Kerry 20K Viewing Party Tonight

Join us for a little pre-preseason debachuary tonight and a final farewell to Kid K in parachat. Plus the Oscars are tonight, so we can pull double duty talking about the red carpet (ZOMG, did you see what Kate Winselt was wearing?)

You have three viewing options, either you own the Chicago Cubs DVD set, Itunes for $2(search for Kerry Wood or a series called Baseball's Best) or Mlb.com(It's the Houston broadcast and you have to register and possibly been a past owner of MLB.tv). Game time is 9pm CST. With no commercials it shouldn't run more than two hours I believe and Transmission should be doing a parachat recap for tomorrow. Maybe this time we can get Kevin Orie to make the play.

Some quick notes from Mesa after the jump...

- Lou is going to ease Carlos Zambrano into their Cactus League rotation.

''There's no reason,'' he said. ''There's just no hurry.''

I'm not suppose to be worrying about his shoulder, right?

- Marmol still hasn't decided offically about the WBC, but sounds like he wants to skip it. Out of the major leaguers,  it'll just be Geovany Soto, Ted Lilly and Kosuke Fukduome missing camp. Speaking of, Fukkadome hit a grand slam yesterday in an exhibition game for Team Japan.

- Jeff Samardzija will start the Cactus League opener on Wednsesday versus the Dodgers.

Hope to see some of you tonight in parachat.

Comments

I'm not sure if anybody has mentioned it or not, but MLB Network's "30 Teams in 30 Days" series will cover the Cubs on March 10th.

Yeah, I'm on the recap....

Won't be there, alas, as I have an early morning over here in GMT+1, but for the record, and to get things started,

Trans, you suck.

Andrew sent sound: bomb

You know, I don't post much here but I read a lot of you guyses comments and I am amazed at the intelligence and humor here, but, and I'm sorry to say this, you're all a bunch of morans (spelled like how Cardinal fans spell it). I mean, shit, dudes, let it go. Oh boy, here come the flames. Hey, it's Sunday, and this place needs a little controversy. So, I say again, let it go. Spend some time with the fucking kids or something. Sheesh.

And we've met our judgment quota for the week. Thanks for lending a hand.

Relax, I'm just having fun.

Sorry. My irony radar is not internet compatible.

my kids will probably watch the game with me...

at least until they get bored of it.

Well, on a more serious note, even though I won't be able to watch tonight, it's good info -- I didn't know the game is available via itunes, so thanks for that. And for those of you who actually took me seriously (a distinct minority, I'm sure)? Relax.

How old are you and you spend your time hanging around on a message board with guys mostly in their 20s and 30s?

Pot...kettle...black

That's a damn good point. I suppose it's cuz I wanna know why they're always asking us old guys for money.

what's more Cubbery than picking out an old gem of an ex player from a "lost season" to mull over while ignoring awards for Batman Part 6: That One With the Junkie in It and Not-Quite Bollywood Quiz Show Minus Redford?

also, i'd have to go make some kids before i spent time with them and i definitely would pass up a recap of a 10 year old game for that.

or i guess i could say...

we got...nothing better to do...than watch tv...and drink a couple of brews!

New theory: Old and Blue = Silent Towel, plastered.

P.S. Crunch: rockin' reference ^^^

For the record...

I will be wearing my Oscar gown while watching the game.

in honor of the Academy Awards concurrently going on with tonight's 20K performance, I wanted to re-write the script a bit for a terrific movie that hopefully will get a lot of attention tonight...Slumdog Millionaire

The final question should have been: Name the Chicago Cubs current 3rd baseman:

a.) Aramis c.) Cardenal Richelieu
b.) D'Artagnan d.) Planchet

-----
p.s. I thought Porthos was Captain Archer's beagle

SDM: gotta love the technique used to get an autograph when in a big crowd

I don't know what a masterpiee is, but I assume it's pronounced "master pee", and that doesn't sound like something I need to be in Parachat for.

Also, I just like to make fun of your spelling because there's somebody else I can kinda relate to. We all know I type like a special needs child.

whoops...

c.) Cardenal Richelieu

everyone watching that show knew that he played the OF for the Cubs from 72-77

http://www.baseball-reference.com/c/cardejo02.shtml

P.S. - game was only 2:19, so minus commercials shouldn't go more than 1:45 I'm guessing.

So, what happens in this game and why are we gathering to watch it? Kerry Woods earns $20,000 dollars? I thought he was paid much more then that...

How long do you think this internet thing is going to last? Anyone else preparing the Y2K? I've started building a bunker in my backyard.

How does the sync-up work? Should I just hit play right at 9 CST, or is there a parachat-based starting pistol?

pretty much, just hit play at 9pm cst, you can always resync as the game goes on or the half innings. The DVD has chapter marks at each half inning.

  • been like that everytime I've been there too including Jack Murphy/Qualcomm Stadium. Cubs travel well. It was pretty loud for Angels/Cubs this year and decent for Dodgers/Cubs but Dodger fans definitely turn out better than the Padre fans.

  • When I went in the 2007-2008 range, it was at least 75% Cubs fans.

  • Jeff Sullivan on Kris Bryant's lack of clutch hitting in 2016. Very good stuff, unsatisfying conclusion (it's probably random).

  • I was at Tuesday's game in San Diego. It looked like half of Chicago was at Petco. We were much louder than Padres fans.

  • We may have a chance to catch one in October. Although hell, I couldn't deal with my co-workers if we lose to them.

  • think I have to miss this series too (also was at the Arrieta game last year). But in my case, just had a busy weekend with work and kids have a bunch of activities and we made it to Opening Day in Anaheim and a couple of games in Wrigley this year which we normally don't get too...so not feeling like I'm missing out this year.

  • they're awful

  • I hope the Cubs play three good teams.

  • First year I'm not going to a Cubs/Dodgers game in a long time. 4 month old baby kinda changes plans around. But the no-hitter I was at last year can last in the memory banks for awhile.

I think Dodger Dogs are awful. I love hot dogs, but those are crap.

  • ayyyy...get a doyer dog, then.

  • I'm going to be at this one! Am told a Dodger Dog is just a long hot dog. Disappointing.

  • If my math is correct, if the Cubs play .500 baseball for the rest of the season, they will finish with 99 wins. I only just confirmed through Baseball Reference that 97 wins last year (and 2008) were the most Cubs wins in my lifetime. I think that last year while Arrieta was pitching better than Cy F. Young I didn't really get or appreciate what he was doing. I'm trying to try to grasp in the moment just how fucking remarkable this season is.

(CSN Chicago will air Vin Scully's call of the Sunday Cubs vs. Dodgers game...well for an inning at least)

  • I figured this was going to be the most meaningless regular season in Cubs history...and it is pretty much on point, although I certainly didn't think we'd have close to a 14 game lead.

But, one bad hop in game 1 in October could change absolutely everything we will remember about this year.

  • oh he's great, there's like 10 great pitchers in the NL right now that can flat out dominate though. Picking #2 (behind Kershaw) doesn't matter much to me right now. Much like whom the Cubs will play in the playoffs won't matter much, they're gonna be good teams.

Rob G. 7 hours 52 min ago view
  • The Cubs great pitching has a lot more to do with their great defense this year and plenty of good luck  (#1 in ERA, #4 in FIP behind Nats, Mets and Dodgers with a rather ridiculous .258 BABIP against Cubs' pitchers).

Cubs pitchers do strike out more hitters than Giants pitchers and do walk more hitters than Giants pitchers so that's a few more balls in play. Cubs' pitchers actually have a higher groundball rate though. Crawford is just really good and baseball happens.
