Postseason Managerial Records

I was curious, so I figured some of you may be as well...

Manager W-L % Series Records
C. Hurdle 8-4 .667 2-1 and 1 game WC win in '13
T. Francona 28-18 .609 7-3 and 1 game WC loss in '13
M. Matheny 7-6 .538 1-1 and 1 game WC win in '12
J. Leyland 39-34 .534 8-6
J. Maddon 12-14 .462 2-3 and 1 game WC win in '13
D. Baker 19-26 .422 3-6 and 1 game WC loss in '13
B. Melvin 5-7 .417 1-2
F. Gonzalez 0-1 .000 Lost 1 game WC in '12
D. Mattingly N/A
J. Farrell N/A

(UPDATED after the Rays and Indians game)

While technically not playoff games, a few managers were involved in tiebreaker games, i.e Game 163 and they went as so:

D. Baker's Giants in '98 lost to the Cubs at Wrigley

C. Hurdle's Rockies in '07 beat the Padres at Coors

J. Leyland's Tigers in '09 lost to the Twins at the Metrodome

J. Maddon's Rays in '13 beat the Rangers at the Ballpark in Arlington.

There's really little point in trying to assign any value to any of that, although to maybe point and laugh at Dusty's record.

Trade Rumor dude says agents he spoke to believe Cubs will spend FA money on a catcher this offseason. I think the agents are just hoping that's the case. The big names out there are McCann, Saltalamacchia and Flores. My guess from a month ago was if they do go after anyone it would be Saltalamacchia.

they pretty much have to sign a C given the crap options they have that are MLB ready that can actually produce...dunno about a big name, though.

Couldn't the Cubs still use the Welington Castillo/Dioner Navarro situation again?

Agreed. I'll take those two any day. Might be speculation that they cannot afford to resign Navarro? Or that he wants to be a #1? I want to keep him but we'll see.

Might be speculation that they cannot afford to resign Navarro?
Salty will cost more than DN. I don't get the speculation either.

  • 14 in attendance. What's the record for attendance in the fall? I guess I should ask what the record attendance listed is in one of your recaps.

  • I was there too, with my grown son. This is my miracle year-- I rose to the top of the season ticket list after eight years, completely unexpectedly, and my wonderful wife agreed to put the ticket fee on the emergency credit card. The whole point of course was that the Cubs were going to be good this year, and then for a while, so to get season tickets with the guaranteed shot at the postseason was incredible timing. We got to the remote lot at 4:10 after stopping at Nhu Lan for our usual banh mi sandwiches, only to find the lot full, way earlier than normal.

  • Wrigley was electric tonite
    Not many card fans
Video board was great, they played "there goes my hero" by foos over ryno highlights before he came out. Spectacular

Good times hopefully they win tomorrow but think Lester will beat poopy pants on Wednesday.

Happy 4th anniversary of Theo's signing

    Go Cubs !

  • Yeah. "Goodbye!" is a lame HR call.

I miss Len and JD -- although, driving home from a friend's, WBBM played all 6 HR calls in a row -- and Len got to call the Bryant/Rizzo back-to-back. Very fun.

  • Lackey has been a beast against us. His stats on 3 days rest, however, not as nice. There is plenty of hope.

  • And, no dreadlocks grown yet.

  • Captain Obvious Strikes Again!!!

  • Amen, brother.

  • In the wild card game he mentioned that aram started with the Pirates, then played for the Brewers, and now he's back with the Pirates. Uhhhh, missed a step there, guy.

  • i like ron darling the person, the interview, and the studio desk guy...but him calling a game can lead to some really stupid stuff coming out of his mouth.

  • If you think these announcers are bad ,the ones doing the Mets vs Dodgers (Ron Darling ,Cal Ripken and someone else)
are worse they did the wildcard game I never knew Joe Jackson and Derrick Fowler played for the Cubs this year you
would think there would be research by them.

  • daaaaaayam.

  • Soler's OPS in the NLDS? 3.750.

  • ...and HRs are good.

  • Theo: "So, let's see...should we put Soler on the post-season roster? Ummmm, yeah, I mean what the hell."

Wow -- if he can bring that focus and plate discipline next year -- yowza! Seems like Manny has really helped him.

  • 2-1 series!

1st team hit hit 6HR in a game in the postseason. woo.
