So, all of the fretting about Jae-Hoon Ha getting drafted was all for nothing; perhaps not as highly valued by other organizations as some thought. And Loosen and Hatley didn't get taken either, despite them being on all of the preview lists. And Carlos Pimentel wasn't taken either.
So they lost Mateo, which will be annoying if he turns out well and the Cubs overspend to get bullpen help, but history of the Rule 5 suggests that likelihood is low.
I wouldn't give a team that's losing 90 games a year a great TV deal if I'm a broadcast exec. I doubt there's a queue outside the door right now. These are business people not baseball fans. The promise of young talent is only that. In the eyes of business people who are doing investment cost analysis, the prospects are invisible. So I guess the gamble is that ALL these young players are going to blossom and then some TV execs are going to hand the Cubs keys to the vault? Color me skeptical.
