Soriano to be Activated Tonight?

As you've certainly heard by now, Alfonso Soriano headed out to a minor league rehab stint with the rookies in the Arizona League. He lasted all of three at-bats against the AZL Padres in beautiful Peoria, Arizona going 0-2 with a walk, a strikeout and a run scored before being lifted for a pinch-hitter. Speculation arose on why he'd leave the game early and Will Carroll hinted that he might be activated for tonight's game.

Shae (Chicago): Will, there are rumors that Soriano might leave the rehab. game early and could even play tonight, what's the latest?

Will Carroll: That's what I'm hearing. I have someone at Sky Harbor watching ...

I'm not sure what that someone is watching at Sky Harbor since it's a 35 minute drive from Peoria, AZ to Phoenix, AZ, but don't be surprised if he's in the lineup tonight and (I would assume) Micah Hoffpauir gets sent down.

Well, there's only so much room on the active roster but that would be disappointing. Iowa Manager, Pat Listach said he thought Hoffpauir might stick with the Cubs this time.

Umm.. I don't think he'll be driving to the exact intersection where mapquest says Phoenix is... Anyone know where the D-backs' ballpark actually is in the Phoenix area?

holy balls, just pointing out the distance from Peoria to Phoenix...it's not that big a city.

It's just a 14 mile straight shot down W. Grand Avenue from Peoria to the Diamondbacks' stadium on E. Jefferson.

...and for what it's worth, it actually looks like Chase field is pretty much exactly where mapquest says Phoenix is... It just turns out the the Peoria ballpark is in a different place... Yes, I AM bored at work...
...and what the hell is Will Carroll talking about when he says he has someone at Sky Harbor looking for him??? Maybe he thinks Soriano was playing in Peoria, IL??

CWTP/Navigator will be to hear...
that our Peoria is 21-5 (or something like that) over our last 26 games. They're 21-10 in the 2nd half(first place).

The AZL Cubs are 14-9 (2nd place), Boise is 20-13(2nd place), Daytona is 16-11 (in the 2nd half and in first place) and Tennessee is 18-12 (same as Daytona).

See our minors are awesome now...

strip clubs to give his hand a workout
giving one dollar tips.

Levine was asked about this earlier today on ESPN 1k and he said that Soriano would not be playing tonight or tomorrow in a MLB game. BTW, The Brewers-Cardinals game is on ESPN at 6 CT for those without MLB.tv or EI.

I wonder what's the optimal Cubs outcome for this series. Cards are closer, but the Brewers seem the bigger threat on paper.

Maybe if the Cards take 2 of 3? Bonus if the Cubs sweep the Dbacks *fingers crossed*.

It's a four game series, and here's hoping the Cards sweep (they won't) while we take all three (we should) from Arizona.

Like you, nohit, I'm more worried about the Brewers momentum. It could use a good derailing. And we finish the season in their house.

Glad to hear it's a four game series. Let them beat up on each other and both lose momentum.

nothing on why he was lifted early, didn't play in the field.

Claims he's still likely play 2 games with Iowa, which just happens to be in Tucson right now.

wow...i did not know he was 82. i thought he was in his 60s (seriously).

got a few of his books and co-authored books. 'baseball, chicago style' jumps to mind as one of his better ones.

maybe, but chifan noted above that they didn't want to put Wood on the DL yet since the bullpen is rested. Not to mention Eyre needs to come off the disabled list soon for someone.

I saw Holtzman at a press thing at the Cubs Convention, and he looked a little frail. I just assumed it was age-related. I wanted to introduce myself but didn't. RIP, Jerome.
