looks like it's pouring at Shea at the moment, unfortunately the audio went out on my mlb.tv to get an update.

you have got to think they will wait this out. I don't think they will want to have a double header tomorrow on travel day.

Nothing to update from the radio end either. Pat said they'd probably wait several hours before cancelling the game because there is expected to be a large crowd and because they wouldn't want a doubleheader on get away day.

Who?

Does that count as a major league park for that "record"? It was at Disney World right?

Sosa is one of the really feel-good stories for the HGH industry this season.

Considering the whole Orlando/WWS complex idea is turing out to be a very forgettable failure for the DRays, is really quite comical that Sammy has now locked the experiment into the record books.

It's amazing, distance does make the heart grow fonder. I never liked him as a Cub, but I've actually starting pulling for him this year. Go Sammy. Baseball been vely vely good to you; you been vely vely good to baseball.

BWAHAHAHAHAHAAH!!! Jerome Williams went back to the DL with a shoulder problem right after coming off it for an ankle injury. His replacement in the rotation: Micah Bowie!!!

Did Sammy homer in the Tokyo Dome when they played there? Just trying to think of anything similar to this one that wasn't in a normal MLB park.

doubtful, it was in April and he didn't hit homers in April. :) philly game started and cole hamels promptly struck out the first 3 batters.

and no he didn't, Grace and Andrews homered in the first game off Mets relievers. None in the 2nd game for any Cubbies.

I have not found myself pulling for him. It's not strange. You can't call Bonds' assault on Aaron's record a fraud and then root for Sosa.

Bonds is a jdouchebag. and a jerk. Sammy is only a douchebag. Plus, Sammy's vely vely big muscles are not proof enough of guilt. He's also not chasing a 'sacred' *cough, bullshit, cough* record like Bonds is.

Nope. If he breaks what's-his-name's record then, well...I won't really care that much, I guess. But he's still a jerk. I hear he hates puppies. And gypsies. And Scandinavians, strangely enough.

"Go Sammy. Baseball been vely vely good to you; you been vely vely good to baseball." Are you mocking Sammy's English? Do you know how hard it is to learn a second language when your mother tongue is a Romance language? ...just kidding.

I can't believe some people on here are pulling for Sammy, but they aren't pulling for Bonds. I hate both of them, but I'm just saying that's a little bit of homer-ism if you ask me. They are both selfish jerks, who are/were juice-ified, and who aren't half of the hitters that Banks, Mays, and Aaron were.

I'm pretty sure Sosa was on something, but there's still a difference between him and Bonds. Bonds actually tested positive, Sosa never did. Also, Bonds is a huge dickface who cheats on his taxes, leaves his friend/trainer to rot in prison, and cheats on his wife.

word from Mets radio was the tarp was off and it stopped raining, no time announced as far as I know.

Bonds never tested positive....he said he mistakenly took the clear. Sosa, he might have never tested positive either, but he happened to remarkably suck at the time testing became passed by the Union, and magically came back...he must have been spending that time learning english. Sosa is just as dirty as Bonds is...they are peas in a pod.

Sammy did take something that made him forget how to speak English one afternoon in Washington D.C. Mark McGwire took a similar drug that day that made it impossible for him to dwell on the past - only to look to the future.

Brewers are not just looking awful at the plate, they made 2 errors back to back in the bottom of the 6th....they somehow made it out of the inning without giving up a run even though the Phils loaded the bases.

Matthew Broderick told a funny story on Letterman one night about Sammy meeting him at Shea Stadium and offering him the opportunity to come party with him and a group of rather loose looking women seated nearby. I guess because Sammy's such a great guy we can assume the group was made up of his wife and her girlfriends. Broderick said it was the most bizarre first meeting of a famous person he'd ever had.

What's wrong with homerism? Barry's a douchebag and I won't cheer for him. Juicing is only a part of that. Sammy was a flawed individual too but he was one of us, so I'm pulling for him.

How can you call it homerism? In my original comment, I said that I never liked him when he was a Cub, but I find myself rooting for him in spite of myself. That's not homerism, that's anti-homerism...bizarro homerism, if you will. Yes, Carlos, I'm making fun of Sammy's pronunciation...but mainly I was just making fun of his whole "baseball/I have been very good for me/baseball" schtick. I know you were responding in jest, but I wouldn't want to come off as insensitive, regardless. I wasn't intending to disparage Latin American's, though...just Sammy personally (that's how I remember HIM saying it). Moreover, I DO know how hard it is to speak any langauge as a second language (I work part-time in a Thai restuarant - long story), which is why I generally stick to the study of dead languages...no one knows if you speak it poorly. What was I talking about? Oh, yeah Sammy. He's silly. His Sammy-ness somehow just doesn't annoy me as much now that he's not on MY team. God love him...it's hard for everyone else to.

