Dempster Decides He's Rich Enough

UPDATE: Apparently this was old news, or at least in that the Dempster agreed to this awhile back according to Levine and the money was already used to sign Xavier Nady.

Ryan Dempster has pulled a rather surprising move by agreeing to defer $3M of his salary from this year over the next 3 years at little to no interest. This is according to a Ken Rosenthal tweet. I'm sure we'll get the rest of the story soon enough and see if this was just Dempster's idea or the Cubs approached him because of an impending deal.

Granted deferring $3M when you make $12.5M is like deciding between taking out the Rolls Royce or the Lamborghini for a spin, but it shall never be uttered that Ryan Dempster isn't a team player.

looks like Wells was sick this morning before making his start although he's not making any excuses. Did seem like a pretty quick hook just because, besides the first 2 hits, the rest were just seeing-eye grounders.

Yeah--looked a lot like a bad first inning for a guy who pitches toward contact. Not like pulling him hurt the team at all, though.

If Russell goes down to AAA when they call up Cashner, I wonder whether they'll let him start.

some nobody named Ottavino starts tomorrow to shut out the Cubs against Silva.

Demp vs. Wainwright on Sunday

some THTfantasy guy suggested these trades:

know how to make the Cubs good. Trade Silva for Sherrill or Harden+Frank Francisco. Then, Theriot to the Angels for Kevin Jepsen. -GROSS

Gross is right!!!! (high fives self)

apparently he was detained because they thought he was Andy McFail

So after the Cubs wasted the bullpen today here is a idea.

Send Russell down as a starter.

call up Cashner for pen on saturday why not he will be here within next week
if not saturday.

i would think Castro has day off on sunday.

Can they send Grabow down Arizona Phil's way instead?

Any chance we could convert Grabow to Catcher?

Maybe Dempster said something like, "Grabow sucks. How much money do you need me to give up so that you let that guy go?"

Fukudome, Theriot, Lee, Soriano, Byrd, Fontenot, Soto, Castro, Silva

Lopez, Ludwick, Pujols, Holliday, Rasmus, Freese, Molina, Schumaker, Ottavino

lookie at all the hard earned at bats Colvin is getting...

ARam? Can Chad Tracy be far behind?

and the followup tweet to Muskat's lineup tweet...

aramis ramirez sidelined as team tries to figure out way he can hit without pain left thumb
I'm thinking he's got a damaged ulnar collateral ligament (aka gamekeeper's thumb) of the thumb but haven't heard of any MRI being done on ARam, and a cortisone shot (which he did get) isn't usually done for a ligament injury (most commonly for a trigger thumb)

trigger thumb...

UCL thumb...'s_thumb

If you recall, the initial reports of the injury said he hurt his thumb swinging the bat. If so, that's one effed up swing he's got right now. No way to fix the thumb and hit at the same time.

aram usually doesn't let go of the bat with his top (right) hand when he swings like some helps him keep his bat stable through the zone and from overswinging.

he puts a lot of pressure on the inside of where the thumb webbing is (and parts underneath). it'd only take 1 "wrong swing" to make it sore...or repetition injury keeping it inflamed. given his numbers i imagine he's been taking a lot more extra BP than he's used to.

the lesson to be learned is to boycott BP.
