Cubs Finish Off Perfect Road Trip

The Cubs finish off the road trip a perfect 0-6, scoring a grand total of five runs in those six games and are now 21-21 on the season. $140 million doesn't buy what it use to in this crazy world.

Why the Cubs Lost:  Because God hates the Cubs and all their fans.

Ted Lilly pitched...not particularly good or bad, but he pitched, giving up five runs in his 6.1 IP. Aaron Heilman came in to try and bail him out in the seventh with a man on third and one out and struck out Scott Hairston. This would be when I remarked in Parachat that he'll still end up letting the run in and after intentionally walking Adrian Gonzales, Heilman hung a slider to Kevin Kouzmanoff and three runs later, the game was completely out of reach.

The offense sputtered along once again with no baserunners until a Mike Fontenot single in the fifth with two outs. They manage to mount a few rallies in the upcoming innings that predicatbly fizzled out including a sharp two-out grounder by Ryan Theriot up the middle that Chris Young kicked to the second baseman that would have scored a run. Reed Johnson did knock a meatball into the front row in left field for the Cubs only two runs and the Cubs come home with their tails between their legs and hoping the Friendly Confines live up to their name.

The only good news right now is that it looks like they will still only be 4 games out after losing 7 in a row. This has gotten mighty ugly, mighty fast, but stranger things have happened then the Cubs suddenly playing decent baseball after looking horrible for a week. I'm not giving up yet.

For me, at this point forward it is on Lou. This is what we pay him for right here. He's done all the typical manager tricks to try to get them going, now its time to go above and beyond. They don't know their place on this team and Lou has to show them. Aramis is gone, and they've had nics and cuts, but that isn't the whole thing at this point. The next two weeks we'll see what Lou is made of. Time for another umpire charge? That's the only manager's trick he hasn't pulled out this year yet. Should've done it 7 times already. If Lou doesn't REALLY want it....

Thinking about it more, sans Lou punching out a Card fan, an Illinois Democrat, or an ump, they should bring Fox up and bench Derek and boardgamehead until Jake and Micah stop hitting. But I don't know crap and I'm just frustrated because this team should be a team and it should win. Lou's the manager. Is the uncertain ownership crap being delayed by federal investigations really this much of a drain on them? Please start winning.

Well, Foxie made an error @ 1B yesterday but did extend his hitting streak to 16...gonna go to the holiday matinee today & watch the minor millionaire duel ex-Cub/current River Cat Sean Gallagher; will let you know what I see there - take a moment of silence in the spirit of the occasion sometime today...

three things from my perspective: 1.) I was much more terrified about our bullpen than our bats (and I still am terrified about our bullpen, but looks like we may not be competitive enough to get late enough in the game for it to matter.) I honestly don't know what Hendry was thinking bringing in so many new arms. And unproven arms as well. Pure potential at best . . . and aging potential too which is just plain stupid. 2.) Much of this year's trouble at the plate in my opinion can be traced to LOU's bullcrap excuse making in the playoffs regarding needing left handed bats. That is not why we lost in the playoffs, Lou . . . 3.) BUT somehow Hendry buckles to that excuse making and brings in weak hitting left handed bats. Obviously injuries and mysteries and aging have accounted for the real outtage (ARam, Soto, Lee, Milt, etc.) but this team is considerably weaker at the plate and and particularly in the bullpen. I am not sure if a firesale is the fix. But I am sure Hendry won't do that. What he will do is try and get a budget superstar (whether it's a oft injured free agent or a guy who is on the verge of retirement - Hendry will find a NAME that is cheap.). But clearly we need more than that. Also I will now go on record of saying that it is impossible for the Cubs to win it all with Lou. We need someone more progressive.

A firesale isn't the fix for THIS year, but it's probably the team's best hope for a decent future. However. Do I trust Hendry to even know what kind of prospects to acquire? At this point, I do not. I'd like to see some young, fresh blood up and down the organization. From the GM on down. Honestly I wasn't all that shocked that last year's team played cream puff baseball in the playoffs. They played over their heads all year (except for the pitching). Last year's working the count magic was obviously a fluke. It's never been who this team is. It was a miracle that they did something they had never done before. This year, they're doing what they always do. Plus, now they're a target. Teams this year have their A game on, even the mediocre ones, when they play the Cubs. It's like a playoff game for some of them. This team couldn't play 3 games in a playoff atmosphere last year. So I'm not shocked they can't play 162 this year.