Homerism? Barry Bonds is a fucking asshole and everyone hates him. Sosa loves the fans and is a great guy. Oh, and he never admitted to taking steriods like Bonds did. And yes Bonds ADMITTED to taking them. Sosa's name has nevere been linked in any investigation. Not Balco, not Canseco and not Grimsley nothing nada zip.

doh.

and yet another 2 out complete loss of composure for a cubs pitcher

I guess Cub hitters figured they'd take the rest of the series off after scoring 10 last night. Another mediocre pitcher looking like a Cy Young candidate.

what a terrible performance by this team thus far, you can tell they dont care if they win or lose

its a cubs medical staff/hendry/US govt. coverup. he's got boneitis.

Chad...Sosa loves the fans? Sosa loves fan appreciation weekend until the second inning Sunday. Please! Sosa loves Sosa and attention being paid to Sosa

is it really important what the ailment is as long as it's keeping the player off the field? i hope that's not the case, but it might be worth the asking...

Sosa's a great guy? What are you, twelve? You don't know anything about Sammy Sosa. If the Matthew Broderick story I mentioned above is any indication, he's no doubt just another selfish asshole.

you can tell they dont care if they win or lose You have to be kidding me. Do you really believe this?

Tonight’s game postponed. Split games on Saturday.

cubs getting crazy good at not having player moves leak.

taillon we 100% know is pitching tonight.  who he's replacing and any additional moves are unknown as far as i can tell.

p.wisdom was not in today's lineup in iowa (rained out) and he was removed from the game last night mid-game, but not for injury.  good bet he's with the team in the bigs, too.

A good rule of thumb is that if you trade a near-ready high ceiling prospect, you should get at least two far-away high ceiling prospects in return.  Like all rules-of-thumb, it depends upon the specific circumstances, but certainly, we weren't going to get Busch for either prospect alone.

  • Sonicwind75 (view)

Right on schedule, just read an article in Baseball America entitled "10 MLB Prospects Outside The Top 100 Who Have Our Attention".  Zyhir Hope was one of the prospects featured. It stated that he's "one of the biggest arrow-up sleeper prospects in the lower levels right now."

Not sharing to be negative about the trade, getting a top 100 prospect who is MLB ready should carry a heavy prospect cost.  But man, Dodger sure are good at identifying and developing young talent. Andrew Friedman seems to have successfully merged Ray's development with Yankees financial might to create a juggernaut of an organization.

I suspect Brown will spend some time in the bullpen due to inning restrictions.  Pitched only 93 innings last year and career high is 104 innings in 2022.  I would expect them to be cautious with a young player with his injury history.

I wanted Almonte gone last week, but that was before Merryweather went down and Little got demoted. Almonte in his last 5 appearances has gone 4.1 IP with no ER or Runs. NO hits, 3 BBs and 8 SO. He did hit 96 with his 2S FB in AZ on Tues.
I don't see Jed waiving him when we have injuries all over and guys with options that can be sent down.
I probably won't like the move Jed makes, but he can't play the "let's hope no one wants his 1.7mil remaining deal and we can hide him in Iowa" card.
That's why I think the current Bullpen stays as is and Wicks goes to Iowa.
I don't like that, but that's the fix I see.
    We'll find out soon enough!!!

Teheran minor league deal is done, per MLB.

  • TarzanJoeWallis (view)

Based on Phil’s sound analysis it sounds like a no brainer for Almonte to be placed on waivers as today’s roster move. We shall see.

  • Arizona Phil (view)

I suspect Counsell/Hottovy will use the piggy-back extensively, with Taillon and Hendricks pitching as the "pig" (and with a very short leash) and some combo of Wicks, Brown, and Wesneski (whichever two do not start) as the "backers."

Keep in mind that Keegan Thompson has a minor league option available, and if Yency Almonte is not outrighted by 4/26 he cannot be sent to the minors without his consent after that date. Almonte is out of minor league options, so I am talking about him getting outrighted to the minors if he is not claimed off waivers, and if he is claimed off waivers, the Cubs save the pro-rated portion of his $1.9M salary, which helps lower the Cubs 2024 AAV.
