Fuzzy Math

There are some around here who jokingly believe that if (and let's hope it's more like when) Dusty gets fired we won't have much to talk about around here. I'm starting to believe it myself because I just can't imagine another manager out there who could say so many non-sensical things for us to debate. Dusty's latest foray is this gem courtesy of The Daily Herald when asked about the Braves 14 year playoff run likely coming to a halt this season:
"It's more weird for me not preparing for the playoffs than the Braves. The Braves, 15 years in a row, that's a heck of a run"
As Miles points out in his article, since the Braves started racking up division titles in the early 90's, it's Braves 14 and Baker 4 in the race to the postseason. I'll miss you Dusty, kind of like missing the crazy, drunk aunt at Thanksgiving dinner.

Post season four times maybe, but I think he's been in the hunt more than that. Cubs 03, 04 San Fran 93, 97, 98, 00, 01, 02

So we are counting "in the hunt" now? Boy lets just lower those standards to "being .500 is just as good as a WS."

not to cheapen anything, but some of those seasons (not all) the teams were in it right up until and into september in a legit realm. still...its just another dustyism. sounds like another joking around 1/2assed statement. dont think he's trying to convey "the braves? but..but..what about ME?!?!? i'm hurting here! i'm not used to this!! ive been 4 times and though 14 is greater than 4 it doesnt involve me therefore its not in my realm of comprehention." i sometimes with transcripts of press conferences for sports figures and full interviews were more easily accessable as they are for politics. no big deal, but it'd be nice to find it more often than currently available for the general public.

Nah, Hendry will be here for another two years minimum so all the regulars on this board will have his failures to beat to death. The tide seems to have shifted a bit towards Hendry's side already anyway. Next year will be just as pathetic with this starting rotation so you all will have plenty to disect. It will be "interesting" to see the Baker bashers flipflop Mariotti style over to Hendry.

He truly is the stupidest man in baseball. And that is saying a lot considering the competition just from this organization.

so why was maddux pulled after 5.1ip (61 pitches)? doesnt seem to be injury related. tomko just gave up maddux's 2-1 lead, btw.

cause he's maddux and he decided he was done. Did he already go through the lineup 3 times or something?

he was starting to get hit, but he intentionally walked beltran then had a guy come in to pitch specifically to delgado. just seems to be a pretty weird ditching of maddux...i was in the kitchen when he got pulled.

Petem: "Nah, Hendry will be here for another two years minimum so all the regulars on this board will have his failures to beat to death." WHAT?? No they won't. They haven't yet, no reason to start. Anyways another anti-Dusty posts...SHOCKING!! ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

Wow and Manny keeps on trolling, that shocks no one on this site.

So, Manny, do you think we should resign Baker to a new contract? Maybe 10 years? Lifetime? I mean, he is so amazing I can't believe anybody would question him.

yahoo says it was after 72 pitches for maddux, fwiw. I'm guessing they wanted a lefty to face Delgado who had already homered and flied to deep center. I don't know what their history is like between Delgado and Maddux.

Anyways, once again the Dusty apologists can't defend Dusty's actions, so they bitch and moan because someone dares to question their savior.... SHOCKING!!

CBA update... http://tinyurl.com/pmu3b Likely no work stoppage, everyone seems happy, apparently they agreed back in 2002 to get rid of draft pick compensation for free agents but couldn't agree on the language for the contract. It seems that they won't let it happen this time. That could sure screw some teams over including the Cubs if it goes into effect for the next draft. (Pierre and Ramirez particularly)

the chances of owners letting that happen for the next draft is really really really slim. a lotta teams made trades (or avoided them) based upon the current system being in effect next draft. there's just way too many teams who would shoot themselves in the foot if that happened.

And MIKEC keeps on bullying, that shocks nobody on the site either.

Bill K.: "So, Manny, do you think we should resign Baker to a new contract? Maybe 10 years? Lifetime?" Never said that, but I think it is amazing the amount of complaints about Baker proportionatley to Hendry. To me it makes no sense, but lots about Cubs and Cubs fans make very little sense to me.

I don't think Hendry told the dustbag to keep patterson and perez 1-2 in the batting order, nor order a bunt in the first after a leadoff single, nor start glendone in any games at all. The list could go on and on, but iy's just too easy to figure out on your own.

"it is amazing the amount of complaints about Baker proportionatley to Hendry." It's simple to explain. Baker makes dumb moves every day. Hendry doesn't. Baker has a press conference after every game and says dumb things. Hendry doesn't.

"To me it makes no sense, but lots about Cubs and Cubs fans make very little sense to me." -- I have a feeling that lots of everything makes little sense to you.

There's a lot more anti-Hendry sentiments around there than there was 4 months ago MannyTrillo. Wake up.

masterboney is a luxury on a team that has multiple, capable options for 2nd, SS, and 3rd without him around.  i don't hate the guy, but if madrigal is sticking around then masterboney is expendable.

I THINK I agree with that decision. They committed to Wicks as a starter and, while he hasn’t been stellar I don’t think he’s been bad enough to undo that commitment.

That said, Wesneski’s performance last night dictates he be the next righty up.

Quite the dilemma. They have many good options, particularly in relief, but not many great ones. And complicating the situation is that the pitchers being paid the most are by and large performing the worst - or in Taillon’s case, at least to this point, not at all.

    Wesneski and Mastrobuoni to Iowa

    Taillon and Wisdom up

Wesneski can't pitch for a couple of days after the 4 IP from last night. But Jed picked Wicks over Wesneski.

cubs getting crazy good at not having player moves leak.

taillon we 100% know is pitching tonight.  who he's replacing and any additional moves are unknown as far as i can tell.

p.wisdom was not in today's lineup in iowa (rained out) and he was removed from the game last night mid-game, but not for injury.  good bet he's with the team in the bigs, too.

A good rule of thumb is that if you trade a near-ready high ceiling prospect, you should get at least two far-away high ceiling prospects in return.  Like all rules-of-thumb, it depends upon the specific circumstances, but certainly, we weren't going to get Busch for either prospect alone.

Right on schedule, just read an article in Baseball America entitled "10 MLB Prospects Outside The Top 100 Who Have Our Attention".  Zyhir Hope was one of the prospects featured. It stated that he's "one of the biggest arrow-up sleeper prospects in the lower levels right now."

Not sharing to be negative about the trade, getting a top 100 prospect who is MLB ready should carry a heavy prospect cost.  But man, Dodger sure are good at identifying and developing young talent. Andrew Friedman seems to have successfully merged Ray's development with Yankees financial might to create a juggernaut of an organization.

I suspect Brown will spend some time in the bullpen due to inning restrictions.  Pitched only 93 innings last year and career high is 104 innings in 2022.  I would expect them to be cautious with a young player with his injury history.

I wanted Almonte gone last week, but that was before Merryweather went down and Little got demoted. Almonte in his last 5 appearances has gone 4.1 IP with no ER or Runs. NO hits, 3 BBs and 8 SO. He did hit 96 with his 2S FB in AZ on Tues.
I don't see Jed waiving him when we have injuries all over and guys with options that can be sent down.
I probably won't like the move Jed makes, but he can't play the "let's hope no one wants his 1.7mil remaining deal and we can hide him in Iowa" card.
That's why I think the current Bullpen stays as is and Wicks goes to Iowa.
I don't like that, but that's the fix I see.
    We'll find out soon enough!!!
