Kid K takes the mound today and will try and prevent the first place Astros from sweeping the series after Mark Clark's 7th inning meltdown last night. He'll also try to find some consistency after a string of good start, bad start in his first four games and lower that 5.89 ERA.

Riggleman changes up the lineup a bit, giving Martinez and Orie the starts today with the night game last night. I mean, it's just one game, what could possibly happen? Blauser is spared a benching despite the the 3-week slump he's currently making us witness. Sammy Sosa's offseason training regiment has paid off well to this point , a nearly 1.000 OPS to this point and now the home runs are coming in bunches.

Go Cubs!

Can we get Kevin Orie out of there, please? His 496 OPS is fucking killing us. Jeez, and you give Servais a day off, too?

The bottom of our order is terrible. Henry's struggling. Blauser's miserable. Martinez has NEVER been good.

God, I hope Kerry pitches well today. Need to get this long homestand going here.

amazing what doubling your payroll 10 years later can buy.

You got your pitchers reversed.

Speaking on ITunes, whatever that is, check out this new computer:

That's gotta be bad luck. Smooth move, Rob.

Fixed.

it wouldn't be a game preview if I didn't screw up the lineups or something...

19.0MB of 1.5GB - 3 hours remaining

All that, and it's the Houston broadcast? Grrr...

"the sandberg game" is on MLB Network.

The killer B's are going to eat the rookie's lunch.

He sucked last week when I saw in L.A.

Gave up a cheap grand slam to Piazza.

noticed something odd...top 10th, Lee Smith on the mound vs Ozzie Smith, 0-2 count

Ozzie hits a foul fly to the LF bullpen area where a fan reaches out for the ball and Sarge Matthews just misses it reaching into the stands as the fan reaches and deflects it. Matthews pounded his fist into his glove afterward which was demonstrative of frustration although not quite as intensely as Alou was. Tony Kubek said when Matthews reached into the stands it was "fair game" as long as the fan didn't reach onto the field (appropriate commentary for national tv).

It wasn't Steve Bartman who deflected it but there was a sense of deja vu (is there pre-deja vu?)

that lead to a 2 run inning, 11-9 cardinals going into the bottom 10th.

bottom 10th, Bowa and Hebner ground out...Costas giving the credits to wrap it up

Dernier up, 3-2 count

This was about the time when my kids said, "But I thought the Cubs won."

"Just keep watching," I said. "Just keep watching."

Ricky Guiterrez.... never liked that dude.

In non-baseball news, I'm already sick of this Monica Lewinsky thing.

Also, there are rumors that George W. Bush is thinking about running for president. After two terms of peace and prosperity under the Democrats, there's no way he'd ever beat Al Gore.

Anyone ever use this "amazon" company to buy anything?  Is this just some con?  Is it safe?

That's gold, Jerry. Gold.

Looking forward to a sea lion in the bottom of the second tonight.

Costas: our game today was produced by Ken Edmonson, directed by Bucky Guntz, Mike Weisman is the executive producer of NBC sports, coordination producer of baseball, Harry Coyle. 1-1 pitch...

Kubek (shouting in background): OH, BOY...

Costas: He hits it to deep left center...LOOK OUT, DO YOU BELIEVE IT? IT'S GONE!

11-11...on to the 11th.

Anyone start building their shelter for Y2K?

No, but I did go see the Blair Witch Project last night.

Scary stuff.

The way things are shaking out in next month's draft, I think we should take Corey Patterson.

That guy... he's going to be a superstar.

I don't know...JD Drew looks like a good college hitter. I always worry about those toolsy high schoolers.

5 tool center fielder, cannon arm, hits for power, runs like a gazelle, GREAT plate discipline he's a guarantee.

Sounds like a can't miss.

Sega is coming out with that Dreamcast September of 99, it'll put Sony and Nintendo out of business

Anyone catch that TV Nation show? Airdropping TVs over Afghanistan. HA! Funny.

I've never heard of that Taliban, but that Moore fellow is probably just looking for nothing to make something over. His show is pretty good, though...taking world events and social issues on with comedy. He should make another movie.

Damnit, I thought it was 9 Eastern, 8 central. I was racing to finish everything up and got into parachat, and didn't see anyone!

My bad. See ya in an hour.

Q: How many historians does it take to tell time?

A: No good will come of this.

It's been a long winter.

Hmm, do I want to go out and play a round of Golf with my friend Dave? It's kind of cold and looks like it might rain. But hey, being a junior in college is tough, and it's not every day that you have a chance to go golfing... And it's not like I'll miss anything that I can't catch on Sportscenter.... Screw this, I'm going to go golf.

Garrett Anderson signs with Braves.

McGwire may already have 12 HR, but he's gonna choke down the stretch. I say he doesn't break 55. Griffey will probably be close to him, but Sosa will be lucky to hit 45.

I wonder what kind of nutritional supplements these guys are taking. They sure seem to be in great shape!

on oscar night? really?

f all of you. i would have loved to be part of this.

fyi have you heard of this Ricky Martin guy.

  • He's had so few save opportunities that it might be difficult for him to get the All Star nod but Rondon has an absolutely ridiculous 1.05 ERA and 1.06 FIP after this game so far (and I think his worst outing was in the 10th inning non save situation) so I do absolutely think he is worth considering.

  • wood(4)/grimm/strop/rondon combine for 7ip 0h 0bb 8K

    nasty.

  • And stay off the keyboard too

  • Depends how long he'd be gone but if not too long I would assume they'll use Wood or Cahill and limit them to 4 or 5 innings and call up a reliever to use in the bullpen.

  • hopefully it's a carlos-zambrano-special and he just needs to drink more water and less coffee+redbull before starts.

  • Assuming Hammel needs some DL time for the hammy, who do the Cubs call up: Glasnow or Taillon? Too many starting pitching prospects at Iowa to choose from.

Eric S 7 hours 6 min ago view
  • "cramping in right hamstring" according to the booth.

btw, it was his left hamstring that was injured last year.

crunch 7 hours 8 min ago view
  • hammel is injured and done..."leg cramp" or some other leg issue...was down behind the mound coming back from commercial and seemed to have injured himself warming up on the mound between innings.

crunch 7 hours 30 min ago view
  • heyward with a bit of starlin castro disease...you're great D dude, but you can't range 200ft in all directions even if you're playing CF.

that said, he almost had it...though zobrist or baez should have had it if heyward wasn't coming on at 100mph.

hammel is quite wild today even if he got the first 2 outs on Ks that were result of swinging through stuff not in the zone.
