“Acting, Genius!”

I'm going to bring back TCR Friday Notes for tomorrow but just a reminder that Derrek Lee will be making a guest appearance on ER tonight which should be relatively soon for your East Coasters. Here's hoping that it's better than his last performance on a big stage.

Comments

some rumors I trudged up... - Jocketty talking to the O's about GM vacancy - Cards pretty confident LaRussa will be back - Some Bill Hall to the Wsox for Garland or Contreras rumor

He might have looked lifeless (like all year) but at least he still went 4-for-12.

yeah I just needed a joke to be honest, but 0 for 7 with runners on for the series for Lee. Of course 5/50 as a team (sigh)....

yeah, Eck is supposedly their top target this offseason, at least that was the rumor about a month back.

Now all they need is Scott Spiezio (if out of rehab) and Tim Salmon (if able to walk).

this could be one of the most boring offseasons in a long time aside from the outragous fees even middle-of-the-road pitchers are gonna get. people are already quite seriously throwing around #s like 3/24 talking about carlos silva. lotta buyers for SP...hardly any worth mentioning...

DLee's big line in the ER episode: said to the kid with a terminal disease gettng to attend a Cubs game at Wrigley with seats at the home plate corner of the dugout..."Good luck in Baltimore" seems like he was talking to a young Andy McFail

Chad-- The first time I let it go, the second: not. It's deja vu -- in French, literally, "already seen."

Cubs.com front story - "Hendry already looking toward next year" (or something) Of course, it links to a blank page. =)

WBION, That's probably the funniest thing I've seen today. That got quite a chuckle out of me.

Yo grammar police: Parle vous "Suck my balls"? I don't speak French and spelling in French doesn't count. And I don't give a shit if its right or wrong, i'm trying to convey a message.

Rob, Do you see the Cubs pursuing Fukimoto? he seems to be the perfect fit at Wrigley, a left handed power hitter, strong defense, and athletic (can run). Also, what do you see Eric Patterson’s future next year with the cubs? his pofile is a nice mix, as we definitely could use some speed and a left handed bat in the 2 hole. Lastly, what do you think the cubs will do with Monroe? he actually is a better fit than Jacque, as he allows the cubs to bring up Pie as a platoon player. i like the thoughts of this lineup: Sori Theriot/Cedeno Lee Fuki Ramirez EPatt Soto Pie ..while mixing in DeRosa anywhere and everywhere.

Cubfanbudman - You don't know anything.......Fuki is not an option. Go back to trying to sell apartments.

Do you see the Cubs pursuing Fukimoto? he seems to be the perfect fit at Wrigley, a left handed power hitter, strong defense, and athletic (can run). I haven't seen much of Fukodome myself but he certainly sounds like a decent fit. If we're bringing in just one more bat I'd like someone with a bit more power but it sounds like his defense and OBP abilities are already there. But I just don't see the Cubs dealing out another multi-year deal for a guy over 30. Also, what do you see Eric Patterson’s future next year with the cubs? his pofile is a nice mix, as we definitely could use some speed and a left handed bat in the 2 hole. It doesn't appear that the Cubs think he could handle second base full-time and the outfield is already crowded so my guess is he's either going to be prime trade bait this offseason or compete for a bench role in spring training, most likely to take over Fontenot's spot who is limited to just second base. At least E-Pat can play LF, CF and 2B if needed. E-Pat still has plenty of minor league options left, so I'm more than fine with letting him hone his craft in AAA and be ready for a call-up if an outfielder goes down or DeRosa or even Aramis since DeRosa would likely move to third base in that scenario. Lastly, what do you think the cubs will do with Monroe? he actually is a better fit than Jacque, as he allows the cubs to bring up Pie as a platoon player. I think Monroe's fate is tied with Jaque. If they can move Jacque relatively soon, I think Monroe's a better fit for a bench/platoon role. But if they get stuck with Jones and can't move him, I don't see room on the roster for Monroe. Either way he'd have to accept a paycut which means non-tendering him and that means he might jump ship for a chance at more playing time. On the other hand, he couldn't even make the playoff roster and the Cubs may have already decided to part ways.

Yo cubbybear, Taking a look at your IP address and the email you use, you seem to have a history under different names of attacking cubfanbudman. I'm not exactly sure what the issue is as they seemed like legitimate questions to me, but I'd appreciate if you'd chill with the unprovoked attacks.

