Game 105 Thread / Phillies @ Cubs (2 of 4)

Game Chat Adam Eaton vs. Jason Marquis

Comments

This lineup makes me sick. Dissing the lineup stopped working last week.

This is going to be one of 22-17 Cubs/Phillies games, both pitchers suck and i imagine given the hudmity the winds is blowing out. Odd lineup for Philly having Dobbs lead off. Id would have gone Rowand and put Burrell 5th and Dobbs 6th.

Someone point JJ at the ball, please. He lost the ball in the sky/lights... it happens to the best of them.

and Jones strikes out on three pitches with the bags loaded and one out. must have lost the ball in the lights happens to the best of them

Phillies pitcher was hit in the leg by a Ramirez hit that went to the first baseman who made the out.

and Jones strikes out on three pitches with the bags loaded and one out. Funny... didn't hear you say anything about JJ's 2-run double...

Well, technically it was a 1-run double and the second run scored on a error. Maybe it was only a single too, not sure.

Yea... it was a double with one RBI and the second run scored on the error. But still - it is ridiculous that people on here will attack JJ for a strikeout and completely ignore his double. Or attack him for losing a ball in the lights/sky and completely ignore several other good defensive skills.

Ah, at least JJ seems to be getting some confidence back. I don't groan when I see him in the lineup anymore. What's really ridiculous is this Mets-Brewers game. Going into the 12th now tied at 2-2. I know I won't be able to go to bed until it's over, one way or the other.

and it's over Jeff Geokins with a 2 run blast to keep the Brewers in first. When do we play them again? Cubs need to TCB themselves, it seems.

Can we give it up for Jason Marquis. He got the job done and probably would have only given up 2 runs if not for Jock's understandable? forgivable? misplay. And great work Will Ohman, Carlos Marmol and Bobby Howry.

I'll give it up for Marquis.....nice job, he's been more than we could have hoped for this year.

I don't have to give it up for Marquis, since I defended him after his last, horrible, start. If he can keep the groundballs flowing, he will be fine. And if he's fine, it's hard to believe the Cubs won't take the division, and may even chase down the Mets for HF advantage in the NL playoffs. That is if no one gets hurt. Of course there was some Dustyism going on as Murton sat on the bench last night. I could have done without that. It makes Piniella look stupid, there's no other word for it. Remember when everyone thought that Murton would platoon with Floyd - but get starts against right handers? Pinheadiella cannot even get Murton back to back starts against left handers.

Of course there was some Dustyism going on as Murton sat on the bench last night. They were facing a rhp, so it would make sense to have Floyd in there. Do you expect Murton to play every day?

whoops, thought that was Moyer last night. I will hold off on the official Dusty comparison until tonights (why?) lineup is announced.

whoops, thought that was Moyer last night. Yea... I made the same mistake yesterday. I would expect Murton to start tonight with Pagan on center.

#22 chadster- my reverse curse in number 6 apparently worked. hooray marquis! am now trying to prepare a similar incantation for the s&p 500. * * * * * * * 1 run vs hamels monday. 7 runs vs a variety tuesday. will the real cubs please stand up? * * * * * * * jones is neither the problem nor the solution. i'd rather see pie; it just aint gonna happen.

1 run vs hamels monday. 7 runs vs a variety tuesday. will the real cubs please stand up? I don't think it has much to do with the "real cubs." It has to do with the fact that Hamels is one of the best left handed pitchers in the game.

Thought it might have been David Peralta given the open 40 man spot and how PCA has played so far.

I hope they keep Mozeliak a few more years. Marmol too!

    welp...

    bellinger...fractured rib.

a not-very-ready PCA will probably be called up when it would be much better for him to be in AAA getting regular ABs.

i have no hard data, but i'm seeing the same thing.

there used to be some parks where that was rampant (colorado during the todd helton days comes to mind), but i'm seeing it all over the place the past couple seasons.

I’ll spare the details which I’ve stated before but, in short, the Cardinals have lost their sight of their successful identity and strategy over last several dominant decades. From the beginning of the season I saw the Cardinals being in last place or near it again this year, and my prediction is that Mozeliak will be gone after the end of the season.

I would have kept Cooper rather than Wisdom, but at least I can understand why they did it.  In a team that lacks dominant power hitters, Wisdom can be a dominant power hitter, at least in streaks.  I suppose that there is always the possibility that the streaks longer in both duration and frequency.  I will be content if they essentially make a 100 % DH commitment to Mervis against righties and Wisdom against lefties.  When a regular needs rest, give them total rest, rather than a DH rest.  Do this for at least 2 months, and then re-evaluate at that point.

    This is Cubs adjacent but…

Jordan Walker just was optioned by the deadbirds. For all the talk of the Cardinals development machine, they’ve really missed on a lot of can’t miss superstars lately. Walker has struggled. Gorman has been okay. They’re already trying to push Carlson out the door. Their pitching system has been so bad they had to go out and sign basically a full rotation over the last two offseasons.

They’ve still developed a few of those pesky solid players, like Donovan, Edman, and Nootbaar. Their two best prospect to MLB players have been Adolis and Arozarena, neither of which is a cardinal.

I hope they never figure it out again. Cardinal failure brings me such joy.
