Peoria Chiefs to Auction Off Senate Seats in 2009

In keeping with the ongoing story of the Chicago political scene, the Peoria Chiefs (A) have decided to auction off "Senate Seats" this season.

Just as the United States Senate Seat vacated by President-Elect Barack Obama is viewed as the best opening in the Senate, the “Senate Seats” will be the two best seats in the house for Chiefs games.

The seats, which are located in the second row of section 108, are directly behind home plate and protected by the screen sell for $10 per game. They will be available via auction on the Chiefs website at www.peoriachiefs.com beginning February 1. The auctions will end 24 hours prior to each home game and begin at $20. All proceeds from the “Senate Seat Auctions” will go into a pot which will be distributed at the end the season among various local charities.

“These are the two best seats in the house and a great location to experience the on-field entertainment and watch Peoria Chiefs baseball,” said Chiefs President Rocky Vonachen. “The open senate seat in Illinois is very popular and has caused quite a stir locally. We hope that our two Chiefs “Senate seats” create the same water cooler talk and allow us to help some local charities in the process.”

Yeah, just like baseball fantasy camp, which, I know, some clubs do just before spring training. I have a friend who does the Rockies fantasy camp every year. They play with a few real players, and a bunch of other fantasy guys... The "pay to play" premise would be especially appropriate for Peoria, though...

Off topic and re-posted from the other thread -- Taken from MLBTradeRumors: Per Joel Sherman, the Yankees -- "He says they'll now attempt to trade one of Johnny Damon, Hideki Matsui, Xavier Nady, and Nick Swisher." Awesome news. Nady? Swisher? Matsui? Suddenly, a whole new market for OF opens up.

Does Cincy have the payroll to add Manny? Seems like they could probably clear a little space more space (Arroyo?) and fit him in. Besides the Dodgers, who already have four starting outfielders, all the other teams you would think would want him, Angels, Yanks, Mets have intimated their not interested.

" Gathright can play RF and be a pesky leadoff hitter -- assuming he can learn to take a pitch or two. Seriously, why am I NOT the Cubs GM?" --Brad, Twin Cities, Minn. What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Can someone please explain to me why the Cubs seem so hot on Bradley instead of Abreu? Everything I read says the Cubs are going after Bradley, but have not expressed any interest in Abreu. What upside does Bradley have over Abreu? What am I missing here?

#12 my reasoning is bradley comes at a cheaper price then again maybe cubs are waiting for abreu market to come down before jumping in, i would think abreu would like to play for cubs wonder if a 2 year contarct for 25 million would work say 11 million then 14 million in 2nd year

The other part that’s kind of crazy is they made two very high profile trades, one for Goldschmidt and one for Arenado, and they very clearly won those trades. They just haven’t been able to develop players the last handful of years the way they usually do.

I guess the moral there is it’s hard to stay on top of your game and be good at what you do in perpetuity.

Marmol was extended at the beginning of the year. Two years I believe.

Craig Counsell doesn’t have a timetable for Cody Bellinger who technically has two cracked ribs on his right side. CT scan showed it today.

Thought it might have been David Peralta given the open 40 man spot and how PCA has played so far.

I hope they keep Mozeliak a few more years. Marmol too!

    welp...

    bellinger...fractured rib.

a not-very-ready PCA will probably be called up when it would be much better for him to be in AAA getting regular ABs.

i have no hard data, but i'm seeing the same thing.

there used to be some parks where that was rampant (colorado during the todd helton days comes to mind), but i'm seeing it all over the place the past couple seasons.

I’ll spare the details which I’ve stated before but, in short, the Cardinals have lost their sight of their successful identity and strategy over last several dominant decades. From the beginning of the season I saw the Cardinals being in last place or near it again this year, and my prediction is that Mozeliak will be gone after the end of the season.