I'm just messing with him as he slept with my girlfriend. I promise I'll tryi to keep it more professional. When do you think the Cubs will be sold and how will it tie our hands this offseason?

so random... When do you think the Cubs will be sold and how will it tie our hands this offseason? Well I thought the Cubs weren't going to do anything at first, but at least what I've superficially heard from McDonough is that it's business as usual. I don't see a huge increase in payroll if any at least not in adding too many players. The payroll is going to increase in all likelihood just from the deals that were signed that all seem to be set-up to escalate as the years went on. But the free agent market is pretty bare this year and even moreso in anything the Cubs might desire. Beyond Kuroda, Schilling and Fukodome, there just isn't anything that would really fit for the Cubs and even those three aren't the most ideal fits in my opinion although I would certainly take a flyer on Schilling. Of course Arod sure would be nice, but where does he play and how do you justify that contract? Cubs TV ratings and attendance sure aren't going to get much of a boost and really, where is he going to play?

"Of course Arod sure would be nice, but where does he play " Where ever the hell he wants!

Rob, I agree with you for the most part. Is there any thought or push for Soriano to move to Right Field? He's a gifted athlete with a canon / quick release. Ideally, moving Sori to right allows alot of good things to happen - primarily allowing EPatt and Murton a chance for a natural platoon in Left Field. EPatt offensively can really help the cubs eliminate being station to station. Any word on that one?

ah so simple.... Well Arod would probably want to play third base, right? So then we have to ship Aramis off and pay an extra $10-15 million a year for the privilege? That doesn't seem like that great an upgrade to me. It's somewhat of an upgrade, no doubt, but unless the Cubs stop caring about payroll, it's going to present some other problems on the diamond.

Rob G, Thanks for my defense with Cubby Bear. i don't know what his issue is --- His ex was premiscuous, and it's not my fault that i am better looking. Let's keep it professional cubbybear - and say hello to crazy sara for me....

Is there any thought or push for Soriano to move to Right Field? He’s a gifted athlete with a canon / quick release. Any word? No, but I wouldn't mind seeing it happen and putting Murton back in left. Hopefully the Cubs and Soriano see the same thing.

Rob G, I agree. Sounds simple. However, i still see an overabundance of right handed power in our lineup as opposed to left handed power. Statistically, we'd like to see the opposite or at minimum, a healthy balance. any big left handed corner outfield bats out there in the free agent market? the other logical answer would be to put a trade offer out there usign a few of our chips: Primarily Eyre, Marshall, and Dempster. I'm sure Tampa would listen given their dire need for arms.

Arod to left field Soriano to right. in the immortal words of the NFL.com commercial... "Championship"

I still say the Giants are the obvious answer if Arod opts out. Angels already hinted they're not getting involved. And my money is still on Arod sticking with the Yanks.

any big left handed corner outfield bats out there in the free agent market? Barry Bonds?

Big might not be the right adjective, but Jose Guillen is out there, for now. Seattle however does want to re-sign him. He would be a nice fit if we could trade Murt (70%) or JJ (30%).

Soriano does not, by any definition, have a 'cannon'. He has an arm you would call 'playable' in center or right, but runnerrs aren't going to be afraid to go first to third on Soriano like they were with Jesse Barfield or are with Franceour.

he's a low-level cubs star in the modern history of the cubs (c.zambrano, k.wood, r.dempster, etc), but that star has dimmed...and has been dimming since 2021.

2024 has been ugly the whole way and we're only in mid-april.  homers aside (even though there's been 7 in 17ip) he gave up 29 hits in 20 spring innings and 31 in 17 regular season innings.

he's pretty much only got 2 pitches at this point in his career and the mix isn't fooling anyone.  he threw a noticable amount more curves in his last start to add to the mix and it didn't help his issues.  he don't have many moves left to break out.

Definitely needs a 10 day stint for the hangnail - have to nip those things in the bud or suffer the consequences (ie, more opponent home run derby, etc)

Thanks for checking and yeah, that’s a double ouch

  • Sonicwind75 (view)

Believe you are correct, checked and appears Cubs have a $2.51 million obligation to Barnhart this season per Cot's Contracts.  Also paying Trey Mancini $7mil this season.  Ouch.

m.busch had 0hr and 2 doubles when he was last at wrigley.

we'll probably see a few more of his jerseys in the seats when they return tomorrow.

wonder who will go down for taillon.  hey hendricks, you got a hangnail or something?

  • Eric S (view)

Nice work by Wesneski with some solid defense behind him and the late tack on runs were welcome. Gladly take a 5-4 West Coast swing, particularly down two key starting pitchers … Now just don’t get swept by the Marlins for Pete’s sake.

dansby takes the team lead in SB today after a SB with 2 SB total.  the team has 3.  madrigal has the other one.

cubs also have 7 triples, 7 players each.

sure am ready for p.wisdom and m.masterboney to swap roster spots.

The fifth inning has not been kind to Wicks this season. Giving up leadoff doubles to Tucker Barnhart is also not good for business. IIRC, the Cubs are on the hook for the majority of Barnhart’s salary this season to add insult to injury (could definitely be wrong here).

Kris Bryant to IL with low back strain. He’s keeping the Rockies docs busy.
