Sunday Funnies: Samardzija can't buy a win

Awesome. Love looking at Alec Bald's pitching arm. Shaped similar to Marmol yesterday.

Thanks Cubster. Marmol wears me out.

Great work CB. As the kids say, so much win. As Smarj says, so much.

4 straight hits (and a wild pitch) to start the 4th for e.jackson...3 runs in...at least he's better than halladay...which isn't saying much this season.

cubs with 19 WP this season and 4 PB.

4 straight 2-out hits for the cubs...4-3 cin/chc in the bottom 5th.

marmol in to pitch the 6th...earliest appearance in a game since 08.

...and s.camp comes into the 7th to throw his 87mph heat and screw up the close game.

6-3 cin/chc.

That's exactly as fast as my friend threw when he went undrafted. #dfa

...and the cubs lose...7-4

11-20 on the season.

fuji goes 1ip 0h 1bb 2k for iowa

verlander no-hitter through 6...98 pitches, though.

...and it's over in the 7th after 1 out.

baseball is better...when the Cubs play against the bad teams.

Cubs move to 4th in the 2014 draft...

Too soon?

when the "hell yeah" cry of cubs fans this offseason signing class was "wait until we see what we can get for these guys in june" i think everyone gave up before the race started.

i'm waiting for the low-point where fans on message boards are cheering losses for a better draft slot. i imagine that should heat up around august.

why wait? A loss in May is as valuable as one during the dog days.

the cubs have a better record than TOR and the same record as LAA. applying pre-season logic, the cubs are doing extraordinary.

  • Javy's grunge dive into the stands for the popup was awesome - the hitting into the double play not so much

  • Third time I've tried to post this (forgive me if it winds up appearing three times)

Junior Lake, batting 9th and playing RF for the Blue Jays...

  • *That was a fun HALF inning.

  • I'm pretty sure that Len called Bryant's home run a Brexit.

  • everyone but heyward with a hit and a 3 run lead with coghlan on 3rd through 5 batters. hell yeah.

okay, this is just silly. 19 pitches in, 1 out, 4 runs in, men on 1st and 2nd...hendricks up to bunt.

...and almora contributes the final out. that was a fun inning.

  • this game is awesome already.

also, there's a lot of cubs fans in the park tonight.

  • Clearly, Joe Maddon is a Lineup Wizzard.

  • "Cubs manager Joe Maddon said Friday that Anthony Rizzo (back) is feeling better and it's "possible" the first baseman could return to the lineup Saturday."

  • Maddon shore isn't afraid to bat a rookie 4th in the order.

  • how many pairs of dice did dusty leave hidden around the park when he left the cubs?

  • Line-up shakeup, going all-2015 with pitcher batting 8th, Bryant 2nd

J-Hey, Bryant 1B, Zobrist, Willson, Coghlan, Baez 3B, Russell, Hendricks, Almora

  • The Cubs are currently down Schwarber, Fowler, Soler, and Rizzo and Montero appear to be day-to-day. Maybe not surprising that they are struggling a bit as they rely more than expected on Baez, Russell, Almora, Contreras, and Szczur to provide offensive value.

  • Joe: "I loved the way we brought it today, man. We'll take this every night and win a lot of ballgames like that. Losing 4 in a row...that's nothin'."
