he's not playing the Padres so I'm not worried. :) Plus Michael Barrett isn't catching... I think we'll go about 80-5 from here on out.

Soriano v. Hart ... Advantage Cubs Fontenot v. Hardy ... Advantage Cubs Lee v. Braun ... Advantage Cubs Ramirez v. Fielder ... Advantage Brewers Floyd v. Hall ... Advantage Cubs Derosa v. Estrada ... Advantage Cubs Bowen v. Mench ... Advantage Brewers Pie v. Weeks ... Advantage Brewers Gallardo v. Hill ... Advantage Cubs Bring it!

Uh-oh.....Hill is wild..Floyd can't catch a ball with that piano on his back...

Fontenot v. Hardy … Advantage Cubs Really? I know Fontenot has been hot, but better than Hardy? I don't know about that...

Yeah the Brewers are overrated, and playing overt their heads... Sweep 'em Cubs!!! Huh?

Q: Will history note that the great 6 game win streak and the rising hopes of Cub fans everywhere were dashed in one half of an inning or will this be the sequel to the Monday Night Miracle? A: This is the Cubs, what do you think?

45 pitches in the first...ouch!!! We have been hitting good, so we can come back...But Hill needs to wake up.

FFFFAAAAAACCCCK Well at least I won't have anything to distract me from real WORK this afternoon

7 pitch first inning... geh. This is what gets me frustrated with Cubs teams. They just watched a team string together a huge first inning through patience at the dish. And then they retaliate by swinging at everything. You come back from five runs down with baserunners.

so who kidnapped the rich hill of april 2007? derek, i had the identical reaction as you did in 16.

attaboy, Rich. let's hope Marshall doesn't flop in the first meaningful start of his career as well.

Did Greg Maddux call Mike Maddux and let him know how Rich is tipping his pitches? I can't see the game is Eyre warming up yet? I predict the cubs will score 4 in the bottom of the 8th off Turnbow and then strand the bases loaded with no outs and whimper off in the ninth. At least Pie is looking at a lot of pitches; send him back down to teach him it's OK to swing again.

pie's 4 hits in the last 1/2 month are deceptive. theyve been scrappy, clutch, and gritty...hell, that's as good 40 hits. MVP!!!

i didnt call this game on pie. pretty clear that r.hill and fontenot get blame before anyone else so far...esp. mr. hill. but yeah...pie and his stellar D in CF is hitting like crap. sorry, i didnt do it...pie did.

Hey, Brewers -- we got the message. Wow, talk about getting smacked in the mouth.

actually, this performance from hill can't have caught THAT many by surprise... hell, the celebrated winning streak came against two mediocre-to-poor clubs.

The difference between Pie and CPat is that people who don't know baseball can't see the difference between them. One has genuine baseball instincts, one doesn't. One is teachable, the other isn't. I say send the kind back down and find that short stroke again.

Hmm, maybe all that talk about Felix needing to be more selective was wrong...?

Fat Bruce Froemmmmmmmmminggg...I can't wait till stubby is officially retired. Unfortuntately he is a (marginally) walking advertisement to use an electronic strike zone.

I really like DeRosa’s ABs! He seems to have a clue about making the pitcher work! I'd say the same thing about Bowen, except he seems to have less of a clue of how to hit the ball when it comes time to do that.

poor felix. sounds like he's seen a couple of borderline backwards K's. or just sucks.

i dont understand why you dont let petrick hit and then send him out for one more inning you damn well wuertz will put runners on chances are they will score

It always makes you feel good when a pitcher does not throw one single stirke to the first batter they face...

And now Pie is leading off the next inning. The Brewers are playing right into the Cub's plan...

Argh!!

Pagan, Pie, and Fontenot come through, while Soriano and Lee let us down. C'mon ARAM!

Derrek -- That would have been a really, REALLY good time for your first HR since June 3rd. Or even your first RBI since June 21st. Today is June 29th. Marmol in the 8th inning??

I can't Mench is the difference so far. Prior to today, his last HR came on April 24th.

Funny, my XM showed "End 8th" before Pie even hit the ball..... I've always felt that if you see when a guy has the goods to be a dominant player (Strawberry, Pujols, A-Rod, Griffey, etc..) . Yeah, some guys here or there develop, but they'll never will reach that top status. Based on what I've seen, Pie will NEVER reach the potential the Cubs see in him.

I hate the thought that we lost this game before we got to the plate. Please prove me wrong Cubs.

HOLY SHIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OMFG

I just may get in trouble, but I couldn't help it. Hughes yells "There's a drive..." I stand up and screamed "GET OUT!" with my hands in the air and "YEAH!" Everyone in the office looking at me.... My cell phone starts blowing up... Unbelievable....

Great win. Way to battle back from coughing up the 5-spot early. Ask any manager: last ups are huge.