According to the Sun-Times the Cubs are looking at Kouzmanoff. Thats great but can he play 2nd base when Ramirez gets back? And I don't think the Padres would trade him anyways. Also Milton Bradley went off on MLB umps and claimed they are out to get him. Ahhhh another one of my predictions of him comes true. Throwing out the victim card and blaming everyone else but himself when he screws up. Hey the good news, if they werent out to get him before, they sure are now. Way to work those player umpire relations what with his past of spitting on them, trying to physcially assualt them, calling them racist, and just being a general asshole to them. I am sure this will win him over with the Umps.

Dunno what the Aramisless 3rd basemen have hit for us, but certainly not that well. --- http://www.suntimes.com/sports/baseball/cubs/1590239,CST-SPT-cubnt25.ar… I'm not harping for Kouzmanoff but saw this stat in today's sun-times about the Cubs 3B post-ARam and it couldn't be much more ugly. ----- Considering Cubs third basemen have gone 5-for-45 (.111) with just four RBI -- all in the same game -- since Ramirez injured his shoulder May 8, Kouzmanoff's .236 and four homers alone is an upgrade. The third-year player has 44 homers his first two seasons, including 28 outside of Petco Park, to go with a .282 career average away from San Diego.

It really bewildered me how an entire team could go into such a deep, dark batting slump all at the same time. Then I remembered how all the girls at one sorority would wind up on the same cycle and it became abundantly clear.

per WSCR... DLee and Scales out of the lineup due to flu, DLee so sick he was sent home. Marmol not available as he wife is due to deliver, he went to New York to be with her. add invisible Patton and this is a very short roster. Pray for rain.

    oh yeah, totally, i was just chiming about why i fan like i fan.

    i would like nothing more than hendricks to keep on hendricks'ing.  guys with his stuff can throw for a long, long time as long as it works.

    he velocity is actually up a minor amount this year.  it's really "damn" when a guy like him not only has gas in the tank, but it's looking like it was years ago.  he added a curve a few years ago and it helped a little bit, but he's throwing it less and less while the fb/change combo are less effective.

    CRUNCH—There is no one person in this community I’m talking about.  My remarks were not directed at you or anyone, but at a tone I’ve noticed lately. 

    You have a great, dry sense of humor and there is thought behind your comments.   You and I don’t always agree but I always understand your position.  

    Lastly, and I’ll be quiet, I agree with you on Hendricks.  We can dislike the recent performance but still love the guy.  Lots of questions about his future.

    myself, i make a good amount of outrageously unrealistic comments that are sometimes "violent"...like my recent suggestion of "pulling the bandaid off" by having hendricks throw every inning of every game until he's on the IL.

    i would hope any athlete that cares about what is written on the internet realizes how casual fans can be about treating their lives like scripted TV characters that don't have real lives.  it's not an excuse to do it, but there's a lot of it out there.

    but yeah, in real life i'm rooting for guys to have long and healthy careers even if i'm not happy with current performances...except for some guys...and i'm pretty sure i don't leave grey area for those comments...and almost all of them are not good humans whether they're playing baseball or not...

    hendricks was getting a good amount of boos in his last game.  i would bet a million that he will get a standing O every time he visits wrigley in his post-playing days, or a return with a new team should his career continue...or if he comes back and puts in an oldschool good performance.

    What are the chances we can back off on gloating over other people’s misfortune?  One of the things I appreciate about the TCR community is that the remarks are more productive and add to how I like to follow the game.  

    Lately, however, I’m reading comments that are just mean.  If I were an MLB player, I would hate to get a back or finger injury and have someone write ‘hurrah!  I hope we never see him again!’  Especially when it is someone we were praising not long ago.  I’m not saying ‘don’t express how you feel’ but some comments lately seem downright mean spirited.  Stuff I expect from other communities but don’t often see here.  The TCR community has always spoken the truth but never with such a dark tone.

    Just my two cents.  I hope Hendricks comes back and is the professor we all know. He can pitch for the Cubs as long as he wants in my book.

    would have liked to keep cooper, but it looks like they're gonna go with wisdom if they have to pick a righty who's gonna K 1/3rd of his PA's.

    Another year AZPhil, and you have more to do than ever! Heck yeah! Great stuff from Rosario so far. What are your impressions of guys like Freilyn Silverio, Adan Sanchez, Jose Escobar, and Anderson Suriel? Particularly the first two, feel like I’m forgetting one.
