It was the worst most awesome game that you've ever seen, and somehow they pulled it out.
Now let's build up those frequent flyer miles!

Cubs @ Nationals: Hendricks vs ? (NLDS Game 5)
CHC (2-2): RHP Kyle Hendricks (1-0, 0.00)
WAS (2-2): ?HP (?-?, ?)
First pitch: 7:00pmCST (TBS)
Lester picked off a baserunner, but other than that, Game Four was a steaming pile of shit. Now the Cubs are facing elimination and on the road—against a phantom pitcher.
Reds @ Cubs: McGuire vs Montgomery (Game 162)
CIN (82-78): RHP Deck McGuire (0-1, 4.15)
CHC (92-69): LHP Mike Montgomery (7-8, 3.45)
First pitch: 2:20pmCST
The Cubs pass that shify (and non-prime) 91 and Scherzer cramps up. It's never nice to be happy about injuries, but this one seems minor and could be well timed...
Reds @ Cubs: Stephens vs Lester (Game 161)
CIN (82-77): RHP Jackson Stephens (2-0, 3.86)
CHC (91-69): LHP Jon Lester (12-8, 4.46)
First pitch: 3:05pmCST
Lester rebounded from whatever that was in Tampa Bay to beat the Cards on Monday, giving up 1 ER in 6 innings. In three 2017 starts, he’s 1-0 with a 10.13 against the Reds. Overall, they are 46-166 (.277) against him. Hamilton is 7-17 with 2 HR, and Suarez is 8-25 with 2 HR.

Reds @ Cubs: Stephenson vs Quintana (Game 160)
CIN (82-76): RHP Robert Stephenson (5-6, 4.86)
CHC (90-69): LHP José Quintana (11-11, 4.06)
First pitch: 1:20pmCST
Eliminating your historic rival from the post-season with your B-team the day after clinching the division: priceless.
After that dreadful weekend against the Brewers, the Cubs have gone 13-3, including last night’s knock-out of the rather-lifeless Cardinals. (Matheny looked concussed and/or constipated.) The Cubs are getting hot (read: shaking off their Series hangover) at exactly the right time.
Cubs @ Cardinals: Hendricks vs Lynn (Game 159)
CHC (89-69): RHP Kyle Hendricks (7-5, 3.14)
STL (82-76): RHP Lance Lynn (11-8, 3.47)
First pitch: 6:15pmCST
Congratulations to the Cubs on their second straight division title and third consecutive trip to the post-season. If it hadn’t been for the previous 100+ years, we could get very used to this.
Cubs @ Cardinals: Lackey vs Wacha (Game 158)
CHC (88-69): RHPJohn Lackey (11-11, 4.67)
STL (82-75): RHP Michael Wacha (12-8, 4.00)
First pitch: 6:00pmCST
Oh, good—another game on ESPN.*
Cubs @ Cardinals: Arrieta vs Martinez (Game 157)
CHC (88-68): RHP Jake Arrieta (14-9, 3.43)
STL (81-75): RHP Carlos Martinez (12-11, 3.63)
First pitch: 7:00pmCST
You can run around in a sausage costume, but you cannot hide from getting eliminated from the NL Central, Brewers… Today is the day.
Cubs @ Cardinals: Lester vs Weaver (Game 156)
CHC (87-68): LHP Jon Lester (11-8, 4.56)
STL (81-74): RHP Luke Weaver (7-1, 2.05)
First pitch: 7:15pmCST
Lester didn’t have it on Wednesday, giving up 7 ER in 4.1 innings in Tampa. He’s 1-1 with a 3.28 in his three starts against the Cards this season. Overall, they are 38-171 (.222) against him. Molina is 12-32 with a HR.
Cubs @ Brewers: Quintana vs Anderson (Game 155)
CHC (86-68): LHP José Quintana (10-11, 4,27)
MIL (82-73): RHP Chase Anderson (11-3, 2.74)
First pitch: 12:05pmCST
Quintana had a no-decision against St. Louis on Sunday, giving up 3 ER in 5.2 innings. He lost in Milwaukee in July (6 IP, 2 ER, 6 K, 3 BB). Overall, the Brewers are 12-56 (.214) against him. Villar is 3-6.

I would say also in the bright side column is Busch looked pretty good overall at the plate. Alzolay…man, that hurts but most of the time he’s not giving up a homer to that guy. To me the worst was almonte hanging that pitch to Garcia. He hung another one to the next hitter too and got away with it on an 0-1.

amaya blocked like 6-8 of smyly's pitches in the dirt very cleanly...not even an exaggeration, smyly threw a ton of pitches bouncing in tonight.
neris looking like his old self was a relief (no pun), too.

In looking for bright spots the defense was outstanding tonight. The “stars” are going to need to shine quite a bit brighter than they did tonight offensively though for this to be a successful season.

Good baseball game. Hopefully Steele is pitching again in April (but I’m not counting on it).

boo.

smyly to face the 2/3/4 hitters with a man on 2nd in extras.
this doesn't seem like a 8 million dollar managerial decision.

i 100% agree with you, but i dunno how jed wants to run things. the default is delay. i would choose brown.
like hellfrozeover says, could be smyly since he's technically fresh and stretched.
anyway, on a pure talent basis....brown is the best option.

Use pitchers when you believe they're good. Don't plan their clock.
I'm sorry. I'm simply anti-clock/contract management. Play guys when they show real MLB potential talent.
If Brown hadn't been hurt with the Lat Strain he would've gotten the call, and not Wick.
Give him a chance.
But Wesneski probably gets it
