Gameday Open Thread/Rangers @ Cubs

The Rangers travel to Mesa and Sean Marshall has another audition for the 5th starter spot.  Milton Bradley is playing right field as well and batting fourth. Matt Harrison goes for the Rangers.

Please take a moment today or tomorrow to vote on the best Cubs Season Ever.

Nice lineup construction for the Dominican by Felipe Alou today.

With all the exceptional big league talent on that roster - your 3rd place hitter is none other than career 264/364/445 Fernando Tatis.

according to mlb at-bat lite

Sean Marshall pitched 4 strong innings with no runs, 2 hits

Vizcaino in the 5th...

2-0 Cubs, single runs in the 2nd and 3rd.

Sean Marshall really wants that 5th starter job...

4 IP, 3 K, 2 H, 0 BB...

your move Aaron Heilman.

saw this in rotoworld...

Skip Schumaker made his second and third errors at second base while playing five innings in Sunday's game. He nearly got Albert Pujols hurt in a collision at first base by making a bad relay throw on a double-play ball.

the real Looey Vizcaino is in there pitching today...bases loaded, 2 outs, single, tie game.

Stanton loogys looey out of the inning, 2-2 end 5th.

Jose Ascanio strikes out the side in the 6th!

ARo-d now having surgery on monday in Vail, CO (Madonna likes the shopping in Vail?)...apparently the are giving him the short term fix and he'll get a more extensive procedure after the season.
-----
"The procedure will correct a torn labrum and will address some of the underlying bone irregularity in the hip, Dr. Marc Philippon said in a conference call, but Rodriguez will probably need more extensive surgery after the season."

Cotts in the 7th, gives up a single but strikes out the side.

Bad Chad Fox in the 8th...walks 2, rbi single to Byrd. 3-2 Rangers

Dominican team seems angry about yesterday's loss. 6-0 over PANAMA! (sung like the Van Halen song) in the 6th.

8th inning two out rally, Hoffpauir singles, Fox walks on a 3-2 pitch...

Rivas (Koskie would look pretty good right about here), 3 outs.

Kind of difficult to juxtapose D Lee '05, in which we watched intimately, with Mordecai Brown in 1906.

"We are going to close comments on the poll and ask that you wait until
Tuesday when we'll have a full post up on this to discuss."

It looks like we have a young crowd voting on the best season of all time. All the top votes are seasons within the last 10 years. I would also like to vote to remove Mark Prior form the list for being a big pussy. All in favor, reply with an "aye"

Aye...Mark Roastbeefcurtains Prior

I'll be very curious to see if the new NYC ballparks are sold out much this year.

Parachat for USA/Venezuela?

DeRosa with a 2-run triple gives USA the lead...

  • Yep...sort of. Matheny says Rosenthal will no longer pitch the 9th, and they will mix/match Oh, Siegrist and Broxton.

  • Duane Underwood now 0-5 with a 5.44 ERA for Tenn. Urp. Warren not sharp at Iowa tonight. When will Cease and Hudson be ready?

On a positive note, Jiminez with his 10th HR tonight. He has a .924 OPS -- the only player in the league with an OPS over .900. Leads the lead in 2B, SLG and OPS, tied for the league lead in HR and 3rd in Avg. Nice!

  • - The pressure of going for the regular-season wins record is now gone.
    - Joe will come up with more wacky dress-up ideas for the team to wear after they lose their next get-away game.
    - There is more clarity on Spencer Patton.
    - We play the Reds next. They aren't very good.
    - We'll have at least a 9 game lead after today.
EDIT: - Contreras looks like the real deal.

Other than that, not much -- nasty stretch. Two ugly losses in the last 4 games.
Ugh -- give Lackey a 4-1 lead, you hope for better.

  • Time to scrap the scouting report on Justin Bour and get a new one. Sheesh.

  • Contreras seems pretty adamant he'll play anywhere Madden wants him to so as long as he stays hot and with all the injuries it'll be pretty nice to have yet another bat Madden can move around.
