because of that 2nd blown chance and the wall he bounced off of...

hopefully his rib cage/shoulder feels better tomorrow, we just got happ back.

    Phil,

Any thoughts on Y. Rojas' stuff and Y. Melendez's game (I believe I've asked about him before, sorry)?

wow, things are moving fast.  hopefully it continues.

morel with 4 clean plays in 4 innings...showed off his 100000000mph arm a couple times.

cody bellinger not having a good 4th, though...5 run leads are handy when your CF is making your pitcher have a 5-out inning.  2nd blown chance was ruled a hit even though it went in/out of his glove...1st was lost in the lights, also ruled a hit.

oh yeah, totally, i was just chiming about why i fan like i fan.

i would like nothing more than hendricks to keep on hendricks'ing.  guys with his stuff can throw for a long, long time as long as it works.

he velocity is actually up a minor amount this year.  it's really "damn" when a guy like him not only has gas in the tank, but it's looking like it was years ago.  he added a curve a few years ago and it helped a little bit, but he's throwing it less and less while the fb/change combo are less effective.

CRUNCH—There is no one person in this community I’m talking about.  My remarks were not directed at you or anyone, but at a tone I’ve noticed lately.

You have a great, dry sense of humor and there is thought behind your comments.   You and I don’t always agree but I always understand your position.

Lastly, and I’ll be quiet, I agree with you on Hendricks.  We can dislike the recent performance but still love the guy.  Lots of questions about his future.

myself, i make a good amount of outrageously unrealistic comments that are sometimes "violent"...like my recent suggestion of "pulling the bandaid off" by having hendricks throw every inning of every game until he's on the IL.

i would hope any athlete that cares about what is written on the internet realizes how casual fans can be about treating their lives like scripted TV characters that don't have real lives.  it's not an excuse to do it, but there's a lot of it out there.

but yeah, in real life i'm rooting for guys to have long and healthy careers even if i'm not happy with current performances...except for some guys...and i'm pretty sure i don't leave grey area for those comments...and almost all of them are not good humans whether they're playing baseball or not...

hendricks was getting a good amount of boos in his last game.  i would bet a million that he will get a standing O every time he visits wrigley in his post-playing days, or a return with a new team should his career continue...or if he comes back and puts in an oldschool good performance.