Alright!!! Keep going Cubs, can't wait to go home tonight and see hi-lights!!! CUBS WIN!!!!!!

These aren't the Cubs, are they? Sure don't look like 'em. Round of applause for the bullpen pitching a scoreless 8 innings. Petrick looks good, Marmol looks great. What a day!

When I was talking to my Dad around the 4th inning, he said my uncle was was so disgusted after the first inning, he turned the game off and headed to his cabin in Wisconsin early....HAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!

Last walkoff was when---? how many this year, relative to halfway point in prior "good" years?

.500 6.5 outta 1st. hopefully 4.5 out by the weekend's end.

"A-Gonz provided many walk offs back in 2K3" I must have erased those from my memories when he botched that double play ball.

I hate not having a local radio show to listen to (although I heard the Score is all Sox station now except for Murph). I hate that XM cuts the post game out. I hate that I'm at work and can't watch CSN right now. I hate that I have NO ONE to talk in the office right now.

Moises's was with the score tied. Sammy had just tied it. Does anyone remember a walkoff homer with the Cubs behind?

Vegas Brian- Boers and Bernstein very much support the Cubs. Boers actually picked Cubs to go to World Series.

45. Rynox — June 29, 2007 @ 2:13 pm Comeback coming up, stay tuned… ------------------------ Called it.

I said in post #9 "Q: Will history note that the great 6 game win streak and the rising hopes of Cub fans everywhere were dashed in one half of an inning or will this be the sequel to the Monday Night Miracle? A: This is the Cubs, what do you think? " I don't know about you, but I for sure thought that this would be the sequel to the Monday Night Miracle.

I don’t know about you, but I for sure thought that this would be the sequel to the Monday Night Miracle. -------------------------- I sure didn't. I'm not accustomed to this whole optimism thing yet. Getting there though!

Hard to tell with a post, but I was being a little tongue-in-cheek Rich. I was with you.

masterboney is a luxury on a team that has multiple, capable options for 2nd, SS, and 3rd without him around.  i don't hate the guy, but if madrigal is sticking around then masterboney is expendable.

I THINK I agree with that decision. They committed to Wicks as a starter and, while he hasn’t been stellar I don’t think he’s been bad enough to undo that commitment.

That said, Wesneski’s performance last night dictates he be the next righty up.

Quite the dilemma. They have many good options, particularly in relief, but not many great ones. And complicating the situation is that the pitchers being paid the most are by and large performing the worst - or in Taillon’s case, at least to this point, not at all.

    Wesneski and Mastrobuoni to Iowa

    Taillon and Wisdom up

Wesneski can't pitch for a couple of days after the 4 IP from last night. But Jed picked Wicks over Wesneski.

    booooooooooo

also, wisdom and taillon are both in chicago.

Tonight’s game postponed. Split games on Saturday.

cubs getting crazy good at not having player moves leak.

taillon we 100% know is pitching tonight.  who he's replacing and any additional moves are unknown as far as i can tell.

p.wisdom was not in today's lineup in iowa (rained out) and he was removed from the game last night mid-game, but not for injury.  good bet he's with the team in the bigs, too.

A good rule of thumb is that if you trade a near-ready high ceiling prospect, you should get at least two far-away high ceiling prospects in return.  Like all rules-of-thumb, it depends upon the specific circumstances, but certainly, we weren't going to get Busch for either prospect alone.

Right on schedule, just read an article in Baseball America entitled "10 MLB Prospects Outside The Top 100 Who Have Our Attention".  Zyhir Hope was one of the prospects featured. It stated that he's "one of the biggest arrow-up sleeper prospects in the lower levels right now."

Not sharing to be negative about the trade, getting a top 100 prospect who is MLB ready should carry a heavy prospect cost.  But man, Dodger sure are good at identifying and developing young talent. Andrew Friedman seems to have successfully merged Ray's development with Yankees financial might to create a juggernaut of an organization.

I suspect Brown will spend some time in the bullpen due to inning restrictions.  Pitched only 93 innings last year and career high is 104 innings in 2022.  I would expect them to be cautious with a young player with his injury history.

I wanted Almonte gone last week, but that was before Merryweather went down and Little got demoted. Almonte in his last 5 appearances has gone 4.1 IP with no ER or Runs. NO hits, 3 BBs and 8 SO. He did hit 96 with his 2S FB in AZ on Tues.
I don't see Jed waiving him when we have injuries all over and guys with options that can be sent down.
I probably won't like the move Jed makes, but he can't play the "let's hope no one wants his 1.7mil remaining deal and we can hide him in Iowa" card.
That's why I think the current Bullpen stays as is and Wicks goes to Iowa.
I don't like that, but that's the fix I see.
    We'll find out soon enough!!!
