Hendry With a Harden for A's Pitcher

(Yeah, that headline really happened)

The Sun-Times is reporting that Jim Hendry has been working the phones the last month with Billy Beane and the A's to try and pry Rich Harden from them. Of course, the A's are just four games back in the wild card and six back in the AL West and have one of the better run differentials in the league. So being a seller isn't necessarily a foregone conclusion, and don't be surprised if this rumor lasts until July 31st.

No names were mentioned, but you'd have to imagine that Beane would like somthing similar to the six for two swap he pulled for Dan Haren.

The article also states the Cubs are looking for a lefty for the bullpen with Eyre spending more time on the disabled list than the roster to this point and Neal Cotts being Neal Cotts.

Damn... I would love to see Harden on this team. I worry about the injuries, but the guy is one of the best in the game. Of course... he is already coming close to his allotted annual innings, so we shall see.

I see the Cubs going for Marte on Pirates. How long would Cubs have control of Harden's contract? I see Hendry wanting to trade for Harden so they can hold onto him so they won't have to pay for Dempster this off season.

Why do the Cubs keep these guys? To get to the world series some day, right? Pull the trigger, make it happen. There are only a few I'd like to definitely see the Cubs hang on to: Veal, Samardjiza, Gallagher, and Pie; But you gotta give up something to get something. Murton? Please, take him so I can stop hearing about how Murton "isn't getting a fair shake" ugh. If the Brewers CC deal happens you have to start wondering if a rotation upgrade is just a nice idea or necessity.

yeezus, why do you insist on putting words in my mouth??? I must have missed the references here to his subscap injury which is different from his previous should problems. Sorry for being 3/44. Oh, and thanks for the insider info on his ERA. Who knew?

I like your joke, but the Equal Rights Amendment was proposed in the 1970's and ultimately defeated in 1982. 85 years ago would be approximately the time of the 19th Amendment (passed in 1920 -- 88 years ago), which gave women the right to vote in the U.S. I majored in History in college. Couldn't help myself.

I'd have no problems trading away a bunch of our young talent to get Harden. Might take a pretty serious package of our farm guys to get him, though. He's about as good as it gets. I worry about the injuries, but if he just gets me through the '08 playoffs, that'd be unbelieveable. We'd have the best 1, 2, 3 punch of any of the contenders currently going. Thinking about Z, him, and Dempster in a playoff series is giving ME a Harden. (see what I did there, Rob? OMFG! I JUST PWN3D!!! LOLLERSKATES!1!one!1!!!! 1!1 ROFLCOPTER!1!!eleven!!)

Pull out all the stops as far as trading the farm for Harden or even Tim Hudson if ATL puts him on the market.... One untouchable...Josh Vitters. Other than him, trade whoever they want.

I keep hearing that Toronto will listen to offers for Halladay, though they aren't actively shopping him.

...and a madrigal "non-error" leads to a sac fly for a tie game.  nice.

having a ball clank off your glove, but still getting it count as a hit because it was hit hard is a nice stats gift.

For sure. This lineup isn’t exactly stacked as is, and subbing out a Cooper or even a Tauchman for Madrigal won’t do it any favors.

the ESPN bottom graphic taking up 1/8th of the screen sucks.

i only use ESPN during baseball season and i'm forced to watch a baseball broadcast designed to be broadcast in sports bars and betting parlors where the news/scores of other games is as important as what you're actually tuned in to watch.

morel triple to start the season....yeaaaaaaaaaaaaah

LHP Blake Weiman appears to have been the last cut from the AAA Iowa roster. He is with the Tennessee group at Minor League Camp.

bruce bochy is hobbling rather badly for a guy who's had 2 hip replacements.  his gait is extremely wonky taking the lineup card to the ump.

yeah, for me this isn't about who's better at 3rd.  it's madrigal, period.  for me it's about who's not hitting in the lineup because madrigal is in the lineup.

occasional play at 3rd for madrigal, okay.  going with the steele/ground-ball matchup...meh, but okay, whatever.

seeing madrigal get significant starting time...no thanks.

  • Dolorous Jon Lester (view)

Yeah I am very disappointed Madrigal is starting. He has no business as a starter. He is AAA insurance, a back up at best. Sure his defense looks fine because he plays far enough in that his noodle arm isn’t totally exposed. It comes at the cost of 3B range.

He’s garbage, and a team serious about winning would NOT have him starting opening day.

in other news, it took 3 PA before a.rizzo got his 1st HBP of the season.

With two home runs (so far) and 5 rbi today … clearly Nick Martini is the straw that stirs the Reds drink 😳
