Game 142 Thread/Cubs @ Pirates (3 of 3)

Game Chat : BR Preview : Game Notes Steve Trachsel vs. Matt Morris Lineups:
Soriano LF Morgan CF
Theriot SS McLouth LF
Lee 1B Sanchez 2B
Ramirez 3B LaRoche 1B
Murton RF Bautista 3B
Jones CF Pearce RF
DeRosa 2B Paulino C
Kendall C Wilson SS
Trachsel P Morris P
Notes: This is a match-up between veteran righties who started the season pitching for eventual bottom-dwellers. Trachsel left Baltimore to join a division leader; Morris left San Francisco only to land on a different part of the bottom...Morris is one of those pitchers I think of as a proverbial Cub-killer, and he has had his moments against us. Still, over his last five starts versus the Cubs, Morris is 0-5, 7.86, allowing 46 hits and 7 HR in just 26 1/3 innings, which sounds an awful lot like batting practice...Trachsel last pitched for the Cubs against the Bucs in July of '99, in a game the Pittsburghs would win 6-1. I'd say it's time for revenge. Let's win this one for Tyler Houston!

The Cub Reporter gets stiffed again. http://www.chicagotribune.com/features/chi-mxa0909magcubsfansep09,1,306… "BCB is not the only game in town. The many other Cubs blogs, with names such as Agony and Ivy, Goat Riders of the Apocalypse, Cub Fan Nation, Bleacher Hideaway and View from the Bleachers, are testaments to the fact that everybody talks about the Cubs, but unlike the weather, everyone seems to know what to do about them." Typical. Lists like that are dead giveaways that the writer doesn't know what he's talking about. Agony and Ivy, for example, has had two posts since May... Cubs Fan Nation with a total of two posts all year is part of Goatriders which is also on the list... YEESH

Joe Sheehan from Baseball Prospectus' update on the NL East from Friday: http://tinyurl.com/36kx3e his interpretation of run differential discussion is interesting, I doubt if that is universally agreed up on though. ------- "Now, I’ll be the first one to tell you that run differential is both a better indicator of team quality and a better predictor of future performance than actual record is. Other than the impact of a particularly good or bad--or well-leveraged--bullpen, teams don’t show an ability to bunch their runs scored and allowed in ways that affect their won-loss record. At the same time, while a team’s run differential is a critical indicator of quality and long-term outlook, it’s less useful in predicting short-term performance. In fact, you can take that idea one step further: a baseball team’s performance over its next 23 games is virtually unpredictable, by whatever means you'd try to make one." and his conclusion... "I liked the Cubs in February, April, June and August, and I’m sticking with them now. Sometimes, the best team wins, and the Cubs have the best team."

Thanks for nothing CINC. First 3 batters for MIL gets HR's and the first 5 guys get hits. UGH!!!!!!!

And CWTP: thanks for the support. Speaking for myself, at least, I'll take a loyal core of TCR'ers over recognition from the Tribute. (And again speaking for myself, I really do wonder if we've just done enough to irk the Tribune that they're making a point of not referencing us.... That's sort of a cooler theory than the one that says they're not even aware of our existence.)

Thanks for nothing CINC. First 3 batters for MIL gets HR’s and the first 5 guys get hits. UGH!!!!!! As it turned out I believe the Brewers went back to back HR-HR-HR-single-single-single in that inning. The starter Dumatrait was removed after pitching 0.0 innings. I was pissed at the Reds for starting a batting practice pitcher against our rival in the pennant race until I remembered that he started against us too--- and tried his best to give us a win, lasting only 2.0 innings with 5 earned runs. Lilly stunk that day and the Reds won 11-9. Just looked at his game log and he also started against St.Louis so it looks like Cincinnati has been fair to us all.

It should of Since you're back mannytrillo, could we have a moratorium on this malaprop---at least until the season is over (which may be today)? it's a contraction: SHOULD'VE Meanwhile, Kevin Hart (who was the Cubs MILB organization's suggestion to take over for Marshall) takes over for Trashel (Hendry and Lou's idea). And he strikes out two in the third....no runs.

