It would be nice if we could call this one a mulligan and the Pirates beat the Brewers. I wouldn't be completely shocked to see the Cubs make a move for a right handed pinch hitter. I don't think anyone trusts Ronny Cedeno in a pressure pinch hitting situation. Johnson is usually ok but looked bad swinging at ball 4. Ah well first loss since the debacle against the Nationals, I'll take it.

Remember LATROY HAWKINS striking out three Cubs in a mop-up role shortly after being acquired by the 'Stros? He struck out the side. I chalked it up at the time as a case of the Cubs wanting to get the game over with. Well, he kept it up. So far in August he's made 13 appearances, pitched 10.0 innings, allowed no runs on 3 hits and struck out 16! Houston is using him as their set-up man for Valverde. It seems to suit him...

    He'd be able to leave the Cubs. He's out of options. That would open up a 40man spot.

    brewer has done nothing to keep him on the big league roster...imagine that's 1 guy gone.

    yeah, it's only 2 appearances, but they were both unimpressive.

    That's what Alzolay has right now and that's what Kyle has no matter the situation.

    fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu...

    i respect his track record of no longer being in the rotation.  in 2016 he threw 2 innings out of the pen, his only work out of the pen.  the cubs won the world series that year.  let's repeat that magic.  the formula is obvious.  stats don't lie.  etc etc whatever...

    small sample size and all, but how about this craziness...

    No question right now Alfonsin Rosario is one of the Cubs Top 20 prospects (probably Top 15). Rosario is to the Cubs what Zyhir Hope is to the Dodgers.
