On an almost related point from the last thread, what is the best baseball game available on the internet. Miniclip's "bottom of the ninth" and Candystands "bullpen blast" were the best I could find. ...

And where is the ted lilly fan club prediction?

Your Ted Lilly Fan Club Super Computer (TLFCSC) Projection for tonights game.

6 2/3 IP 3 ER 5 K 2 BB 1-2 2B, Sac Bunt, 1 Professional Outing, W.

Enjoy. We hope the weather comes through

Brilliant timing.

.500 is calling, it's wants the Cub's back.

Sorry the projection took an extra 5 minutes, Mark. Intern Richie spilled his sippy- cup on the SC and shorted it.

mark, bullpen blast is a real fun game. we play it at work all the time. Actually, I've never made it out of the seventh but my employee has throw the perfect game.

No problem tlfcsc. Always look forward to your view. Typical intern richie - schoolboy error.

Agreed chad. I have actually managed a perfect game too. That is because I went through a period of playing it non-stop though. That I haven't been fired surprises me everyday.

Ain't nothing good can come from a rainout tonight. Keep the precipitation at bay.

Chad, try bottom of the ninth too. It's quite good. Easy and medium levels are a walk in the park. Winning on the hard level is pretty tough though. Haven't managed it yet.

VITTERS SIGNS

7 year MLB contract

$19 and a pack of Juicy Fruit.

Winning on the hard level is pretty tough though. Haven’t managed it yet.

Chad, allow me to save you the trouble. We have three words for you, Mark. On...Base... Percentage.

Neal, is that for real? (Excuse the pun.) That is nothing like what we expected.

Let's please not have the obp conversation again. Even in the context of an online game.

Neal, when I was playing that game, i was calling it "The OBP Game"

Real Neal,

Because Hendry went Pacman this winter this might be our best offer for Vitters.

I know it's a lot "cooler" to bash beat writers, but I happen to like Wittenmyer. I've read many of his articles, disagreed with some, agreed with some. He was just on talking to Len & Bob.

An updated version of Wieters and O's being miles apart....

19th Round Pick, Kyle Day going back to college and 25th round pick, INF Victor Sanchez is pretty likely headed to college.

http://cubs.scout.com/2/668820.html

Dominguez signed with the Marlins, the 12th pick...4 to go.

Start time 8:30 Central

I think DeRosa's a good player and that was a nice play by Conine, but after slugging .355 in July and .306 thus far in August, he really shouldn't be hitting in the middle of the order. He hasn't gone deep since June.

make no mistake about it, Michael Wuertz is a total bum

How about our starting pitchers are bums for not being able to go deep in the game and throwing everything on the bullpen?

Murton, though, rocks. GO MURTON!

Crap -- should have gone to bed when it was 9-6.

Nine runs aren't enough -- yeesh.

I don't know if you guys heard this but Len and Bob just mentioned on WGN that the Cubs signed Vitters. Booyah.

(I didn't catch the terms, though)

Vitters was just waiting for Moustakas to sign, as we thought all along.

Note to self:

FOR THE 1,000TH TIME:

Do NOT stay up late to watch the Cubs, you dumbass. You know what will happen.

Oh, brother -- swept by the Astros, now about to drop 2 at home vs. the Reds. I can't stands no more. Bleep this bleeping game.

The only realistic hope:

Have Marmol pitch every inning of every game.

Time for bed -- I cannot bear to watch that fat turd Weathers close us out again.

From the hottest team in the majors to one of the coldest -- just....like...that.

cubs start hitting
cubs stop pitching

sounds like a broken record from
years past we always seem to do one well.

and look at this future hall of famer vs.
the cub david (stormy) weathers will
pitch bottom of ninth.

this sucks

I just cant' understand why Howry throws that inexplicable fastball just above the belt. The previous two were fouled off. Hamilton showed that that pitch was not getting by.

Nice work bullpen!!!!

We were doing okay till Piniella started managing in the top of the sixth inning. He had a plan: Wuertz, Marmol, Howry and Dempster would do an inning each to protect a three-run lead.

The plan started to unravel after Wuertz threw one pitch in the sixth.

