How many combined caught stealing and errors for the Cubs tonight? free polls

Johnson struck out just 3 in last night's poll, with the majority picking 7-10 K's for him.

Iowa @Albuquerque (Dodgers): Jay Jackson vs. Nieve.

Tennessee @ Huntsville (Brewers) in a doubleheader: Dallas Beeler vs. Anundsen; Dae-Eun Rhee vs. ????.

Daytona has the day off.

@Peoria vs. Cedar Rapids (Angels): Jose Rosario vs. Crowley

It's called "thwartstop", positioned right where the hitter's spray chart shows he should...

Baker would make a great thwartstop.

I love the poll.

This is the first season in quite awhile I've been following the minors more closely than the majors, and not only because of the obvious fact that they are so close in skill levels.

until Friday with a hamstring injury, fwiw.

Why are we seeing so much Johnson? This is the problem with having Mather, Johnson, and Baker all on the team--the manager thinks he has to bench DeJesus an LaHair every time there is a lefty starting because what's the point of having shortside platoon guys if you aren't going to use them?

Somebody please come calling for Baker soon.

if they were gonna platoon lahair (which seems to be what they're doing) it wouldn't have been too hard to find a cheap bench/1st-platoon guy beyond baker...especially since they re-up'd dewitt and baker rather than cutting one of them.

4ab 0h 0bb 3k vs. lefties for lahair...dunno how many chances he'll get this year vs. them.

maybe it only came apparent this spring that's something they'd have to idea...

good news with Buehrle on the mound, the Cubs should lose rather quickly today.

I think Garza balances out the speed...

I should have added double plays to the poll.

Iowa lineup: Campana CF, B. Jackson LF, Valbuena 2B, Rizzo 1B, Castillo C, Cardenas SS, Sappelt RF, Vitters 3B, J. Jackson P.

end of the 4th going well....

with 2 out, Stanton singles, Gaby gets on when Stewart can't barehand a ball, Garza strikes out Buck but ump calls it a ball (replays and WGN K-zone show it right down the middle near bottom of zone but clearly a strike).

ends it by striking out Murphy who had HR'd earlier.

Byrd singles, grab him now for your fantasy teams before the rush.

1st/2nd and Garza up to fail at bunting.

Is the in-game chat working for anyone? It's not for me.

yeah. you need to have java installed on your browser of choice or it won't load.

Thanks crunch. Finally got in and nobody was there. I suppose the guys on the season ticket waiting list must feel the same way.

yeah, it's hit/miss for people being in there...a lot more "miss" the past couple seasons.

D. Barney showing off his post workout not-even-warning-track-power to leadoff the 6th

new fantasy strategy...

pick up whomever is going against the Cubs that day

Why not? It's how I play D in fantasy football. "Who's got Cleveland? Who's got St. Louis? Jacksonville? Is Seattle on the road?" I can only think of one week this season where I got burned.

Does anyone else's Wendy's restaurant look like that commercial? I think mine still has the olden newspaper tables.

I don't go in fast food restaurants. Drive thru, ftw.

Byrd makes a great effort to cutoff a ball from going to the wall, then negates great effort by 3-hopping throw to the cutoff man so Stanton scores easily from first.

Illustrative of this young season?

solid effort by Soriano as always...groundball through SS and 3rd, man on second pauses to make sure ball goes through and Murphy just runs all the way to 2b cause Soriano isn't paying attention.

Then Buehrle singles off Lendy.

Betcha Eckstein would've caught that liner.

Lendy is really dragging down this team.

Good thing the "taxpayers" are enjoying their new ballpark, even though the Cubs drew more than 8K more last Wednesday night to watch the shitty ass Cubs in that cold ass ballpark.

I think TheoCorp needs to work on their Rule 5 game plan next year.

They should pretend it doesn't exist. A $100M+ team shouldn't be drafting rule 5 guys.

a triple...a triple hit to LF...sigh.

Well, in the good news department tonight:

Finger taps

Sheepish full mouthed cartoon smile.

At least Castro still has trade value!

How meaningful are the first 10 games?

article by John DeWan.

Answer: if your team is bad in the first 10 games, it mean they will not win 90 games.

Except last year 60% of teams who won 3 or first ten games or worse - went ahead and won 90+ games.

"so you're saying there's a chance ..."

  • Yeah, it's the past but you keep complaining based on the past. First they tanked and shouldn't have. Now they make some comments about needing to have a budget and you say they're crying poverty -- all before any trades/signings have been made. (They signed a $155 million pitcher last year, I recall.)

FYI, the Cubs have had a skating rink the last couple of years. It's not a permanent structure (obviously) and probably doesn't cost all that much. But who knows, maybe it'll be the reason they don't win a World Series.

  • Thanks guys! Pretty sure Bill Murray says thanks too.

  • Awesome job, Tim!

  • Classic.

  • Outfielder Chris Young signs "multiyear" contract w BoSox.

    Wow, Dombrowski is a buffoon

  • Not sure I understand the logic, especially for more than one year.

  • well, that's the past. we're left with the present. even though that past you're seeing is some weird black/white either/or where hybridization of ideas isn't allowed...nonetheless...

the present is ice skating, movies, concerts, beer gardens, hotels, office space and other wonderful baseball activities based around a young, successful baseball team.

  • All money making ventures, which would have been offset with a reasonable TV contract that previous ownership screwed up

  • Brilliant!

  • Nah, I'll probably just contemplate how they should've done a Padres-style all-in plan.

  • of course not. maybe go ice skating and think about it a while. make advanced reservations at the hotel they're starting construction on. check new releases for possible entertainment from the movie screens they want installed. think about renting an office in the new office spaces. write a letter to the cubs requesting your favorite beer be added to the beer garden. lobby your favorite band to play the outdoor venue.

...and in between that maybe they can find $40-50m to invest in the product that all of this revolves around.

  • let's not get caught up on phrasing for a setup and lose the gist of the post. i don't care what one wants to call the playoff exit.

    -crapping out
    +they lost their playoff attempt

there. now we can focus on something other than not liking the tone of a line that's setting up a point.

  • I didn't like the entire post, if that helps.

  • Making the NLCS with a young team = "crapping out of the playoffs with a young team."

  • I'm guessing 3/30 and all the two foot long hot dogs you can eat didn't work
