Game 17 Thread - Garza vs. Garcia

The Cubs get their chance to make up some ground....I can't even finish that sentence with a straight face. How about? Cubs get the World Champs again and a chance to lose another series. Better.

Iowa already played today and loss to the Cardinals AAA affiliate, Memphis 6-2 at home. Jay Jackson with yet another poor outing, 5 IP, 4 ER, 0 K, 1 BB, 8 H. B. Jackson goes 2/4 with a SB, Rizzo 2/3 with a 2B and a BB and W. Castillo 1/4 with an RBI. The other minor league matchups include:

Dallas Beeler vs. Chattanooga (Dodgers): Soto 6, Watkins 4, Ha 8, Ridling, Mota 7, Burgess 9, Samson 5, Brenly 2, Beeler 1

Zach Cates vs. Lakeland (Detroit - Jacob Turner happens to be starting):  Szczur 8, Torreyes 4, Perez 9, Rohan 5, Jones 3, Andreoli 7, Silva 0, Noble 2, Alcantara 6

Jose Rosario vs. Lansing (Toronto):Devoss 4, Zapata 9, Cuneo 3, Hoilman 0, Davis 2, Easterling 8, Darvill 5, Hernandez 6, Gonzalez 7

Michael Bowden is with the team and they DFA'd Rodrigo Lopez to make room on the roster for him. Also, Kerry threw in the outfield today and claims to be feeling much better.

Iowa already played today and loss to the Cardinals AAA affiliate, Memphis 6-4 at home. --- Don't get so excited, the Iowa offense isn't that good. Final was 6-2 according to the box score I read.

rather than argue the merits of how good he is/will be in april it's a lot easier to stand by old statements and let stewart's work speak for itself after he keeps showing what he's got. i don't think the guy's issue with balls in play is going to get better based on how he swings a bat even though he's been robbed of a few. others do... there's not much to do with it at this point because you're working with 50ab's and few that doesn't already have an opinion are gonna be swayed toward any side.

I worry that Morel will lose starts at 3B as long as this roster lacks a compelling DH.

I think if you had ranked players by how much the team could ill afford to have them miss significant time, Steele would be right at the top of the list.

steele MRI on friday.  counsell expects an IL stint.

no current plans for his rotation replacement.

I would say also in the bright side column is Busch looked pretty good overall at the plate. Alzolay…man, that hurts but most of the time he’s not giving up a homer to that guy. To me the worst was almonte hanging that pitch to Garcia. He hung another one to the next hitter too and got away with it on an 0-1.

amaya blocked like 6-8 of smyly's pitches in the dirt very cleanly...not even an exaggeration, smyly threw a ton of pitches bouncing in tonight.

neris looking like his old self was a relief (no pun), too.

In looking for bright spots the defense was outstanding tonight. The “stars” are going to need to shine quite a bit brighter than they did tonight offensively though for this to be a successful season.

Good baseball game. Hopefully Steele is pitching again in April (but I’m not counting on it).

    boo.

smyly to face the 2/3/4 hitters with a man on 2nd in extras.

this doesn't seem like a 8 million dollar managerial decision.

i 100% agree with you, but i dunno how jed wants to run things.  the default is delay.  i would choose brown.

like hellfrozeover says, could be smyly since he's technically fresh and stretched.

anyway, on a pure talent basis....brown is the best option.
