Tues Funnies. Just...sharing my Cubs angst.

Edgar Gonzalez, Matt Tolbert, and Trever Miller all in the same day? Yeah, it's just the beginning of price-paying for you and me as our favorite team attempts to claw out of their 104 year old hole. Seriously though, everything's gonna work out just fine, right? Just a little angst now and then. I'll deal with it by drawing.

The Yoenis Cespedas video. What an athlete!

You guys heard about this superstar Cuban outfielder guy, right? Yoenis Cespedas? And I'm sure you read that the Cubs are Yoenis Cespedas' leading suitor. Anyway, the other day I was driving around listening to The Score, and heard about this legendary Cespedas video. Dan Bernstein was saying that it apparently showed what an amazing, freak athlete this Cespedas guy is - that he reminded people of Bo Jackson. But also that mysteriously, You Tube had taken it down. Well, I went to You Tube and...they musta decided to put it back up because you can find it there! Only, it's over 20 minutes long

My secret Cub Fan reason for loving the Anthony Rizzo for Andrew Cashner trade

So the Cubs traded flamethrowing Andrew Cashner for a real first base prospect, Anthony Rizzo of the Padres Sure, young Andrew has tremendous potential. Last year, he was one third of the whole reason we were supposed to be excited about the Cubs. The other two thirds...

We're finding out that there is no Santa.

When I came up with this little animated gif, I was actually gagging on Cubs Depression after reading MLBTR's "Complete and Total Rebuild" post. But I got over it. The gif is supposed to illustrate what our Cub brains have been fed in the past off-seasons... A Box 'o Rocks wrapped in something shiny (thanks Crunch) like: "The Three C's: Castro, Cashner & Colvin!" or "Getting Left Handed Will Get Us To The Series!" (Okay, maybe nothing shiny about the "Left Handed" thing, but you know what I mean.) This off season is SO different. No one from the Cubs front office is saying, "2012 is gonna be

Plate Discipline: Colvin vs. DeJesus

Well, it looks like if you're gonna be a Chicago Cub any more, you better learn plate discipline. A little patience. Make the pitcher work. That kinda stuff. Tyler Colvin, he can hit a homer once in awhile, but he ain't no walker. David DeJesus on the other hand, has 359 walks in his 3797 career at-bats. Young Tyler, he's got 46 in his 581 career at-bats. If you pro Tyler's 581 at-bats to 3797, his walks project to about 300. (That's me doing math, so as always there's a giant chance it's wrong, but whatever.) So very roughly, Tyler is about half the walker David is. Now, is David a top walker

Mid-week funnies: if the Cubs were on South Park

If you're a "South Park" fan, hopefully you get a laugh here. Yeah, the collective dislike and bashing of Cub Suit Crane Kenney is pretty old news, but this cartoon just popped in my head. Of course, it would be awesome if this gif had an accompanying story about Kenney actually being dismissed or moving on, but that didn't happen. What's really going on? Why, the Cubs will interview Mike Maddux for their manager job. Lets see what happens...

That Matt Holliday is sure some kind of gamer!

You were wondering too.
"What's the matter with Napoli?"
He's rolling around on the ground for no reason whatso...
Then they showed the replay.
DID YOU SEE HOW FAR HIS ANKLE BENT?
Oh my GOD!
I fell off the couch making dog noises.
Just get a freaking stretcher and have a surgeon re-attach his foot.

Sunday Gif Funnies: Only Dicks do the wave at Wrigley

So it's the 9th inning of an admittedly meaningless, end of the season game.
The 22-games-out Cubs are beating the 100-loss Houston Astros two to one.
This is nothing, right?
But if you actually paid money to get in the game, this is hopefully why you came:
Sean Marshall's on the mound with his wicked hook, the bases are loaded with Astros and there's only one out - it's all the baseball drama you could hope for.
But as Crunch pointed out yesterday, there in the background are Cub fans gleefully doing the wave.

steele MRI on friday.  counsell expects an IL stint.

no current plans for his rotation replacement.

I would say also in the bright side column is Busch looked pretty good overall at the plate. Alzolay…man, that hurts but most of the time he’s not giving up a homer to that guy. To me the worst was almonte hanging that pitch to Garcia. He hung another one to the next hitter too and got away with it on an 0-1.

amaya blocked like 6-8 of smyly's pitches in the dirt very cleanly...not even an exaggeration, smyly threw a ton of pitches bouncing in tonight.

neris looking like his old self was a relief (no pun), too.

In looking for bright spots the defense was outstanding tonight. The “stars” are going to need to shine quite a bit brighter than they did tonight offensively though for this to be a successful season.

Good baseball game. Hopefully Steele is pitching again in April (but I’m not counting on it).

    boo.

smyly to face the 2/3/4 hitters with a man on 2nd in extras.

this doesn't seem like a 8 million dollar managerial decision.

i 100% agree with you, but i dunno how jed wants to run things.  the default is delay.  i would choose brown.

like hellfrozeover says, could be smyly since he's technically fresh and stretched.

anyway, on a pure talent basis....brown is the best option.

Use pitchers when you believe they're good. Don't plan their clock.

I'm sorry. I'm simply anti-clock/contract management. Play guys when they show real MLB potential talent.

If Brown hadn't been hurt with the Lat Strain he would've gotten the call, and not Wick.

    Give him a chance.

    But Wesneski probably gets it
