Matt Cain's a pretty high-end prospect who's struggled out of the gate in 2006. I'm sure tonight will be a huge confidence booster for the kid. At least with Z on the mound, the chances of Bonds getting drilled skyrocket. Do something!

Plunk Bonds! PLUNK!!!!!! I can't stand lookin gup the result of each game evry morning.b Today, I saw a headline on FOX that said "Cubs Outfielder Robs Bonds of #714". Cubs Outfielder That's what Pierre is to FOX. I know FOX isn't the authority, but I thought it was funny. Obviously Pierre pales in any sort of comparion to Bonds on any stat, any split, etc. FOX didn't feel it necessary to name Pierre. Back to important matters, I want Z to plunk Bonds one time too few to get tossed. I hate that prick.

Love the names in the lineup... what a hoot!

Did anyone think Pierre would be this horrible? Did anyone see this coming? I hated him and knew he sucked shit through a straw and was pissed when we traded THREE prospects to get him, but even I didn't think he'd be THIS bad. And through 120 plus AB's!!! This is not a fluke! This is his season!

GOOD BASEBALL FINALLY... Good job by Cedeno to get on base leading off teh inning, good job stealing 2nd, good job by pierre bunting him over and Walker put teh ball in play for teh RBI. NICE!! GOOD BASEBALL by all 3 guys.

Horatio- i didn't think he would be this bad, but the biggest problem with the trade is not getting him, but giving up 3 pitching prosects for him and basically having to no plan to sign him long term. If we don't resign him, then hendry rented a player for a year and gave away 3 pitching prospects....UGH

Good lineup description. Just wanted to let you know your link to Jacque Jones is incorrect. Thanks for thr good work.

good first inning fundamental baseball. just wondering what took so long to make a change? guess in the baker book you have to get an officiall letter from the "mendoza line" committee that one of your players is approaching to make adjustments.

Wow...Murton gets on base and then Jones launches a home run...Nice start for the Cubs tonight...up 3-1 in the 2nd inning...we haven't seen this type of momentum in weeks...;-)

Yeah, that was great fundamental baseball- right up until the point that Carlos didn't cover first for that double play. WHAT THE FUCK!?!?!! Then it cost him a run and how many extra pitches. I can't fucking believe this shit. And he still had that stupid smirk on his face. Steve Stone just said on the Score on Monday that over the last three years "you still have pitchers not covering first." Stoney is a god. I blame Carlos first- but they're paying Dusty $4 million a year to have pitchers still not cover first base on a routine double play- what the fuck is he managing exactly?

Nazey- So you think Dusty should bench Carlos for not covering the bag? Send a message?? If not, what else do you want him to do? Yell at him?? Derrke Lee teh otehr day said all those kind of mistakes aer addressed in the clubhouse, so again, what else do you want him to do? Rip him in the press or make a scene in the dugout? Pitchers work on covering the bag 1,000 times in ST. This is the big leagues, they know what they need to do. The players we have just aren't very good...

Manny- You're right- there's not a whole lot he can do about it. But, all I want is someone, anyone, on the Cubs to mention it. If the Cubs win tonight, it won't matter. Hell, it's not a huge deal at this point. But I wouldn't say they work on those things 1000 times in ST, at least not the Cubs. Otherwise it wouldn't happen as often as it does with this frickin team. And why do those things only get worked on in ST? Do they go into a mental lapse once April 1 hits the calendar? Perhaps Dusty could say something like, "Before batting practice tomorrow I want all the pitchers on the field to practice covering first." Bill Parcells tells a great story about these types of miscues. When he was starting out as a position coach, he was going over certain fundamentals/execution with one of his players about a particular scheme. When the game came and that same player blew the scheme- despite having worked on it tirelessly with Parcells- Parcells berated him for it. Then the head coach came over (I don't know who it was at the time) and berated Parcells. When Parcells mentioned how it's out of his hands once the player takes the field, the head coach told him that it's the coach's fault for not making sure the player understood how to execute the scheme. Parcells uses that allusion to illustrate the point that winning coaches/managers take accountability for player's mental lapses, even when you have every right to blame the player. Blame Carlos first, yes. But fucking blame Dusty too- not for one isolated instance, but for 3+ years of the same broken record when it comes to fundamentals- or lack there of.

