Paranormal Activity at Wrigley Field.

So I bought this camera off a guy who works as a doorman at the Congress Hotel, which is supposedly haunted or whatever. Guy said he found it in a room in basement in a closet that hadn't been opened since 1908. Or maybe 1969 -he couldn't remember.

Anyway, really old. Uses film.

I brought it to Wrigley towards the end of this season and took some pictures. Just a regular day, nothing out of the ordinary.

Then I forgot about it.

Just the other day I had the film developed and... LOOK AT THOSE HORRIFYING IMAGES!

 

It captured actual paranormal activity at my favorite ball park.
Amazingly (and apparently), people or experiences just leave a "ghost" of themselves even if they're still alive.

(I'm certain I'll be contacted by ghost hunters and experts on the paranormal wanting to pay big dollars for my camera, but it was unfortunately destroyed in an accident involving fire, fly wings, a photo of Sam Zell and goat's blood.)

But come ON, what an amazing coincidence I got this photo developed right when Halloween is upon us!

And oddly, it got me thinking about Lou Piniella.

Time will tell, but years from now his legacy just might be remembered most in popular culture by two words that escaped his mouth while talking to Tribune beat writers: "Cubby Occurrence".

Sure I know the popular way to think about the Cubs any more is to steer clear of goats and jinxes and hexes and stuff. But the other day I'm listening to hugely respected Buster Olney on the radio, and he's talking about the weird "energy" around the San Francisco Giants. How every bounce is going their way. I think I even heard the word "karma" in there somewhere. There are different words to use when it's all positive, right Buster?

But if you're from Texas?

It's nothing but Cubby Occurrences happening to your favorite team, Rangers Fans, and I say "welcome to the club, ya'll".

Well actually, since it's Halloween, lets just call it paranormal activity and leave it at that.

What else?

The World Series continues this evening in Texas.

I once paid hard-earned money to enter that place and before the game had ended, Larry Biittner was pitching. Pitching! Then years later I once again payed to go inside (had a little more dough at this point so it wasn't quite as painful) and before that game was over, Doug Dascenzo was pitching. Pitching! It was frightening enough that these guys saw significant time at their regular positions but pitching? Truly horrifying.

An administrative coach filling the role that Matt Sinatro had in 2010 will be named along with Listach after the World Series.
Administrative Coach? Does the job require bringing a GPS? Quade takes the "L" to work, does this coach get to wear a conductor's cap? Damn the bureaucracy. Ad-ministrative coach (defined): In charge of Noodles and stealing Toyota signs.

    DJL: if a pitcher is recalled to be the 27th man for a doubleheader and then is optioned back to the minors the next day, the 15-day "clock" does NOT reset. The one day call-up for the doubleheader is treated like it never happened with respect to a pitcher having to spend at least 15 days on optional assignment before he can be recalled.

    Probably the only reason David Peralta is still in the organization (he is at AAA Iowa) is to be available in case anything bad were to happen to Ian Happ (which it just did). So if Happ needs to go on the IL, the Cubs can select Peralta to play LF, DFA Wisdom (and hope he and what remains of his $2.725M salary gets claimed off waivers), and recall Mervis to platoon at DH with Cooper (with Canario / Tauchman sharing RF), at least until Suzuki and Happ are back...

    i'd just like to take a moment to express to the world i'm still pissed willson contreras is not a cub when the pricetag was 5/87m (17.5m/yr).

    it would be nice to have a legacy-type player to stick around, especially one with his leadership and the respect he gets from his peers.  cubs fans deserved more than 1 season of contreras + morel...that was gold.

    I don’t see Tauchman as a weak link in any position. He simply adds his value in a different way.

    I don’t know that we gain much by putting him in the outfield - Happ, Bellinger and Suzuki and Tauchman all field their positions well. If you’re looking for Taucnman’s kind of AB in a particular game I don’t see why it can’t come from DH.

    Tauchman gets a pinch hit RBI single with a liner to RF. This is his spot. He's a solid 4th OF. But he isn't a DH. 

    He takes pitches. Useful. I still believe in having good hitters.

    You don't want your DH to be your weak link (other than your C maybe)

    the 2024 marlins don't seem to be good at doing baseballs.