Four problems with the plan: 1) Wuertz, 2) Dempster, 3) & 4) Marmol and Howry are overworked. Marmol has lost three or four MPH on his fastball.

Lilly could have pitched the sixth, and then Wood and Pignatiello could have pitched. But Piniella doesn't want to use Wood or Pignatiello to protect a lead. So far Wood has not been given the ball with a lead. Why? These games are too important, we're fighting for first, or we're fighting for the wildcard, you just have to make the playoffs, this could be our year, etc., etc.

Meanwhile, the Reds manager puts in triple-A lefty and he shuts us down for two innings.

In other words, our manager choked.

I'm so glad the Cubs gave Hamilton to the Reds for nothing.

And yes, 50K [or whatever Hendry pocketed] is nothing.

And no, don't give me that crap about how no one knew Hamilton was going to perform [just like no one knew Dontrelle Willis would ever do shit]. Obviously the Reds GM knew.

So the Cubs get stuck filling in constantly open outfield slots with the likes of Yet Another Patterson, Pie, Pagan and Daryl F. Ward [to the tune of a million bucks]. I guess that 50K can maybe buy Zambrano a farewell lunch or something at the end of the year.

But YAY, the Cubs overpaid some draft pick who will probably pan out to shit because the organization doesn't know how to judge talent.

when's Zambrano's next start? i mean he's our stopper, our $20MM man...he'll right the ship....right?>

Stick a fork in this team. The bullpen is spent and the starters are starting to pitch to their caliber.

#30: Do NOT stay up late to watch the Cubs, you dumbass. You know what will happen.

Not to brag, but at age 36 (32 of which have been spent identifying as a Cub fan), I have mastered the correct approach. I watched them take the lead 9-6 and choke it back 9-9. I went to bed right after that, thinking "they are going to lose. 11-9."

Sensing futility and correctly predicting the final score. Nobody can tell me I'm not a real Cub fan.

OH CRAP and I have to do stuff at work today with a Sox fan asdfsrserweqsadf;alfajfwpjafl;s

I’m so glad the Cubs gave Hamilton to the Reds for nothing.

Give it up.

Hamilton has been out of baseball for a couple of years, and had had only played 23 games above A ball (and played pretty poorly in those 23 games). There is/was no question that Hamilton is talented, but there were HUGE questions about whether or not Hamilton could play in the big leagues AND stay clean.

The Reds took a risk, and it paid off.

And oh yea... you do know that Hamilton has spent much of the year on the DL, right?

Cubs take risk, but they very rarely pay off. Wade Miller, anyone? He'll probably be in a Reds uni next year, and will throw 3 CG shutouts against us.

Cubs take risk, but they very rarely pay off.

Ryan Dempster has paid off.

Jason Marquis has paid off, for the most part, so far.

Jason Kendall has paid off, for the most part.

No. The Cubs burned their pick on Hamilton to sell him to the Reds for squat. Obviously, the Reds were onto something and the Cubs, as stupid as the Brer Fox, fell for it without thinking twice.

How many games as Hamilton cost the Cubs this year? Two? I hope we don't miss the Division or WC by two games. If so, I hope Hendry invested that 50K in a ticket out of town on a private jet.

*Hamilton has been out of baseball for a couple of years, and had had only played 23 games above A ball (and played pretty poorly in those 23 games). *

So? Matt Murton has been in the Major Leagues for the better part of the last two years and he's not as good as Hamilton.

*There is/was no question that Hamilton is talented, but there were HUGE questions about whether or not Hamilton could play in the big leagues AND stay clean. *

And for little to no money or risk, the Reds got a pretty nice player, while the Cubs can't keep the same 3 or 4 or 5 guys in the outfield for the whole year.

*&The Reds took a risk, and it paid off.*

Yep, while the Cubs seem to only take risks on guys who have had their arms surgically re-attached and it usually DOESN'T work out. To the tunes of MILLIONS of dollars.

*And oh yea… you do know that Hamilton has spent much of the year on the DL, right?*

And yet, he still has more homers than 95% of the Cub team. How many combined days have Ramirez, Lee & Soriano been on the DL?
