Lester held the Mets off the board for 7 innings on Wednesday but didn’t get the win in a game the Cubs won 2-0. His last win was on May 16. He beat STL on the road (7 IP, 1 ER) during his string of four wins in May. He is 1-1 with a 3.18 against them this year. The Cards are 38-111 (.319) against him. Heyward is 8-15 (.533) with a HR.

Lackey lost at home against the White Sox his last time out (7 IP, 2 ER). He is 1-0 (14.2 IP, 3 ER) versus the Cubs so far this year. Coghlan is 8-14 (.571) against him.

Hold on to your hats… and your lunch.

Go Cubs!

fowler finally finds his way out of the leadoff spot after having a .204/.282/.351 slash over 2+ months now (may 1st+). thanks dusty.

in parrot chat /waiting for Lester's head to fall off with Miggy catching

alien ant farm singing the 7th because a band that everyone forgot about over a decade ago that's from california is cubs/chicago as hell.

R. Soriano pitching in relief of Wada at AA-Tenn. 1 IP, 3K, 1H, 0 Runs. Wada 4 runs in 4 IP, 2 HR.

lester taking a no-hitter into the 6th. this message brought to you by parachat peer pressure.

Wong makes the play, Bryant makes the error, they get the runners in, we don't...every damn game against these guys.

Although, this is starting to feel more like Bulls-Bad Boy Pistons than Bears-Rodgers Packers. They are literally one play away in almost every game and it feels like a breakthrough is imminent. Pistons beat up Scottie until he grew up, Cards are doing the same thing to Addison right now. They toyed with him in STL and also tonight when runners are on base. Hopefully, he can step it up. Soon.

Ejax does the impossible -- lowers his trade value, which was already zero. Well, no sense in burning a real reliever in a game the Cubs weren't going to win anyway. Although, it would have been good to force the Cards to use their closer the day before a DH. But, as with all things Cubs-Cardinals...it went the Cardinals way.

fowler back in the leadoff spot for game 1 of the doubleheader vs lefty t.lyons. soler 4th...montero hitting 7th...russell sits for herrera.

with lester's 3sb allowed last night he passed his single-season SB-allowed mark of 22 with 24 SB...in his 17th game of the season. it was his 5th 3-SB game of the season. that said, the leads runners are taking seem to be killing him more than the SB. combined, it's free bases all over the place.

Matt Garza on the 15 day DL with shoulder tendonitis. He has a history of getting injured just before the trade deadline as I recall.

steele MRI on friday.  counsell expects an IL stint.

no current plans for his rotation replacement.

I would say also in the bright side column is Busch looked pretty good overall at the plate. Alzolay…man, that hurts but most of the time he’s not giving up a homer to that guy. To me the worst was almonte hanging that pitch to Garcia. He hung another one to the next hitter too and got away with it on an 0-1.

amaya blocked like 6-8 of smyly's pitches in the dirt very cleanly...not even an exaggeration, smyly threw a ton of pitches bouncing in tonight.

neris looking like his old self was a relief (no pun), too.

In looking for bright spots the defense was outstanding tonight. The “stars” are going to need to shine quite a bit brighter than they did tonight offensively though for this to be a successful season.

Good baseball game. Hopefully Steele is pitching again in April (but I’m not counting on it).

    boo.

smyly to face the 2/3/4 hitters with a man on 2nd in extras.

this doesn't seem like a 8 million dollar managerial decision.

i 100% agree with you, but i dunno how jed wants to run things.  the default is delay.  i would choose brown.

like hellfrozeover says, could be smyly since he's technically fresh and stretched.

anyway, on a pure talent basis....brown is the best option.

Use pitchers when you believe they're good. Don't plan their clock.

I'm sorry. I'm simply anti-clock/contract management. Play guys when they show real MLB potential talent.

If Brown hadn't been hurt with the Lat Strain he would've gotten the call, and not Wick.

    Give him a chance.

    But Wesneski probably gets it