If Big Z keeps walking too many players the Cubs will have trouble staying ahead of the Giants.

Hey Giants fans (not that there's Giants fans on here)- Bonds just struck out on a fat two seamer down the pipes. Now go back to your cell phones and conversations you suckasses. A bunch of Bonds apologists and wagon jumpers, hope your $85 nosebleeds are worth the 65 seconds you pay attention.

Manny- now that was a nice play at first by Z. That's sound fundamental baseball baby. The way I like to see it. Looks like he indeed learned his lesson.

not good baseball by Mabry. 0 outs and guys on 2nd and 3rd and can't get him in...UGH BAD BASEBALL MABRY!!!

Holy shit- 6 runs in one game? Save 'em guys, save em. We may need them for our next 8 game slide. I will say this- I'm not a Jockstrap Jones fan at this point- but that was a nice hustle play with the bases loaded to get to second. That's 3 hits and 4 RBI for JJ. Probably his entire May output, but I'll take it dude.

to second someone's comments from on here a few days ago, "i wish i could quit you, cubs" i just checked the standings and schedule. apparently all it takes is 6 good innings and i get my hopes up again. yikes. i am still of the persuasion that this division really sucks (actually, the whole NL kinda sucks). we shall see.

Jones is FINALLY turning into an RBI machine...Ramirez is getting timely hits...Murton is more patient at the plate...Pierre is getting on base and running well...It's 6-1 lead and the Cubs are starting to build up some serious momentum...The offense is waking up (with a little help from the young Giants pitcher)...Yet, I like this 6-1 lead and I want to see Dempster close out a game...It's time to start to reverse this streak and go for another win with Marshall starting for the Cubs tomorrow.

Jacque Jones bandwagon accepting applications.

Zambrano has settled down and I think he has retired at least 7 in a row now...He is very talented but his challenge is focussing and throwing strikes when he really needs to.

Dear RobG: Well done sir. You realize you're going to have to come up with NEW sardonic nicknames for the starting 9 for the rest of the season, right?

I don't know who the Fox SF color man is on the MLB extra innings package, but he made an excellent observation re: Aramis' 2 run double -- very nice to see Aramis FINALLY hit the outside fastball to RF with authority. He's been trying to pull the ball like crazy in just about all rbi situations -- seems he's at his best (see 2004) when he's hitting ropes to RF/RF-CF on outside fastballs.

Cubs win! Cubs win! Oh my God, it's over!!! It's really over!!!

I take clain on this win! The reverse net name is now 1-0!! Go Cubs!!!

CUBS WIN!! IN DUSTY WE TRUSTY!! It s a miracle.....

Yes Manny...it is a miracle that anyone would trust Dusty... :)

The Cubs win in a convincing way...where has this offense been in the last 10 days...? Lets hope the Cubs can build on this momentum and win the series against the Giants -- It's time to start a real winning streak...we're 3 games below .500 and The Cubs have LOTS of ground to make up in a tough division.

I looked down at my turkey sandwich and swear I saw the shadow of Jesus Christ looking back at me. He was crying with happiness. It's a mircle!!!

Dave: "Yes Manny...it is a miracle that anyone would trust Dusty... :)" I think the same way about Hendry...:)

Well done sir. You realize you're going to have to come up with NEW sardonic nicknames for the starting 9 for the rest of the season, right? Apparently this team was in need of some tough love, it's not always about hugs and kisses, sometimes you have to call them out. :) I definitely have to keep it up until they lose again. Never f*** with a winning streak.

