in terms of today's game, Lee, Scott and Biggio have hit Z well. Don't be surprised if Izturis gets a start, 10 for 29 with 2 2B's off Jennings. Lee and Floyd have hit Jennings decently.

it's almost like another opening day! exciting. go cubs. it's been too long.

game thread will be up by game time but lineup is Soriano, Theriot, Lee, Ramirez, Floyd, DeRosa, JJ, Soto, Z Biggio, Pence, Berkman, Lee, Loretta, Lamb, Scott, Munson, Jennings

The way Lou was talking, I had a feeling JJ would be in the lineup. Soto gets the start his first day up!

Rob G- Trivia question- Who was the last Cub pitcher to start two games in a row? Answer- I don't know!!!!!!

man 2005 was depressing, we go into the break one game under and come out winning 5 of 6. Then lose 3 straight, win 3 straight, take a series from the Giants, but lose 3 of 4 to the Dbacks at home a the deadline and then fall apart on an East Coast trip and against Cincy losing 8 straight including the Barrett Boner against Philly.

By the way, an ESPN Insider article (couldn't read the entire thing) by Buster Onley rates the Cubs second-half schedule as the easiest in the majors, although he also has the Brewers second.

damn, game notes shows the Cubs had more homers in the first half of 2006 than 2007. But what a difference in pitching this year...

bummer, Rickey named 1st base coach instead, Hojo named hitting coach of the Mets.

Hey... I heard that the Cubs have the easiest schedule in the second half somewhere... I also heard the Cubs were offering Jason Schmidt 3/44.

Excerpt from Olney's Article: 1. Chicago Cubs Home games: 41 of 75 Games against teams at .500 or better: 24 Biggest hurdle: The Cubs have a stretch of tough games in August, but keep this in mind -- they do not currently have a game scheduled against a team with a record of .500 or better after Sept. 6. Big Finish: Six straight road games, at Florida and Cincinnati.

it sure does look easy, no doubt. 41 of 75 home games only 24 games against teams .500 or better at the moment no one over .500 after Sept. 6th.... Brewers... 38 of 74 home games also 24 games against teams .500 or better last week is a lot tougher than ours as well, Cards and Padres. We get 6 on the road at Florida and what should look like Lousville by that point, I mean Cincinnati.

you couldn't expect us to win these matchups... Josh Hancock (RIP) vs Greg Maddux Luke Hudson vs. Glendon Rusch Aaron Harang vs Mark Prior (the 16 K game)

Maybe I'm wrong there. But I was pretty certain it was Dunn. But either way it SUCKED!!!!!

I just looked it up and it had to be Kearns. Dunn played great too but Kearns hit game winning homers in two of those games.

Chad- Agreed!!! I'm positive it was Kearns, because he banged a double off the left center wall to end the Cubs season.

he is the cousin of ex-Cubs utility infielder Ramon Martinez . ------ Dusty called Ramon...MONEY. Is Soto, Slow Money?

I like the Bubba burger ad sign behind home plate while Geovanny Soto is at bat...coincidence?

he's a low-level cubs star in the modern history of the cubs (c.zambrano, k.wood, r.dempster, etc), but that star has dimmed...and has been dimming since 2021.

2024 has been ugly the whole way and we're only in mid-april.  homers aside (even though there's been 7 in 17ip) he gave up 29 hits in 20 spring innings and 31 in 17 regular season innings.

he's pretty much only got 2 pitches at this point in his career and the mix isn't fooling anyone.  he threw a noticable amount more curves in his last start to add to the mix and it didn't help his issues.  he don't have many moves left to break out.

Definitely needs a 10 day stint for the hangnail - have to nip those things in the bud or suffer the consequences (ie, more opponent home run derby, etc)

Thanks for checking and yeah, that’s a double ouch

  • Sonicwind75 (view)

Believe you are correct, checked and appears Cubs have a $2.51 million obligation to Barnhart this season per Cot's Contracts.  Also paying Trey Mancini $7mil this season.  Ouch.

m.busch had 0hr and 2 doubles when he was last at wrigley.

we'll probably see a few more of his jerseys in the seats when they return tomorrow.

wonder who will go down for taillon.  hey hendricks, you got a hangnail or something?

Nice work by Wesneski with some solid defense behind him and the late tack on runs were welcome. Gladly take a 5-4 West Coast swing, particularly down two key starting pitchers … Now just don’t get swept by the Marlins for Pete’s sake.

dansby takes the team lead in SB today after a SB with 2 SB total.  the team has 3.  madrigal has the other one.

cubs also have 7 triples, 7 players each.

sure am ready for p.wisdom and m.masterboney to swap roster spots.

The fifth inning has not been kind to Wicks this season. Giving up leadoff doubles to Tucker Barnhart is also not good for business. IIRC, the Cubs are on the hook for the majority of Barnhart’s salary this season to add insult to injury (could definitely be wrong here).

Kris Bryant to IL with low back strain. He’s keeping the Rockies docs busy.
