A few interesting things about today's game. First, there's Sean Gallagher's gameday photo.

Demand a retake Sean, you're a big-leaguer now.

Next up, is today's lineup which gives Fukudome a day off in favor of giving Ronny Cedeno a start at second base and shifting DeRosa to right field. Both, DeRosa and Cedeno are 4 for 9 off Gorzelanny, with DeRosa having the edge in walks and extra-base hits though. Yet, Lou put Cedeno in the 6th spot.

Moving to the Pirates, when did Mientkiewiicz become a third basemen?

Finally, the Cubs see Gorzelanny for the third time this season and he's hasn't made it out of the third inning in either start, walking an incredible eight batters in those five innings combined and allowing 14 earned runs.

The Cubs look to extend their winning streak to ten games over the Pirates dating back to last year, and try to go to 7-1 on this 10-game homestand.

Should be "shifting DeRosa to right"

#2 Re: Game 42 Thread / Pirates @ Cubs (1 of 3)

there was actually a whole sentence missing there as well...thanks for the catch.

#3 Gallagher

Stoned!

#4 Re: Game 42 Thread / Pirates @ Cubs (1 of 3)

Alfonso Soriano is currently my favorite Cub. Tom Gorzelanny is second.

#6 Post of the Day

LOL!!

#5 Re: Game 42 Thread / Pirates @ Cubs (1 of 3)

wow he does looked stoned

take a new picture

#12 Gameday photos

Who takes those pictures? Do they intentionally ambush these ballplayers in order to get these goofball shots? Is it in the Players Union contract that mid-season callups must look like dorks in their Gameday photo? Gameday is full of doozies like that.

It is a digital camera. For crying out loud, take more than one picture. Look at the little screen on the back.

#18 Re: Gameday photos

They got him just as he and Kumar were heading to White Castle.

#7 Re: Game 42 Thread / Pirates @ Cubs (1 of 3)

God damn it, lou!!
Quit using Z to pinch hit.

If he gets hurt, season over.

#8 Re: Game 42 Thread / Pirates @ Cubs (1 of 3)

Use Marquis to PH -- he can hit, and if he gets hurt, eh.

Nothing personal, Jason.

No hits for Edmonds today. Douchebag.

#9 Re: Game 42 Thread / Pirates @ Cubs (1 of 3)

At what point does Hendry cut Howry?

#10 Re: Game 42 Thread / Pirates @ Cubs (1 of 3)

Cubs Win!

#11 Re: Game 42 Thread / Pirates @ Cubs (1 of 3)

KW gives Howry a steak dinner for making the 9th inning qualify for a save situation

#13 Re: Game 42 Thread / Pirates @ Cubs (1 of 3)

Guys, I really think Soriano is hurt.

His home runs should have at least gotten onto Waveland!

#20 Re: Game 42 Thread / Pirates @ Cubs (1 of 3)

He's not circling the bases nearly as fast anymore. Clearly he's in decline.

I have Adam Jones on my fantasy team, so I get to gaze upon his beautiful visage from time to time:

Bringing home Leningrad Cowboy's point nicely.

#15 Re: Game 42 Thread / Pirates @ Cubs (1 of 3)

Did I miss a memo? Is the NLDS best of 7 now?

#16 Re: Game 42 Thread / Pirates @ Cubs (1 of 3)

Great game (except for Howry)!

Keep it up, Sean -- the food is much better here than in Iowa. But, man, get a new mug shot.

What are the save rules again -- Wood came in yesterdy with a 4-run lead, but 2 runners on....if the potential tying run is on deck, that's a save situation (if I recall)?

#17 Re: Game 42 Thread / Pirates @ Cubs (1 of 3)

A save is awarded if the lead is three runs or less, or if the tying run is at the plate or on deck.

#22 Re: Game 42 Thread / Pirates @ Cubs (1 of 3)

More specifically, a save is awarded if, at the time the relief pitcher enters the game, the lead is three runs or less, or if the tying run is at the plate or on deck. Wood entered the game a couple of games ago with a four run lead and allowed one run to score plus two more batters to reach base before closing the game out. Wood did not get a save, even though the lead was only three runs by the end of the game and the tying run was at the plate -- because Wood created that situation rather than inheriting it.

Posted this above on the wrong thread -

I don't like Z batting for no particular reason other than to save a position player either. But if he must, I'd rather see him bat against lefties so his pitching arm is not a sitting duck like when he bats against righties. Or just bat right handed all the time.

That's what I get for trying to do this an hour after being under twilight anesthesia. The good news - my colon is very healthy and photogenic.

#23 Re: Z hitting

I'm guessing Z must have hounded Lou in the dugout until he relented and let him pinch hit. And Z loves batting LH cos that's where he hits most of his home runs.
