Rule 5 Draft
Minor League Free-Agents

It's Draft Day, Cub Fans. Theo Epstein: please be on your game.

The most important thing that will happen today in sports has nothing to do with the Blackhawks or Duncan Keith's suspension or creepy sleazebag living Ped Dispenser Tony Bosch (hey that would make a good drawing) or anything to do with LBJ and the Heat.
It's draft day.
Theo Epstein, this is your day.
Today is why we're all sitting around watching these couple summers of losing Cubs' baseball.
You've got the 2nd draft pick.
Right behind the Astros.
And then something ridiculous like 39 more picks for everyone from college seniors to children in Korea.
It is very important to me that you choose the correct guy(s) so the Cubs can keep their date with the World Series ummm...sometime really soon.
Do I know who that guy that first guy is?
No.
Everybody says it's Mark Appel.
But you're Theo Epstein, the guy with the braintrust, the scouts, the software...
So figure it out, dude.
You have literally all my faith.

Go Cubs.

Somewhat similar to the question I had in a previous post, with lots of good follow up and answers. I'm still against signing a pitcher on a 1,2,3 type pick, but there was some good info there. http://www.thecubreporter.com/comment/212917#comment-212917 It's the injury thing for me. I see the potential for position players and pitchers to be about the same at that level - by that level I mean a top three pick. There's a pretty decent chance they'll make it. But the pitcher is more likely to have a career ending injury. I'd rather see the team build its staff by picking lots of pitchers further down and seeing which ones manage to stay healthy enough to emerge into a star.

The Ryan Braun cartoon was mint (I bet that's a word the kids don't use anymore, unlike, say, "dude"). I should have said, that was sick!

steele MRI on friday.  counsell expects an IL stint.

no current plans for his rotation replacement.

I would say also in the bright side column is Busch looked pretty good overall at the plate. Alzolay…man, that hurts but most of the time he’s not giving up a homer to that guy. To me the worst was almonte hanging that pitch to Garcia. He hung another one to the next hitter too and got away with it on an 0-1.

amaya blocked like 6-8 of smyly's pitches in the dirt very cleanly...not even an exaggeration, smyly threw a ton of pitches bouncing in tonight.

neris looking like his old self was a relief (no pun), too.

In looking for bright spots the defense was outstanding tonight. The “stars” are going to need to shine quite a bit brighter than they did tonight offensively though for this to be a successful season.

Good baseball game. Hopefully Steele is pitching again in April (but I’m not counting on it).

    boo.

smyly to face the 2/3/4 hitters with a man on 2nd in extras.

this doesn't seem like a 8 million dollar managerial decision.

i 100% agree with you, but i dunno how jed wants to run things.  the default is delay.  i would choose brown.

like hellfrozeover says, could be smyly since he's technically fresh and stretched.

anyway, on a pure talent basis....brown is the best option.

Use pitchers when you believe they're good. Don't plan their clock.

I'm sorry. I'm simply anti-clock/contract management. Play guys when they show real MLB potential talent.

If Brown hadn't been hurt with the Lat Strain he would've gotten the call, and not Wick.

    Give him a chance.

    But Wesneski probably gets it
