2015 Draft Pick Race
Updated through 9/14/14 - 13 games left for Cubs.
For failing to sign top overall pick Brady Aiken, the Houston Astros will get the 2nd pick in next year's draft on top of their regular pick. The teams with the 10 worst records have their first round pick protected if they signed a qualified free agent this offseason.
It seems to me there have been two types of managers in recent Cubs history...fully-formed and set-in-their-ways guys (Riggleman, Baylor, Baker, Piniella), and bumbling newcomers who got let go before we could see if they learned from their mistakes (Quade, Sveum). Maybe Riggleman moved from the newcomer to established mode with the Cubs but that was long enough ago I can't remember it very well. Ricky R fits the newcomer who does some bumbling mode, I think it will be interesting to see if/how he develops over the next couple of seasons and how much grace he gets from Theo and Jed.
