Wow, if we need a new goat to come to Wrigley to break the curse we might as well just get Dan Uggla. Inning-ending GIDP with a runner on third followed by back-to-back errors. You fucking bum. --edit-- Followed by taking his sweet ass time on the throw to home on what should have been a double play. God I hate this guy. --2nd edit-- Holy shit, Old Man Tejada saves Butt PlUggla with a great defensive play. Let's hope Marmol doesn't need to come anywhere near the mound tonight.

My god, that had to have been the single worst performance in All Star game history. Possibly in any game's history. He had the chance to redeem himself, and struck out with the bases loaded and one out. Then ANOTHER ERROR!!!! Buck tried to bail him out saying it was a bad bounce, but he's a fucking major leaguer. The ball hit him in the glove - he should make that play.

Props to Tejada, Martin, McLouth and most of the NL pitchers. Great outings by Z, Demp and Zeus. Pity for Uggla. Great game, but I hated the outcome. NL should've won this. Seriously.

Great All-Star Game strategy once again. Let's make absolutely certain that Puhols and Berkman have no chance to bat with the game on the line. Either this is about winning, or it's about getting all the whiny kids a chance to play in a real live al-star game. Every damn year, they can't seem to figure out which it should be. Guys like Puhols and Berkman should play the entire game. Period. Why the heck am I forced to watch Ryan Ludwick and Christian Guzman? Is this what the fans are clamoring for? More playing time for the second string? Screw you, Hurdle.

You really cant blame Hurdle for doing what everyone does. He actually held his starters in a bit longer than most managers have done in recent years. The only bad thing he did was not taking out Uggla after the 9th. He could have easily played McCann at C, Martin at 3rd and Guzman at 2nd. All of the non-Cub starters played into the 6th. Also was it just me or when TBS did the Selection Show didnt they say Valverde was on the team?

I think if they're going to keep this stupid home field advantage rule, then the manager of each team should be the manager of the team with the best record in each league at the break. Clint Hurdle has absolutely no incentive to win the game because his team isn't going to sniff the postseason. Lou may have managed the game much differently because he's got a serious vested interest in winning. --edit-- Maybe the manager of the team with best record as of 7/1 or something, just to make sure they know a little ahead of time who is going to manage.

I totally agree. If the game has to mean something, then the very best players should play until they are injured or pulled for a legitimate baseball reason, not just to get a Pirate an at-bat. And the fans choices of starters should only be a suggestion, not a rule. I like seeing everyone get their chance to play and seeing all the teams represented, but I like winning a whole lot more. If this stupid game continues to have a meaningful result, I think the fans will understand if their favorite player doesn't get in the game.

I dont think losing homefield tonight is that much of a deathblow to our chances to win the World Series. I'll take our chances of Z and Harden splitting the first 2 games and then sweeping the home games. All this really means is that I dont want want to see the Angels in the WS. There probably a better road then home team.

Well... I don't really think it matters. Once you look beyond the gaudy win-loss record at home, he hasn't pitched much worse on the road. He has had two bad games on the road, which have blown up his road ERA a bit, but he has been pretty damn good both at home AND on the road.

I think the idea of having a U. S. versus "World" format might be the better way to play the All-Star game in the 21st Century, like they do with the Futures Game. Just make it an exhibition or pagent or celebration or whatever and don't make it mean anything.

And then compare the interleague records of the two World Series teams to decide home field advantage.

I'm pretty sure the US would get destroyed every year if that were the case. I like the concept though. Maybe North America versus the World. That might skew it the other way, but at least we'd get to cheer for a winner for a change.

After thinking about it a bit more, I think the World team would have better pitching and the US team would have better hitting. You also have to factor in guys who didn't make the All Star team. - Harden - Sabathia - J Santana - Matsuzaka - F Hernandez

Yeah I thought the US team would win the World Baseball Classic too and they got handled, even by teams full of non major leaguers. Now I think being in mid-season form would help the US team a lot, but still, only about 15 of those guys on the US list would get in the game. So while the depth is perhaps better, a strong starting 9 and a few solid pitchers would make it a battle.

    Wisdom does have an option left. He can hide in Iowa if Jed DFA's someone else

    Does Brennan Davis get shown the door? I know it's too early for that, but these injuries are crunching the roster of a 12-7 team playoff demands and BDavis isn't going to help anytime soon.

    Someone has to go to add Peralta. And Canario isn't going to get to play everyday regardless of RHers or LHers. Neither is Tauchman. Also don't see PCA getting a chance over Peralta.

    If Jed does those moves:

    4 OF: Belli, Peralta, Canny, Tauch

    2 C: Gomes and Amaya

    2 DH: Cooper and Mervis

    5 INF: Busch, Nico, Dansby, Morel, Madrigal

    Little short on OF depth but two injuries will do that

    I have had the pleasure of watching some of the young A's pitchers lately (first Joe Boyle the last day of Minor League Spring Training in March, and more recently Luis Morales last week and Steven Echavarria yesterday at Extended Spring Training), and it reminds me of the Miami Marlins a couple of years ago. A really nice collection of young pitchers. It will be interesting to see what the A's will get for two years of ex-Cub Paul Blackburn at the Trade Deadline (there should be a robust market for Blackburn).

    DJL: if a pitcher is recalled to be the 27th man for a doubleheader and then is optioned back to the minors the next day, the 15-day "clock" does NOT reset. The one day call-up for the doubleheader is treated like it never happened with respect to a pitcher having to spend at least 15 days on optional assignment before he can be recalled.

    Probably the only reason David Peralta is still in the organization (he is at AAA Iowa) is to be available in case anything bad were to happen to Ian Happ (which it just did). So if Happ needs to go on the IL, the Cubs can select Peralta to play LF, DFA Wisdom (and hope he and what remains of his $2.725M salary gets claimed off waivers), and recall Mervis to platoon at DH with Cooper (with Canario / Tauchman sharing RF), at least until Suzuki and Happ are back...

    i'd just like to take a moment to express to the world i'm still pissed willson contreras is not a cub when the pricetag was 5/87m (17.5m/yr).

    it would be nice to have a legacy-type player to stick around, especially one with his leadership and the respect he gets from his peers.  cubs fans deserved more than 1 season of contreras + morel...that was gold.