CWTP: "Since you’re back mannytrillo, could we have a moratorium on this malaprop—at least until the season is over (which may be today)? it’s a contraction: SHOULD’VE" Thanks professor Pennant... I didn't realize the grammor police we're steel in full effect hear at TCR.

why didn't marshall come in directly after trachsel? when is he going to start again? why was he removed? what the F is going on?

Grammar police?? You're not making a grammatical or even a spelling error, mannytrillo. I could care less about grammar and spelling mistakes. What you're doing is just stupid and annoying. "Should of" is a malapropism. It sounds like what you mean, but so does "should dove." But I won't mention it again. It's just painful to read.

*“I liked the Cubs in February, April, June and August, and I’m sticking with them now. Sometimes, the best team wins, and the Cubs have the best team.”* Right, because the best team is the one stupid enough to go add Monroe & Trachsel and think "Well, that'll do it!".

What you’re doing is just stupid and annoying. [Insert joke about similarly colored cooking intruments here]

BOOOOOOOOOOO!!! F Trachsel!!! Lose 2 of 3 vs. PITT in September...UGH!!!!!!!

masterboney is a luxury on a team that has multiple, capable options for 2nd, SS, and 3rd without him around.  i don't hate the guy, but if madrigal is sticking around then masterboney is expendable.

I THINK I agree with that decision. They committed to Wicks as a starter and, while he hasn’t been stellar I don’t think he’s been bad enough to undo that commitment.

That said, Wesneski’s performance last night dictates he be the next righty up.

Quite the dilemma. They have many good options, particularly in relief, but not many great ones. And complicating the situation is that the pitchers being paid the most are by and large performing the worst - or in Taillon’s case, at least to this point, not at all.

    Wesneski and Mastrobuoni to Iowa

    Taillon and Wisdom up

Wesneski can't pitch for a couple of days after the 4 IP from last night. But Jed picked Wicks over Wesneski.

cubs getting crazy good at not having player moves leak.

taillon we 100% know is pitching tonight.  who he's replacing and any additional moves are unknown as far as i can tell.

p.wisdom was not in today's lineup in iowa (rained out) and he was removed from the game last night mid-game, but not for injury.  good bet he's with the team in the bigs, too.

A good rule of thumb is that if you trade a near-ready high ceiling prospect, you should get at least two far-away high ceiling prospects in return.  Like all rules-of-thumb, it depends upon the specific circumstances, but certainly, we weren't going to get Busch for either prospect alone.

Right on schedule, just read an article in Baseball America entitled "10 MLB Prospects Outside The Top 100 Who Have Our Attention".  Zyhir Hope was one of the prospects featured. It stated that he's "one of the biggest arrow-up sleeper prospects in the lower levels right now."

Not sharing to be negative about the trade, getting a top 100 prospect who is MLB ready should carry a heavy prospect cost.  But man, Dodger sure are good at identifying and developing young talent. Andrew Friedman seems to have successfully merged Ray's development with Yankees financial might to create a juggernaut of an organization.

I suspect Brown will spend some time in the bullpen due to inning restrictions.  Pitched only 93 innings last year and career high is 104 innings in 2022.  I would expect them to be cautious with a young player with his injury history.

I wanted Almonte gone last week, but that was before Merryweather went down and Little got demoted. Almonte in his last 5 appearances has gone 4.1 IP with no ER or Runs. NO hits, 3 BBs and 8 SO. He did hit 96 with his 2S FB in AZ on Tues.
I don't see Jed waiving him when we have injuries all over and guys with options that can be sent down.
I probably won't like the move Jed makes, but he can't play the "let's hope no one wants his 1.7mil remaining deal and we can hide him in Iowa" card.
That's why I think the current Bullpen stays as is and Wicks goes to Iowa.
I don't like that, but that's the fix I see.
    We'll find out soon enough!!!
