The struggling Padres roll into town, their league-worst offense versus the league's best. Yes, the Cubs do have the best offense in the league. Repeat. Enjoy. Savor. A look at the game notes that are chocked full of offensive goodness, shows that the Cubs lead the NL in OBP, 2nd in walks, first in runs scored (in the majors), and first in pitches seen per plate appearance. The Cubs are also tied for third in the NL with 10 come-from-behind victories. It's rather unique in my lifetime to have a good Cubs team and then look at the underlying numbers and realize that this is indeed a good Cubs team, and not a fluke. I'm not saying that the wheels might not come off at some point, I mean, they're one Carlos Zambrano arm injury from that happening, but I'll enjoy it while I can.

As for tonight's game, it's game four of the 10-game homestand and the Cubs will have all kinds of opportunities to expand on the 2nd best home record in the NL (Braves are first). The Padres are proud holders of the worst record in the NL and will be pitching Shawn Estes tomorrow. Then the Cubs personal whipping boys, the Pirates, come in over the weekend. I'd say the odds are in favor of another strong homestand.

Go Cubs! Go Z!

wolf i'm gonna handle with kid gloves a while...play him at home in SD unless his stuff is really on a roll.

his curve looks great this year. control is better...still, he's not a velocity guy and he's gonna give up contact/hits and count on his fielding.

# You know, Rob,

your optimistic preview isn't so comforting for those of us that are superstition-minded, what with the mentions of a probable good homestand and an arm injury for Z.

# Re: You know, Rob,

if I had the power to affect the outcome of anything Cubs related, the Cubs would be going for their 23rd straight World Series title.

# Re: You know, Rob,

Yep, you're powerless. Our 6 week study has proven that rally caps and Chad's power of gay are the only things TCR related that can influence outcome.

From Rotoworld: Adam Dunn is hitting seventh Monday for the first time since 2005. Meanwhile, Ken Griffey Jr. continues to get a free pass. Dunn has the better OPS of the two by 55 points and has the same exact number of runs+RBI as Griffey despite using just 85 percent as many outs and always batting lower in the order.
