Dodgers @ Cubs: Wood vs Arrieta (NLCS Game 4)
LAD (3-0): LHP Alex Wood
CHC (0-3): RHP Jake Arrieta
First pitch: 8:01pmCST (TBS)
“Remember when we got swept in the NLCS?”
“Which time?”
Yeah, it’s the bad. After putting together a pretty solid second half and emerging from the NLCS in dramatic fashion, the Cubs are on the brink of elimination. This time is actually worse since 2015 came out of nowhere. We know this team is championship caliber; they just aren't playing like it. Of course, they are 4-0 in their last four elimination games, but luck only gets you so far, especially with a bullpen like this one.
Arrieta takes the mound for the Cubs, in what very likely could be his last with the team. Take a good look, my friends, and remember all of the good times because they were really good.
Jake took the loss against the Nationals in Game Four, giving up an unearned run in four innings and throwing 90 pitches. He lost to the Dodgers in LA in May (6 IP, 4 Er, 9 K, 1 BB). For their careers, the Dodgers are 15-88 (.170) against him—a no-hitter tends to do that to the batting average.
Alex Wood (16-3, 2.72 for the season) goes for the Dodgers. He beat the Cubs in May, going 5 scoreless. Overall, the Cubs are 14-63 (.222) against him. Bryant is 3-8 with a HR. The Dodgers haven’t needed Wood in the playoffs, so this will be his first appearance since Sept. 26.
In case you need a history lesson: the only team to ever come back from a 3-0 deficient was the 2004 Red Sox against the Yankees in the ALCS, the team led by one Theo Epstein. I hope they break out the Mama Juana because this team needs a drink.
Go Cubs!
