Game 44 Thread / Cubs @ Padres (2 of 3)

The - Riot on the bench tonight...

Soriano, Pagan, DLee, ARam, Barrett, Orange Guy, Derosa, Izzy & Marshall

vs. Giles, Cruz, Cameron, Gonzalez, Greene, Baird, Kouzmanoff, Sledge & Wells

heres hoping the orange guy drives in some runs
i would think we can hit wells

In the last 2 weeks Theriot is hitting .254 with 6 runs scored, 3 RBIs, and 2 SBs.

Let him sit.

I forgot to mention the .185 AVG for the last week.

Neil Cotts started and pitched the first 3 inings for the I-Cubs tonight. 1 hit, no runs, no walks and 2K's.

Sounds good, but he problem wasn't getting out AAA hitters...

his problem...

on the pregame radio interview with Santo, Lou said it was hard incorporating the three lefty's that were in the bullpen into action.

translation: they all sucked so much it was tough to figure out which to demote, so the last guy to screw up got to go to Iowa.

...annnnd Marshall walks the first batter he faces.

Amazing. Simply amazing.

even Jose Cruz Jr can hit behind runners. the cubs should try that occasionally.

DAVE: I heard Murton stole a base tonight???

Maybe he does have above average speed?

wow... way to bring up a discussion that was dead a few days ago...

This is TCR, discussions NEVER die....

It's his eighth career steal, man. Seriously.

Murton doubled off 2nd on a bloop to RF...apparently, he's not speedy enough to make up for lousy baserunning.

That base was stolen on Wells. Murton was able to read the high leg kick.

But that orange hair sure makes him look fast.

thanks Cesar...that wasn't too predictable.

The guy's created 5 outs in 3 at-bats tonight! Perhaps his little mini-hit-streak was a deceptive illusion...PLEASE pinch-hit Riot for Marshall next inning and get Izzy out of there in case his spot comes around again in an important situation!

The TURD-is!

GREAT AB, dumbshit!

Way to play for the TEAM!

Ugh, why not pinch hit The Riot in that basesloaded situation. All Neifi, er, IzTurdis, does is slap at the ball. Outfield plays at coed softball girl depth for him. Booooooo.

i mean talk about that HR being fait accompli right on the heels of suckturis's awesome AB.

this team earns its losses that's for sure.

blame this one on are piece of shortstop

yes. "ARE piece of shortstop"

Or - you can do the right thing and blame HENDRY for the "Gold Glover!"

what a bunch of gutless pukes this team is...

Or - you can do the right thing and blame HENDRY for the “Gold Glover!”

I thought Maddux approved that trade to "help" the Cubs...

Screw you Izzy, go somewhere and die.

Hey, it's Lou playing Izzy every day no matter what. I better hear that Theriot was hurt tonight.

I was following on Gameday and want to make sure: did Jacque Jones REALLY try to pull an outside pitch on 3-2 with the game on the line? Really? We're paying this guy actual money to put our jersey on?

(The loss isn't necessarily his fault, but this is just another example of Jacque not knowing how to play the game right)

This series is over. Maybe the Cubs can score another run tomorrow night.

Also, when the game is on the line, you bring in someone like Ward who has proven he can PH vs Jones, who is in a major slump.

Hey CT Steve:
Soriano 6/38, .158 avg
Barrett 7/37, .189 avg
DeRosa: 3/19, .158 avg

It's not like this team has been tearing the cover off the ball the last 2 weeks.

  • Take THAT, Cardinals -- you beat Fernandez, we beat Sale.

I really like Lackey as a 6-inning pitcher.

  • Three amigos? Because the Dominican, the Venezuelan, and the Cuban?

    Maybe the three-headed dragon?

  • Who says Contreras can't frame? Stone cold robbery of Eaton with that called third strike for the first out in the eighth

  • Russell with 19 RBI in July so far. Grand Slams help.

  • ...and Familia with back-to-back blown saves. Blows a one-run lead vs. Rockies today, gets his 2nd consecutive loss.

I am OK with the Mets missing the playoffs and suffering crushing losses at home --- just want them to beat St. Louis.

He played with fire twice agains the Cubs -- unfortunately, the Cubs couldn't stop swinging.

  • How about Kyle Farnsworth? I know he was consistently upper 90s.

  • If he puts up Soriano numbers I will be ecstatic

  • I think Javy is learning--but he's learning to make contact, not learning to lay off pitches out of the zone. A quick glance at his plate discipline numbers on Fangraphs shows that his contact rate is up, especially his contact rate out of the zone, but his swing rate is up too, especially his swing rate out of the zone.

  • I definitely saw ballpark radar guns go up to 102 on Kerry Wood back when he was still a starter, but who knows how accurate they were.

  • They've mentioned Henry Rodriguez (2013), Chris Carpenter, and Andrew Cashner as Cubs who have gone 100+. They said Rodriguez was tops at 100.8. Who knows before 2008?

  • Regarding Heyward--

He'll play regardless of what he does, just like Soriano played for seven years before they finally ditched him.

What can they do? All I can think of is they can keep hiring and firing hitting coaches until they find one who can get him to stop hitting balls with the handle of the bat.

(All those broken bats added to his paycheck is just a bit much.)

  • Lester will probably be all right.

I think Arrieta might have added too much muscle preparing for that butt-naked ESPN photo shoot. Pitchers are supposed to be loose, not muscled up.

  • I have basically written off Heyward for this year -- if you are working on major swing changes in late July, you are going to struggle. Hopefully, he can be more productive at the plate next year. It will be interesting to see what they do with him if the Cardinals keep winning and close the gap. Heyward is dead last in the NL in slugging and in the bottom 5 in OPS -- yet still has a positive WAR. Hunh.

  • Has anybody in a Cub uniform ever thrown a ball 103 before?
