Cubs @ Dodgers: Hammel vs. Kershaw (Game 127)
Hammel and the Cubs have their work cut out for them, if they want to avoid a 3-game skid.
CHC (73-53): RHP Jason Hammel (7-5, 3.35)
LAD (70-56): LHP Clayton Kershaw (10-6, 2.29)
First pitch: 9:10pmCT
Hammel finally pitched well enough to stay in the game (6.1 IP, 2 ER) to win against Atlanta on Sunday. He had a no-decision against L.A. (7.2 IP, 0 ER) at Wrigley in June in a game the Cubs lost 1-0. The Dodgers are 31-119 (.261) against him. Ethier is 9-27 (.333) with 2 HR. Kendrick is 7-16 (.438). Hammel has been pitching slightly better on the road, going 5-3 with a 3.17 so far this year.
Kershaw was mortal for the first two months of the season and was even outshone by a teammate but has since returned to his dominant ways. He went 3-0 with an 0.27 in his four starts in July and is 2-0 with a 1.46 so far this month. He has been a victim of low run support all season, including his last outing, when he went 8 strong innings of 1-run ball against Houston but came away with a no-decision. The Cubs beat him at Wrigley (7 IP, 3 ER). He is 7-2 with a 1.49 at home. The Cubs are 47-191 (.246) against him. Dexter Fowler is 17-40 (.425).
Lester vs. Latos tomorrow and Arrieta vs. Wood on Sunday night.
Go Cubs!
