TCR Goes National

Well it was nice knowing you all, can't say enough about each and every guys are the best, really. But now that The Cub Reporter has gone national, well, see you losers. Please send media requests to Rob G., I hear Arizona Phil and Transmission are particulary photogenic.

All kidding aside, we did get a mention in USA Today yesterday, well actually reader "DC Tom" did for one of his comments on Ron Santo missing the Hall of Fame. Who and how they unearthed that comment I'm unsure of, but we'll take it.

I'm 98% sure that I won't be able to keep up with the rumors today as I'm fighting a nasty cold and honestly, if I read one more headline saying the deal is "close" or "closer", I'll  beat the offending reporter with their own keyboard.

Hopefully Arizona Phil or someone else will cover the Rule 5 draft today.

Is this a joke? You didn't know that THE COMMENTS SECTION of TCR is read and regularly gets picked up by the media?

You didn't know that THE COMMENTS SECTION of TCR is read and regularly gets picked up by the media?

No, do you have any other examples?

Buster Olney (on Mike & MIke, ESPN radio) said the Yankees have acquired CC's pal, Mike Cameron from the Brewers for Melky Cabrera.

and ESPN's Steve Phillips says Farnsy signs with the Royals

the site is reporting the Cabrerra-Cameron deal referencing the NY Daily news

Oh, so THAT'S why there is paparazzi stationed outside my apartment bedroom window this morning... It's the USA Today publicity... So much for my quite life of solitude.

That is pretty sweet though. Unsolicited, there's a national reporter who thinks it's relevant and useful to slog through our message board comments. Kudos to everyone for giving our conversations such a good reputation.

I think I can kill off my next round of grading by mid-afternoon. If I survive the departmental holiday pot-luck mid-day without punching anyone, I can help with winter meeting updates.

Interesting quote from Towers regarding the Rule 5 draft:

"There are some guys we're interested in taking, but a lot depends on our roster situation ... everything is tied to this [Peavy deal]," Towers said.

I always thought he was kind of bluffing when he said he'd pull Peavy off the block if he didn't get a feel a trade would happen as of Thursday morning. However, he's right -- he needs to know if he's going to be getting a bunch of players before he takes one or two in the Rule 5 draft. Maybe this thing really will be make-or-break today.

Go get 'em, Jim.

Given that the Padres would be netting four or five players from any Peavy deal, 40-man roster considerations are significant. According to their web site, they have 37 players on the 40-man roster today, so they could pick up some guys today but might have to return them (or cut others) if they make the trade later this weekend.

But if Towers pulls Peavy off the table simply so he can participate in the Rule 5 draft, that's a bit like the tail wagging the dog. Especially a talent-free-zone like this Rule 5 draft.

A speaker is only as good as his platform and his microphone. No paparazzi outside my home today, folks.

I'm very glad TCR got the publicity. Though not sure why they picked that quote, there was far better coverage of the Santo debacle elsewhere on TCR. But that's the USA Today for you, sound bites over substance. (and yes, I threw that in to see if a Murdoch paper picks it up.)

Well done for both you and the TCR guys, regardless (even if I disagree with quote ; )).

have "inside track" on Abreu...via rotoworld.

Bruce Levine just on Espn 1000

Nothing new, Cubs looking hard at Bradley they did physical on him which I believe has already been reported on TCR.

Abreu not a good fit for Cubs due to age and price.
Levine said nothing about Abreau for Sux.

Sun-Time Rumblings from meetings-,CS...

Cubs talking to Bako's agent about coming back (LEFTHANDED BAT!!)

Cubs sign catcher Mark Johnson to minor league contract(only been out of MLB for 3 years)

And a crazy new Peavey rumor which would involve Big Z going to White Sox(not even fit for this board)

my how times have changed....from that same article.

The Cubs' training staff, including head trainer Mark O'Neal and assistant Ed Halbur, was named baseball's top staff by its peers.

Hope you feel better soon.

its being noted that the Sox would have to move Dye and his contract first before they can make a run at Abreu.

  • I think it's probably hard to adjust to an ump's zone mid-game, as least for hitters. Pitchers can locate to an ump's zone, but hitters have minimal time to react.

But, whatever. Umps are going to miss calls. Let's beat up on the non-Lackey starters.

  • Watched a little of Mets-Dodgers.

    Jason deGrom -- oh, my.

  • Cubs 3-4-5 hitters are 0-21 so far in the post-season.

Let's change that in a big effin' way tomorrow, boys.

  • Considering how players reacted it seemed pretty accurate high and wide (to righties), but not so accurate low and in. I thought the strike zone by the ump was awful, but it was consistent and the Cubs never adjusted.

Rizzo and Bryant need to have good at bats. They are really looking outclassed in these two games.

  • that game sounds fun as hell.

  • I was just wondering the same thing. I'd rather not see it at all. If it's inaccurate, it's a bad viewer experience. If it's accurate, it shows some shitty calling by the umpire.

  • TBS' K Zone seems to be more harsh than the others.

I wonder if MLB will ask the networks to stop using them. They just make the umps, and the game, look bad, and it only pisses off the fans.

  • ...joe.

  • "Strop vs. Cardinals." Seen the movie. Hated it.

Not all that disappointed -- I didn't think they would beat Lackey in Game 1. Need to get the bats going against the guys with less experience -- and they hit Wacha pretty good.

  • Rizzo has been slumping the last couple weeks of the season. Very disappointed it has continued during his penultimate moment of his career to date.

  • Really doesn't matter, but I was surprised to see Lester pulled and Strop pulled in. Should of left Lester in. oy.

  • Sweet merciful fuck, I hate the Cardinals.

  • *flips table*

  • Really doesn't matter, but I was surprised to see Lester out for the 8th. Down 1-0, at 100 pitches, seemed better to give a very fresh bullpen a little work.

Oh well...Throw away game, although in a 5 game series there is no luxury afforded to do that.

  • This game is not on Lester - he did his job

  • Had a lot of hope hanging on that deep Fowler fly in the sixth.

    Really despise the Cards
