Can't you just ban people? This is my #1 feed for cubs info, and it's sad that I have to see a couple people raining feces upon an otherwise nice little community. And now baseball: Is Derrek Lee the new Chicago Jesus, or what? What he's doing with the baseball is just crazy.

If the season ended today, Derrek Lee would win the Triple Crown. Unreal this late in the season, being over 25% complete. Does anyone know the longest a player has held the lead in the Triple Crown stats since Yaz last did it?

I go away for two weeks and look what happens! Anyway.... Could someone email me and let me know what happened to the site? Oh yeah, on a Cub related note, anyone who watched the game on Friday got to see me sitting in the front row behind home plate for the whole thing. I'm the Sosa jersey wearing guy next to the hot blonde. Did anyone see? Lemme know. Lastly, back to .500! Thats a once you get there, its like a magic number. Anything can happen from here. Go Cubs. (See y'all at the Tuesday and Wednesday games in LA. I won't be in that good of seats though)

Aqc, wasn't Manny in contention for it for quite a while last year? If I remember correctly, he was neck and neck with Pudge in the average stakes a few months in and with Ortiz in one of the other categories. Then in the second half Manny slumped and Ichiro simply went crazy.

Yeah, I think we all deserve to know a bit about the people who were banned, and why. We're all curious, and it would also serve as a good warning for everyone in the future. I trust that there will be a story posted about the events once the dust has settled?

After the Cubs stop worrying about catching the Cardinals (which is unlikely to happen and is only going to make the Cubs frustrated), maybe they will understand that they are only 3 1/2 games out of first place in the National League's 4th Division, AKA the "Wild Card." And that one of the team they are playing on the upcoming road trip (that being the Dodgers) is ahead of them in this 4th division: N. L. WILD CARD (as of May 30th): Atlanta 28-21 Arizona 29-22 L. A. 26-23 2 GB N. Y. Mets 26-25 3 GB CUBS 24-24 3.5 GB Stop worrying about the Csrdinals!!! The Wild Card is the Ticket!!! Go Cubs!!

John Hill, Yes, you're right. I guess what I was asking was how late in the season did Manny or Vlad or anyone else actually own the lead in all three? Either way, you bring up a good point--people probably get close all the time before June. I'm just floored by Derrek. Arizona Phil, I agree completely. Once the playoffs start, [insert cliche here]. Only thing is we want that marker on the right to be all 0s. It looks much better that way!

Phil, I just came here to post one thing: 1/4 through the season and 7.5 back - STRIKING DISTANCE Also, lets face it at 24 up and 24 down we need to go @70 and 44 the rest of the way to win either one. I would also contend that assuming that all other wild card teams will not win 94+ is a far as a stretch as the Cards coming back to the pack. In other words we need a lot of help no matter what. Regardless, focus doesn't matter anyway. The Cubs need to win games. And it won't be easy. LA is slumping but then we face SD, Tor and Bos so I think that we will have a much better grasp on this season two weeks from tonight. I contend that if we are over .500 after these next four series, this team can contend. If not, we may have a problem.

There's no way we're catching St Louis over the course of the season, they are a better ballclub. The wild card is the Cubs' only shot, and IMO it's a long shot at that. Having 5 teams in front of you at the (almost) 1/3 point of the season is not a good sign. Having said that...the Cubs simply need to be at .500 ball come August 1. If so, they have a chance. By then, they should hopefully have Prior and Wood back, and Hendry ought to have made a trade or two. Late August maybe Nomar returns, and the Cubs have a shot at the Wild Card if they play say, 12 games over .500 for the last 1/3 of the season. Again, a stretch, but possible....

I'm someone who will comment occasionally, but doesn't want to post a real email addy and is too lazy to keep inventing new ones. Have people register and deal with that. Without comments, the site is way too static. I'd love to believe the Cubs could go on a run, but I'm skeptical. Despite my plans to go to San Diego and see the 4-game series. Prior going down did really bum me out. That's one game in five that you could pretty much count on a win. I don't see the Cubs matching that right now. One thing I will say: no more injured players, please. Nomar was great (not with the Cubs, but ya know) ... but let's try Cedeno next year. Let's just not load up on injured players anymore.

Can't give out much info right now regarding what we know about the two guys behind the rash of annoyances, or what we're working on as means of stopping and punishing them, other than to promise that we're pretty far along, on both counts.

To make room on the 40-man roster for the two pitchers acquired in the 2-for-1 deal for LaTroy Hawkins, the Cubs have transferred Nomar Garciaparra to the 60-day DL. Though he has supposedly "retired," David Crouthers remains on the Cubs 40-man roster.

