And so it falls to Cub ace Carlos Zambrano on this, Hack Wilson's 108th birthday, to reverse the curse:

The Chicago Cubs have never won a game in Washington's Natonals Park. For the love of God, they've never even held a lead!!!

The Chicago offense went hitless in seven AB's with men in scoring position in Friday night's 5-3 defeat. Ryan Theriot, however, was able to extend his National League lead in Caught Stealing.

Like last night's Nats starter, Odalis Perez, and Sunday's starter, John Lannan, Chico throws with the wrong hand. So be it--Cubs enter the game 6-2 vs. left-handed starters this year after going 19-23 against southpaws in '07. (Chico did stifle the Cubs with seven shutout innings in the only Washington victory over Piniella's crew last season.)

Zambrano is coming off a 7-inning, 1-run effort on Monday against the Mets, a game the Cubs captured, 7-1. He walked two men in that game. Two--that's his high for the season.

How nice is it to be able to say that?

wtf just happened in LA? ambulance on the field for an ump but the announcers seem to be content calling it "the incident" and not showing footage or talking about it.

Penny hit Kerwin Danley in the chin with 96 and knocked him out cold in the 4th. Russell Martin just didn't catch it, apparently. Meanwhile, in the bottom of the first, Mark Redman gave up 10 runs and Clint Hurdle left him in. I cannot possibly begin to understand that. Haven't been following Colorado very closely, but I don't believe that the Rockies bullpen is so burned that he's got to leave Redman out there to go down with the ship.

Wes: Meanwhile, in the bottom of the first, Mark Redman gave up 10 runs and Clint Hurdle left him in. I cannot possibly begin to understand that. I agree, that's almost hostile, unless the guy REALLY wants to mop up his own game, getting lit in the process. crunch: ambulance on the field for an ump but the announcers seem to be content calling it "the incident" and not showing footage or talking about it. Probably because if the dude died or something, it would be bad form to keep showing replays.

yeah, was just wondering what exactly happened. espn and COL's announce team both shared footage (at nearly the same time) when the medical report was released. im sure it was showed after it happened until they realized the severity of the situation to find out what happened. i just stumbled into the aftermath of realization. all i knew when i tuned in was an ambulance was there, they were talking about an ump being taken away, and how other umps were consoling martin/penny and martin was shaken up. thnx guys.

Yes he did, but in that particular situation, his bullpen was so burned up late in the season that he almost didn't have a choice. Marquis had to give him 4 or 5 innings even if he gave up 20 runs, which he almost did. The difference is that this is April, and I don't think that Colorado's bullpen is toast right now. They did get a short start from Jiminez on Friday, but they got 8 strong from Cook against us on Thursday and 6 from Morales on Wednesday. I understand not wanting to throw your pen 8+ on Saturday after they threw 6+ on Friday, but it's April. Can't leave your #4 out there to give up a 10 spot.

masterboney is a luxury on a team that has multiple, capable options for 2nd, SS, and 3rd without him around.  i don't hate the guy, but if madrigal is sticking around then masterboney is expendable.

I THINK I agree with that decision. They committed to Wicks as a starter and, while he hasn’t been stellar I don’t think he’s been bad enough to undo that commitment.

That said, Wesneski’s performance last night dictates he be the next righty up.

Quite the dilemma. They have many good options, particularly in relief, but not many great ones. And complicating the situation is that the pitchers being paid the most are by and large performing the worst - or in Taillon’s case, at least to this point, not at all.

    Wesneski and Mastrobuoni to Iowa

    Taillon and Wisdom up

Wesneski can't pitch for a couple of days after the 4 IP from last night. But Jed picked Wicks over Wesneski.

cubs getting crazy good at not having player moves leak.

taillon we 100% know is pitching tonight.  who he's replacing and any additional moves are unknown as far as i can tell.

p.wisdom was not in today's lineup in iowa (rained out) and he was removed from the game last night mid-game, but not for injury.  good bet he's with the team in the bigs, too.

A good rule of thumb is that if you trade a near-ready high ceiling prospect, you should get at least two far-away high ceiling prospects in return.  Like all rules-of-thumb, it depends upon the specific circumstances, but certainly, we weren't going to get Busch for either prospect alone.

Right on schedule, just read an article in Baseball America entitled "10 MLB Prospects Outside The Top 100 Who Have Our Attention".  Zyhir Hope was one of the prospects featured. It stated that he's "one of the biggest arrow-up sleeper prospects in the lower levels right now."

Not sharing to be negative about the trade, getting a top 100 prospect who is MLB ready should carry a heavy prospect cost.  But man, Dodger sure are good at identifying and developing young talent. Andrew Friedman seems to have successfully merged Ray's development with Yankees financial might to create a juggernaut of an organization.

I suspect Brown will spend some time in the bullpen due to inning restrictions.  Pitched only 93 innings last year and career high is 104 innings in 2022.  I would expect them to be cautious with a young player with his injury history.

I wanted Almonte gone last week, but that was before Merryweather went down and Little got demoted. Almonte in his last 5 appearances has gone 4.1 IP with no ER or Runs. NO hits, 3 BBs and 8 SO. He did hit 96 with his 2S FB in AZ on Tues.
I don't see Jed waiving him when we have injuries all over and guys with options that can be sent down.
I probably won't like the move Jed makes, but he can't play the "let's hope no one wants his 1.7mil remaining deal and we can hide him in Iowa" card.
That's why I think the current Bullpen stays as is and Wicks goes to Iowa.
I don't like that, but that's the fix I see.
    We'll find out soon enough!!!
