Sean Marshall gets the start because of the doubleheader on Wednesday and he'll be on a limit of 80 pitches. If that doesn't get the Cubs to at least the 6th, expect to see Jason Marquis out there for an inning or two. Lou, obviously bored with winning with his normal lineup, lets the scrubs try to extend the Cubs five game win streak and nine game road win streak.

i guess soriano does own the #1 slot very firmly if this is how he's handled with this crew of talent in a lineup. edmonds/ward/fontenot...you're on power duty...hope you're up to it. well, we know fontegod is...5/5 5hrs, easy.

Ramirez and Lee not coming through with 2 outs and tying run on 3rd? I think we've seen this movie before. Anyway hopefully we can win tomorrow and win the series...even without that its a 4-2 road trip and good enough.

For you Bears fans out there, this is the worst Bears offense I have seen since before Mike Ditka took the team over. It is going to be a long, pathetic year...

By the way, a BIG BIG BIG FU LOU!!!!!! What was with that horseshit lineup? YOu know what? With Sean Marshall (did a nice job but still) on the hill and Aram out, Lee doesn't get to rest. Sorry, but you gave that game up today. Oh and blanco too.

Because this scrub lineup got my attention to the Candidate Forum he was hosting, which was actually pretty well done. I dont see the point with all of these days off (4.5,as the rain out was a half one because why they didnt play I imagine they did all their pre-game stuff) in the last 2 weeks, to justify not playing 3 of your top 4 hitters.

http://www.suntimes.com/sports/baseball/cubs/1111792,CST-SPT-cubnt17.ar… Rich Hill's season continues to be a rocky one. The demoted left-handed starter is back to playing catch in Mesa, Ariz., bothered by biceps tendinitis as well as nagging back problems. Things are better for pitcher Angel Guzman, who is coming back from Tommy John elbow surgery. Guzman has been promoted to Class AAA Iowa, where he'll pitch today. Guzman allowed two runs while pitching five innings for Class A Daytona, and he pitched three scoreless innings for Class AA Tennessee.

That’s just kinda how it works though, for every team. No team plays their best guys all the time. No team is comprising of their best 26 even removing injuries.

When baseball became a business, like REALLY a business, it became important to keep some of the vets happy, which in turn keeps agents happy and keeps the team with a good reputation among players and agents. No one wants to play for a team that has a bad reputation in the same way no one wants to work for a company that has a bad rep.

Don’t get me wrong, I hate it too. But there’s nothing anyone can do about it.

On that topic, I find it silly the Cubs brought up Canario to sit as much as he has. He’s going to get Velazquez’d, and it’s a shame.

Of course, McKinstry runs circles around $25 million man Javier Baez on that Tigers team. Guess who gets more playing time?

    But I digress…

Seems like Jed was trying to corner the market on mediocre infielders with last names starting with "M" in acquiring Madrigal, Mastroboney and Zach McKinstry.

At least he hasn't given any of them a Bote-esque extension.

    AZ Phil:
Rookie ball (ACL) starts on May 4th. Do yo think Ramon and Rosario (maybe Delgado) stay in Mesa for the month of May, then go to MB if all goes "solid"?

masterboney is a luxury on a team that has multiple, capable options for 2nd, SS, and 3rd without him around.  i don't hate the guy, but if madrigal is sticking around then masterboney is expendable.

I THINK I agree with that decision. They committed to Wicks as a starter and, while he hasn’t been stellar I don’t think he’s been bad enough to undo that commitment.

That said, Wesneski’s performance last night dictates he be the next righty up.

Quite the dilemma. They have many good options, particularly in relief, but not many great ones. And complicating the situation is that the pitchers being paid the most are by and large performing the worst - or in Taillon’s case, at least to this point, not at all.

    Wesneski and Mastrobuoni to Iowa

    Taillon and Wisdom up

Wesneski can't pitch for a couple of days after the 4 IP from last night. But Jed picked Wicks over Wesneski.

    booooooooooo

Tonight’s game postponed. Split games on Saturday.

cubs getting crazy good at not having player moves leak.

taillon we 100% know is pitching tonight.  who he's replacing and any additional moves are unknown as far as i can tell.

p.wisdom was not in today's lineup in iowa (rained out) and he was removed from the game last night mid-game, but not for injury.  good bet he's with the team in the bigs, too.
