Soto Wins Rookie of the Year
As expected, the Cubs field general Geovany Soto took home the NL Rookie of the Year honors. He's the 5th Cub to win the honor and first catcher since Mike Piazza in 1993. He did it on the strength of a 285/364/504 batting line with 23 HR's, 86 RBI's and 66 Runs in the traditional baseball categories. He also created 6.6 Runs per game, had a 7.0 WARP-1 value and was 5 runs above average on defense, those last two numbers courtesy of Baseball Prospectus. That's quite a nice little season that was good enough to get 31 of the 32 possible first place votes, with one yokel probably from Cincinnati voting for Joey Votto.
Thanks to the legwork of reader WISCGRAD, here's the complete list of Cubs that have received a vote for the Rookie of the Year. The five winners are in bold (Geovany Soto, Kerry Wood, Jerome Walton, Ken Hubbs and Billy Williams).
Now that Soto has earned the ROY hardware, next up - OSCAR!

15 games over .500...not a bad start.
Brian Schlitter moments aside - what a sweet win!
this ump...at least he seems consistently shitty.
c.richard with another outing making him look expendable...
hey may be a righty, but f.pena put in another strong night last night...2ip 0h 1bb 3k
last thing the club seems to need is another reliever, though. the cubs starters keep putting lack-of-work pressure on the pen more than anything so far.
Good thing Bryant can play multiple positions. If he was only a 3B he'd be frustrated sitting.
I think it might have been just the push he needed.
I believe +411 by the '39 Yankees is the all-time record.
From now on maybe there's no point keeping score of the game, just track the run differential.
Dusty says, "screw you, Rob, just for that, I'm taking him out."
HAHAHAHA! Nicely done, "G".
I want to see Jason Werth in dreadlocks.
Half day work under Dusty
I love seeing the approach rub off on other players - some of it is Mallee maybe but when you see someone at the plate actually do it I think it means more. Javy still looks like Javy once in awhile, but he's taking stuff and going with the pitch sometimes. And he looks nothing like the Wild Thing he looked like when he came up.
It's about damn time.
We ARE getting spoiled.