Let's see.....My name is Brian D. Mick. I was born in Chicago, IL in 1974. Shortly before i was a year old, my father finished graduate school and our family moved to Colorado where we lived for 5 years. At age 6, we moved to Iowa. I spent the remainder of my childhood and early adult years in Iowa City, IA. Growing up, I played many sports, but excelled the most in baseball. I began playing when I was about 3 or 4 years old. I became a Cubs fan the very first day we lived in Iowa. The Cubs were on WGN and my father, a Pittsburgh native and long-time Pittsburgh Pirates fan, tuned into the Cubs game. That's all it took for me. It began an addiction I will never be able to break. Upon graduation from highschool I had enrolled at the University of Iowa right there in Iowa City. I had planned to become an electrical engineer. I had always excelled in math as a child, but found out at the beginning of my sophomore year that the mathematics I needed to master was simply beyond my grasp and then I had to begin my search for what I wanted to do with the rest of my life. Spending 3 weeks in that previous summer in Russia I found myself intrigued with the great and terrible history of that nation. Entering my junior year I declared myself a history major. My life was about to change though. Waking up one morning early in the fall semester, junior year I had this eery feeling something was not right. Soon enough that feeling intensified and I immediately turned my attention to my roommate and dear friend who had clearly not been out of bed even though he had an early class. I knew then my roommate had died. He died in his sleep from multiple seizures, a disability I also suffer from. Things began to spiral out of control for me following his death. Drugs and alocohol followed by a little bit of school and more drugs and alcohol consumed my life for the next few years. During that period I felt the need to get away. I transferred to the University of Arizona thinking a fresh start would help set me on the right track. It didn't. 2 years later, and only about one year of college completed, I packed my bags once again and headed back to the University of Colorado. After one more year of school and coming to realize I had to straighten my life out or I would never have the chance to do it, I sobered up. Finally, after 6 long years of undergraduate school, I got my degree in History from the University of Colorado. Luckily, with a small contribution from my father, I was able to attend graduate school at Northern Arizona in Flagstaff. After completing my Master's Degree I went back to Iowa City and earned my PhD. at the University of Iowa. My major area of interest was in Russian history, specifically the years of 1790-1830. My minor areas of interest were in Mexican history and US history. I just recently married for the first time and have my first child due in September of this year. I have spent the last 2 years teaching US History and World History. - I understand my actions the other day were inappropriate. My behavior was uncalled for. And the racial overtures I so often used were both disgusting and irresponsible. They were also in no way indicative of who I really am. I cannot apologize enough for my childish and irrational actions, but I will try anyway. I am truly sorry for my offensive, dispicable, and irresponsible actions. Just know that I will not do this again.

    Is it just me or does it seem that official scorers are becoming less likely to call a misplay an error? 

     

    Guess I've hit my cranky old-man phase in life.  "I remember back in the day when an error was an error.  Official scorers have gone soft.  Now where did I put my readers?!!??"

     

    Sidenote, maybe Bellinger should be a little more careful against the Astros.  That was the series last year that a play at wall put him on the IL.

    i hated the almonte pickup, but he's 9-10 out of 12 for good outings, following a great spring.  hope he can keep it up.

    i already miss cooper, but yeah...the thin OF roster backup the team seems to want to carry probably got wisdom preference over cooper.  i could live without seeing wisdom at 3rd unless it's a blowout, though.

    Things I've been wrong about:

    -Tauchman is fine as a 4th OF. I knew that. I just want a better LH DH option and he was really the DH for us until Seiya got hurt. I'm glad Mervis is getting a chance at it. Caissie is coming for that job for sure. But Tauchman continues to be highly useful as a 4th OF with Seiya being hurt

    -I wanted Yency to go to get guys at Iowa a chance. Guys like Palencia and Sanders or RileyT. Maybe even Hodge! But Yency has been better the last two plus weeks. He did hit 96 the other day. He was 93 in Texas to open the season.

    -Leiter has his split working enough. It just needs to stay there

    -I was surprised Jed picked Wisdom over Cooper. I wonder if this happens if Seiya wasn't hurt. Wisdom has more power. Cooper is the better hitter. Jed picked Wisdom and Wisdom had an option left as well.

    -Palencia just doesn't miss enough bats. Similar to ManRod, just two yrs younger. ManRod is killing AAA for TB right now!

    Things I got right so far:

    -Hendricks. Sorry Kyle. You got paid though!

    Jed, you missed there.

    -Smyly. If Jed could've traded him before or during ST, then he should have and saved some cash.

    -Mastro.  Not a LH DH. Pinch runner. Defensive utility. Maybe he's better than Madrigal but didn't get a legit chance to prove it.

    -Luke Little is good. He's had one bad outing. That's it. Needs to get better entering with guys on base. But he needs to stay in MLB.

    -Oh yeah....Morel is doing fine at 3B! He'll get better as well!!

    South Bend just lost the lead in the bottom of the 9th on the weirdest scenario, ever.

    It's absolutely pouring rain....men on 1st and 2nd, 1out....JPatterson asks for a new ball, but no time out was called....he throws the old ball toward the dugout (not sure if it rolled out of play).....the ump declares the runners get two bases each so one run scores. Then a single up the middle ties the game.

    The rain was coming down in buckets at this point.

    hopefully his rib cage/shoulder feels better tomorrow, we just got happ back.

    morel with 4 clean plays in 4 innings...showed off his 100000000mph arm a couple times.

    cody bellinger not having a good 4th, though...5 run leads are handy when your CF is making your pitcher have a 5-out inning.  2nd blown chance was ruled a hit even though it went in/out of his glove...1st was lost in the lights, also ruled a hit.
