ratso hits #16 w/ backing of a 20+ mph wind...

good luck ninja...

2 games in a row without i.stewart (3 out of the last 5, all vs lefties)...looks like they're firmly on platoon-mode with him now (or he's banged up).

I hear a Beatles song going through my head, over, and over, and over again.

Turn me on deadman

Cubs losing streak up to 8 games.

Now proud owner of worst record in baseball, 1/2 game up(?) on Rockies and Twins.

and 59 innings without a lead in a game...neat.

reed johnson gets it done with a solo shot in the 60th inning (top 1st).

AZ Phil,

Any truth to Phil Rogers's claim today that Baez is on the cusp of a promotion to Peoria?

What is wrong with Dan Vogelbach? Ugh. He's been atrocious.

it's not going to get any easier out there once june pounds down pure heat on them...not like it's been cool there recently or anything.

Bad Z tonight, 7 ER through 5 IP vs rockies

So I shouldn't have started him on the ol' fantasy team...

Now down 2-1 on pure Cubbery.

Typical that the ball gets knocked out of DeJesus glove by Barney when they collided near the RF line on a soft bloop.

Todd Walker is coaching high school baseball now.

"I started coaching my son's U-9 travel team this year and I had a great time with that"

...an under-9yo travel league. baseball these days...wow.

We have a U8 team in our suburban Chicago league

The CABA and USSSA World Series for 9U, 11U, and 15U have been held in/around Crystal Lake for sometime. There's 8 and 9 yr old 'In-House' leagues in Arizona will talent equal or better than most travel teams around Chicago.

They've been trying to do the whole "travel leagues" thing for youths here in NC for years recently, but for the most part it seems to be the 12-18 year olds that fill the leagues.

They've offered (someone still might be organizing) U8/9/10/etc leagues, but they've been less than competitive to fill. It's not uncommon to see -12yo leagues with barely enough players to fill a 10-12 man roster.

The short-series "tourneys" are getting more popular, though. Kids basically practice for a short time then play in a week-long series or a series of weekend tourneys.

Some of the coaching (Dads) playing their kid at SS and P gets to some, but I'm generally in favor of anything that keeps them busy away from video games and trouble.

Athletic coaches were frequently as bad influences in my life as video games were. At least in my area, racism and sexism were extra common among athletic coaches, and so were the tendencies to scream at and/or humiliate anyone who disappointed you in any way.

This. I had some real assholes for coaches pre high school. The older and smarter I got, the more it turned me off. At some point you either have to accept the meatballness, or ignore it. I'm not particularly good at either.

Wrestling coaches were the absolute worst when I was growing up. You are already feeling miserable from cutting weight. Then you have to listen to an asshole say you have no heart, and how "In his day" I wouldn't have ever beat him.

Hope they never made ya "check the oil"

aka "the asian dart"

I had a great wrestling coach...though I was never a fan of the "Butt Drag".

Your Chicag Cubs

dolis...barf.

1-5, bottom 8...fun

full pdf of the CBA is out

http://bizofbaseball.com/index.php?option=com...

I scanned through it and there's no mention of designated hitter being negotiable or possibly being implemented other than to say during interleague games, there will be on in AL parks and the pitcher hits in NL parks. And in the ASG, there will be a DH for both leagues regardless of the park.

There's a possibility of an international draft in 2013 and there's an option for it to be implemented in each ensuing year.

CBA runs through 2016.

  • Phil, have you heard anything about the condition of Oscar De La Cruz's elbow? Has there been talk of a time table? Is he throwing?

  • i was distracted for most of the game and also missed the first few innings.

but yeah, any time he makes a good fielding+throwing play on D it's worthy of praise and a trip to pizza hut for a personal pan pizza and $1 worth of songs on the juke box.

    seriously, i'll take it.

  • BTW, CRUNCH, Lester made a nice bh pick-up and toss to Bryant. Did you catch it?

He's been workin' on the D!

  • Ach - I really only saw it quickly and thought that's where it it. No matter - he crushed it and the video board people did not have to repair the panels from what I saw!

  • Totally agree with that re Soler, whereas Bryant seems to get the close call (so far) this year.

Good to see Baez get a couple knocks today - been awhile

  • that works too...there wasnt a good CSN replay...was going off whatever len or jd (dont remember) said.

  • I was there. From what I saw it was upper third of the scoreboard

  • No I have been thinking actually that he seems to lead the Cubs with balls called strikes all year. He really shouldn't be expanding his zone to swing at many of those either because it wouldn't lead to anything good. He's seeing the ball well though so hopefully it'll even out.

  • So why don't the umps like Soler, or am I just imagining it?

  • this team is full of horrible walkup music...rizzo uses 'marky mark and the funky bunch' more than he should...which is any at all.

d.ross uses alphaville 'forever young' because lulz.

lastella was using (still might be) 'oh what a night' by the four seasons.

    turrible turrible stuff.
