AZ Phil, I see a number of Latin newcomers have arrived in Mesa. What is Daury Torres injury? Do you think Armando Rivero will be leaving Fitch soon?
Thanks

HAGSAG: Armando Rivero isn't ready to throw in games yet, so I don't see him leaving Fitch Park anytime soon.

I don't know what's wrong with Daury Torrez, but he is playing catch and participating in PFP drills and the like, so I doubt that it is anything too serious.

BTW, probably the most-interesting recent-arrival from the Dominican Academy is 24-year old 6'6 230+ RHP Orbandy Rodriguez, who pitched for the DSL Diamondbacks as "Manuel Gil" in 2008-09 (where he was a teammate of Juan Carlos Paniagua--known at the time as "Juan Callado") and was a fairly decent prospect, before suffering a fractured elbow in 2009 and missing the last three seasons. He was released by the D'backs (I believe his contract might have been voided), changed his name to "Orbandy Rodriguez" and his DOB from 3-17-1991 to 9-29-1988 (he suppoedly was 16 when he signed with the D'backs, but he was really 19), and the Cubs signed him after he threw for them at DSL Instructs last November. No matter the name, he is one big dude.

Still no Juan Carlos Paniagua.

Q-MAN: Juan Carlos Paniagua could very well end up pitching for the DSL Cubs this season.

6000 square foot jumbo tron in left field at Wriley.

Suck it, Roofies.

Wscr Cubs "insider"

Cubs dont care if roofies sue because they have to sue Cubs and City. HA!

Well, what was the point of that information? Cities can be sued. It would not be unprecedented for a judge to allow for an injunction to stop building permits, etc. I don't get the gloating...

i think the point might be that it's an expensive and time consuming thing that might cause pause to many potential "victims" looking to take care of it via the courts...dunno if there's any immunity in play, doubt there is.

Ah, I see. It will be interesting to see how it plays out. Its just so bizarre for me to understand that Ricketts bought the team knowing that the Rooftops were his true partners for 20 years! Amazing.

I don't have much sympathy for either side here. Rickets tries to act like the victim being held hostage, but he has a very sweet deal with a stadium that has been packed for years despite mediocre play in an industry that gets special treatment (sports in general) compared to most other businesses, so I'm not feeling the capitalist "let the business owner have control over his business" argument. Owning the Cubs is a very cushy deal financially and I doubt that will ever change, especially once TV rights deals get even better. On the other hand, Tooney and the rooftop owners without a doubt have some corruption going on.

  • Sorry, how are the Cubs getting a pick out of this?

  • Besides what he adds to the Cubs bullpen, getting Aroldis Chapman means the Giants and Nationals (and Indians) can't get him, and that could be important come the post-season.

When the opponent knows Chapman is out there ready to pitch in the 9th, it can cause the other team to alter their strategy and play things differently than they otherwise might prefer to play things in the 6th, 7th, and 8th innings.

  • thats a lot for 2-3 months....beyond Torres it's a lot of organizational depth, but hate to use your best prospect for a rental.

  • chap's a FA after this season. 2-3 months of chapman and a sandwich pick after the 1st round (stay healthy chap) seems to be the "worst" outcome, but damn they're giving up a hell of a piece in torres.

i don't care that torres is blocked...i just think something more valuable/controlled can come from trading away a guy like him.

  • "According to USA Today's Bob Nightengale, the Cubs will not have a contract extension in place with Aroldis Chapman when their trade for the closer becomes official."

    hmmm.

  • Per Patrick Mooney, it's SS Gleyber Torres, RHP Adam Warren, RF Billy McKinney, and CF Rashad Crawford for Aroldis Chapman

  • That is a hell of a lot if they don't get an extention done. I'm assuming Chapman is going to be the closer with Rondon in the 8th and Strop in the 7th. That sounds great but Rondon #s aren't as good in non-save situations so we'll see how he responds to being the setup man.

  • I certainly hope he signed an extension. I would have been ok with this package for Miller, it is too much for 2 (well 3, hopefully) of Chapman. Of course, we win the World Series, I will retract this immediately.

  • @JonHeyman: Yanks and Cubs have a deal. Torres, mckinney, Warren and likely 1 more to NYY.

CTSteve 1 hour 25 min ago view
  • Rumor McKinney part of package

  • I would rather have Ian Happ at second.

  • that is a hell of a lot of talent to shift for a reliever who's gonna get paid top-scale "free agent" type money in 2017+ after a 1/2 year rental for the remainder of 2016.

  • Cubs are going to need a 2nd baseman of the future. I'm still not convinced Baez can be that offensively on an everyday basis.

  • Updating: Per @Joelsherman1, #Cubs-#Yankees trade, if completed, would be Chapman for Torres, Warren and likely two others.

Can only imagine they'd only give that much up if he's signing an extension.