Good lineup description. Just wanted to let you know your link to Jacque Jones is incorrect. Thanks for thr good work. thanks, damn autolinking, grabbed the wrong jones.

phil rogers hacky ass self mailed that article in... he makes a "shocking" headline and then doesnt even get to the point about hendry til the last 3-4 paragraphs of his rant. the hack thing about it is he KNOWS better...he's been at this a long time and he knows what he's trying to do there. maybe he's not getting enough "clicks" compared to other columnists...maybe ESPN isn't giving him enough work...maybe he feels he's the man to put the pressure on hendry, though hendry's not exactly sitting on his ass over the 1st base situation.

You know I just felt better seeing this line-up toinight. Putting Mabry at 1B makes more sense than having Hairston (Puke) or Perez (Dry-heave-puke). Although it really is all about the pitching. If we get this type of pitching little bitch offense or not, we can win just like the Asros and Sox did last year. Speaking of the Astros it made me feel a little better knowing they've dropped 6 straight themselves.

You guys can end the commando rally now. Congratulations! (You don't have to stop if you don't want to...)

Re: Dusty and the covering first thing, consider how Scott Skiles would handle an analogous problem for the Bulls. Even after wins, Skiles always makes sure everyone is clear about his level of satisfaction in the performance.

    madrigal at 3rd...morel at DH.

making room for madrigal or/and masterboney to get a significant amount of ABs is a misuse of the roster.  if it needed to get taken care of this offseason, they had tons of time to figure that out.

morel played almost exclusively at 3rd in winter ball and they had him almost exclusively there all spring when he wasn't DH'ing.

madrigal doing a good job with the glove for a bit over 2 chances per game...is that worth more than what he brings with the bat 4-5 PA a game?  it's 2024 and we got glenn beckert 2.0 manning 3rd base.

this is a tauchman or cooper DH situation based on bat, alone.  cooper is 3/7 with a double off eovaldi if you want to play the most successful matchup.

anyway, i hope this is a temporary thing, not business as usual.

There are two clear "logjams" in the Cubs minor league pipeline at the present time, namely AA outfielders (K. Alcantara, C. Franklin, Roederer, Pagan, Pinango, Beesley, and Nwogu) and Hi-A infielders (J. Rojas, P. Ramirez, Howard, R. Morel, Pertuz, R. Garcia, and Spence, although Morel has been getting a lot of reps in the outfield in addition to infield). So it is possible that you might see a trade involving one of the extra outfielders at AA and/or one of the extra infielders at Hi-A in the next few days.

18-year old SS Jefferson Rojas almost made the AA Tennessee Opening Day roster, and he is a legit shortstop, so I would expect him to be an MLB Top 100 prospect by mid-season.

  • Arizona Phil (view)

Among the relievers in the system, I expect RHRP Hunter Bigge at AAA Iowa and RHRP Ty Johnson at South Bend to have breakout seasons on 2024, and among the starters I see LHP Drew Gray and RHP Will Sanders at South Bend and RHP Naz Mule at ACL Cubs as the guys who will make the biggest splash. Also, Jaxon Wiggins is throwing bullpen sides, so once he is ready for game action he could be making an impact at Myrtle Beach by June.

  • Arizona Phil (view)

I expect OF Christian Franklin to have a breakout season at AA Tennessee in 2024. In another organization that doesn't have PCA, Caissie, K. Alcantara, and Canario in their system, C. Franklin would be a Top 10 prospect.

The Reds trading Joe Boyle for Sam Moll at last year's MLB Trade Deadline was like the Phillies trading Ben Brown to the Cubs for David Robertson at the MLB TD in 2022.

Javier Assad started the Lo-A game (Myrtle Beach versus Stockton) on the Cubs backfields on Wednesday as his final Spring Training tune-up. He was supposed to throw five innings / 75 pitches. However, I was at the minor league road games at Fitch so I didn't see Assad pitch.

    cards put j.young on waivers.

they really tried to make it happen this spring, but he put up a crazy bad slash of .081/.244/.108 in 45PA.
